    Thank you for your perspective about people with a criminal record, Zero. I actually teared up a bit hearing your openness and honesty about giving people with a criminal history a chance to reintegrate into society after serving their time.
    I, myself, have a criminal history. I'm not proud of it, I know people hate me for it, and I'm fully aware people don't want me around out of discomfort. But like DaShizWiz, we recognize our faults and pay our debts to society. Why don't we deserve a chance to prove we can be productive and "normal" members of society? Like you said, if all we get is condemnation and rejection at every turn, what option is left for us but to return to that self-destructive pattern that lead us to offend in the first place? We don't want to be given special treatment, just a chance to be like everyone else.
    So thanks Zero. That is really refreshing and heartwarming to hear that kind of compassion and understanding from you. I, and I'm sure Shiz, really appreciate it.

      Why should the people around you be inclined to believe that you've changed? You have to prove that you're trustworthy again, which may take a very long time, so be patient.

    • @ZeroHero3d
      @ZeroHero3d 5 лет назад +256

      @@soothingseas Because, as Zero also said, we've paid our debt to society. We served the time, our punishment is over, according to rule of law. And by the court's ruling, we are given that opportunity to return to society as we lived before offending. If we were deemed ill fitting to return to society, we would be held in jail for longer, depending on the severity of the crime.
      Criminals already have to live with the personal guilt and public shame of committing a crime, as well as whatever life changing conditions and restrictions given by the justice system. That is our burden to bare, not yours. The least you can do is not give us more hardship by telling us we aren't wanted because of something we did in the past. Especially if we don't show any indication of repeating the offense. Are we not deserving of a second chance? Are we not worthy of the opportunity to prove we are not more a threat than any other random stranger you encounter on a day to day basis? Unless you were directly affected by our crime, you have no right to demand more from us just to make you feel comfortable.
      I know you don't want to hear that, but you aren't owed anything from someone with a criminal past if they have served their time. It's not your place to expect us to be punished further for your sake. I know it's easy to demonize us for what we did, but that doesn't mean you are higher on the social totem pole and get to make the rules we have to adhere to. Just something to think about when you tell those with a criminal history they have to go the extra mile to earn your "trust."

    Worst experience I've had is at Smash n Splash 2019, I was playing in my pools and I went against a Pac Man (I'm a Well known Columbus Ohio Luigi main) during the match Strangers/ his friends were being disrespectful during the match. Pushing my chair tapping me to distract me from the match and chanting with him... at one point one of them pulled out my earbuds during the match to yell "That's right trash you better lose". After this I've taken a step away from competitive due to me feeling like I'm not excepted even though I just wanna experience a game I love with others. In the end I lost the set 2~1... wish I told a TO but I felt like if I did I wouldve been called a cry Baby or something dumb, overall I have social anxiety and feel bad to tell people things for some reason (maybe being too nice). atleast I got to hang out with Elegant for the remaining time. that's my worst smash experience.

    • @jpetrullo6890
      @jpetrullo6890 5 лет назад +28

      Jacabo Blanco yes however the smash scene isn’t big enough so that the players and fans can be completely separate from each other. At a tournament with hundreds of people, or even 1000 total people, the event is small enough so that people can get up close and personally insult you and harass you and you have no locker room or physical barrier separating you from them

    • @jpetrullo6890
      @jpetrullo6890 5 лет назад +23

      Jacabo Blanco I get your point that it’s natural to be booed and cheered against but zero has received legitimate death threats and people coming up to him at tournaments telling him horrible things. Again to reiterate, that there’s no wall separating professionals from the public at these tournaments like there are at large scale sports games and so it’s easier to be harassed

    • @lidofzejar
      @lidofzejar 5 лет назад +15

      Hard to do that venue wise. Doing that could raise prices of the venue, raising the entry fee for getting in, and then its a slope that could potentially, and easily, basically kill a competitive scene all off the fact that competing will cost too much.
      It's the con of Nintendo having no idea what they are doing and Smash players having to be grassroots for their entire life.

    • @Koyuki_Yukihime
      @Koyuki_Yukihime 5 лет назад +8

      yeah FPS and MOBA got quite a tournament , but with that much sponsorship it's to be expected of them tbh.
      The scale of the game too is the important factor for that , it's like compare 10-30 million player base to something like a million
      and we don't even know how many % of those number interested in competitive scene.
      LoL got like 100 million watching the championship. Biggest tournament for smash (ultimate) got like 233K viewership.

    Tweek was right. If you’re gonna have a set that bans coaching, the rules should extend to having none of your friends on stage either. Having a friend come on stage and tell you something like, “you can do it” could be just enough for a player to be in a good mindset to win.

