Soldier Boy came back to a world he doesn’t know, a son he didn’t know about, a grandson, and people who didn’t remember him. He didn’t know how to be in our time, but he would’ve learned, given time. Hope he comes back!
I feel bad for soldier boy, diminished and put down by his father, betrayed by his team, betrayed by vought, tortured and kept in cryo using a poinsonous gas, labeled a racist by MM due to an accidental killing, has ptsd without even knowing what it is, confused due to the it being the future, betrayed by butcher and then lastly put back into a box.
I know right? A lot of people dog on him for being sexist, even though he was born in the early 20th century, and was actually quite tame compared to most others born at the time, and people get upset at him not being able to cope with negative emotions, and being upset when others are vulnerable. This is completely understandable if you factor in the societal conditioning that was necessary in the 40s though. At the time, they wanted soldiers who wouldn’t break down on the battlefield, and so they trained men to suppress their emotions and channel their rage. Even if Ben didn’t fight in the war, he was still there at the time of the cultural conditioning, so he thinks in order to be a man, a person has to never be vulnerable. His PTSD mixed with his powers shows this well, as the only time he explodes is when he’s experiencing PTSD, or on the verge of tears in the case of Crimson Countess. He can’t cope, so he literally explodes.
“I’m not… going back… in that… FUCKING BOX!”
That really resonated with me, as it gives us a window into Ben’s inner struggle, (he keeps all of his emotions in a metaphorical box), and it’s being personified as him being in cryostasis.
“You wanna know what I do when I’m sad, or scared? Fucking nothing. Cause I’m not a fucking pussy.”
Even though he responds the worst to the feeling of emotions, he’s been told all his life to deny it, and put up a wall.

well it was already said that soldier boy will have a comeback because everyone loved him so we just have to wait to see him again
I like the character. He's the bad guy, but he's also a product of his time period, surroundings, imprisonment, and torture. He was an experiment. Now he's a very angry, bitter, and confused experiment. It seemed like I waited a long time for Soldier Boy and the show didn't disappoint. It's a good character in terms of writing and acting. I wouldn't want him around in the real world, but that's what's good about television. I hope he's in season 4.
I hate that the writers, aka simping Seth Rogan, made MM constantly refer to Soldier Boy as racist. I understand why he hates Soldier Boy for killing his family, but it wasn't a racist attack.
yeah, its like they wanted people to hate him, but he's unironically the best charatcer to date on the show.

when soldier boy told Black Noir that he didn’t want him “Movin on up” that was a reference to a show called the Jefferson’s about black people in the USA movin on up, he attacked Black noir because he’s black that’s why he tells him he’s not shit and he believes that black people are below white people and he needs to put them in their place. He’s not an outright racist he’s more of a know your place racist
In the comics he's beyond racist, Nazi. In the series they left him "just racist" and pedophile. You may not like it, but it's the reality of The Boys, if it wasn't, it wouldn't be so intimate with Stormfront...

I loved this, you captured a lot of the PTSD that Soldier Boy goes through perfectly. Jensen Ackles is so expressive with his facial expression’s, dude doesn’t even have to talk and you understand what he is feeling.

Soldier Boy actually made me care about the show
Soldier Boy was betrayed not only by his original team, Payback, but also by his new team-ish, the Boys. In the end he was the only one that held up his deal out of the Boys. He also had the potential to probably kill everyone in that building if Hugh didn’t turn up the lights. Damn Ryan for sealing Soldier Boys fate when he laser beamed him and inevitably caused Butcher to turn on Soldier Boy.

I'm now impressed with Jensen Ackles. At basically the same time playing Soldier Boy on "The Boys" and the very, very different character of the Texas beefcake acting sheriff on "Big Sky."

He's just so goddamned handsome. I think that he has that halo effect. I couldn't help but like him. I felt sympathy for him. And he's abusive and crass and he has some really outdated ideas, but he's just so fucking likable.

Putting aside everything that Homelander’s done, he’s trying to do better by his son. Abuse in families continues until someone stops it. At least Homelander is trying to break the cycle, and it’s clear he loves his son.