      Moe's i reas what you said, but you don’t have to be 2 inches from the person for then to hear you. It’s basically the same thing in my opinion and even in the stream of that set, that guys girl disappeared after the match started again. You can’t have everyone play on stage, it’s unrealistic and even then audience doesn’t jump onto the stage until after you win or lose. It’s just extremely menial in most cases but I don’t agree with snitching on someone’s game plan. But being “just enough” makes it sound like we should just be quiet

    • @botanicalabe
      @botanicalabe 5 лет назад +9

      XxWeed WarriorxX that’s why I didn’t say cheering should be banned. I directly said someone coming ON STAGE (which should be banned already) and giving encouraging words should be banned. Moe's but in the video it wasn’t even on a stage, it was one of this ghetto half circles that you play in, which is one of the reasons why I agree with you, but she didn’t stay there either. There seems to be a general safety/crowd interference problem. They should mandate raised stages and a large gap between the audience and the stage, with security (even if it's a couple big dudes people will think twice) and provide noise cancelling headphones as a guaranteed option (not required, but available) for competitors. They could also make the first few rows a VIP section for players that have made it into bracket and perhaps a select few who have received clearance directly from the tournament organizers. It is insane to exclude a convicted felon (or any other subjective label) from attending video game tournaments and to ban individual coaches selected by a competitor. Instead, regulate the tournament itself to prevent safety hazards and interference. That way people can compete with a guaranteed level of professionalism and safety. Furthermore, the only way a player or crowd member can be banned and/or kicked from the venue is if they violate and/or continuously violate the established rules as well as the regulations outlined above.

    I remember at Super Smash Con this past Summer I played M2K in pools and before every set he would turn to the crowd and ask them to not make noise. At first I thought it was strange, almost kinda rude, considering it was me playing and then like my 3 friends watching. In my mind I was like "hey, they should be allowed to cheer for me!" But then later on in pools he had a really close set with someone else and a large crowd gathered. He had lost game 1 and game 2 he was down a bit. The crowd was really loud and obnoxious as they do, and M2K turns back after losing a stock and asks them again to be quiet. It lasted like a minute and then they got loud again. He ended up winning the set, but that whole experience really made me understand and empathize why he asks everyone to be quiet during his set. Its not for the 3 friends, its for the loud crowd being asses 2 feet behind his head

Would Leffen have called for a rematch if he'd been the one to win first time around, despite knowing about the issue? It really is down to the tournament organisers for situations like that. They need to be thorough in their preparations. They're also key for avoiding situations involving the crowd. If they keep the audience in check, it should prevent rematches that leave a sour taste, like the set with Marrs.

    I have to agree with the part of the video of marss vs wishes, crowd members can really play a big part in matches, by chanting or rooting for one player in a 1v1 can really affect the other player which does make them play horrible because they loose focus, really hoping future players including myself won't have to deal with this because it's honestly a poor example of how the community can act at tourneys

    I dont know...I kind of like it when people doubt me and aren't on my side during a match. It feels good for me to win just to prove people wrong about me not being able to do it. It makes me feel good :)

      And that is part of competition. In every sport in the world.
      That guy is a turd for that.

      I generally feel the same, but if I place myself in the situations of Zero and also a dominant example, HBOX, I can see why it can become overwhelming and depressing. I think the biggest factor isn't that people say or believe you're shit, but the fact that they don't want you to win really bitters the sweet taste of victory, especially over longer periods of time.

      I think it helps to have a sense of humor or be crazy, so there are not-insignificant cliques that want you to win.
      Like say, Sonicfox from NRS community. SF is so dominant yet there's people who still want SF to win because of craziness and antics. Plus being a furry means at least THEY'RE on that corner...

      I just want to have fun. The key to remember is that everywhere you go. there will be assholes and haters cheering against you and everything you stand for. I just turn their ignorance into humor. that's all.

      That's the thing tho, yea it feels good to win but it's horrible to play during and just as bad losing

    Today, I learned that not even Melee is good enough for Melee players.

    First tournament I was in was Ridley(me) vs. Captain Falcon.
    A wee bit hard to focus when the only thing the crowd is yelling is "Falcon punch him!" "Knee of Justice!"
    I ended up winning(Skewer ftw) and the guy was really chill, but it wasn't easy when you knew nobody in the audience was hoping you'd win

    People who think they can touch anyone they want because “hYpE” are the worst kind of people. It’s harassment
    I hated that group of guys who just crowded around that player because he won, you can even tell how uncomfortable Zero was. He was just getting jostled around because a bunch of children can’t control themselves

    If you ask me, the TO's fucked up on the first one. If you only find out until after the players already left the stage, that's it. There's nothing you can do about it, you can't just force the players to come back on stage, the ruling will have to stand. Because what happens when you need to replay the match, and the player has already left the venue?
