    Trigger warning (SH)
I've been having more and more negative thoughts this year and a lot are about self harm. I ended up getting a tattoo on the inner mart of my left arm (and plan on getting a matching one on my right arm) just to prevent myself from following through with SH. "I cant cut my wrist or it will ruin my tattoo". It sounds a nit silly but it's working! whenever I look at my arm my negative though get pushed back and I smile because i genuinely love how my tattoo looks.

Wow, the "edema braille" thing happened to me a few years ago, but NOT b/c I was pregnant. Just prior to knee replacement surgery and right after surgery, I suffered from bad edema due to heaing, inactivity, and too much salt. I had never realized WHY it happened until now. But since I took steps to get healthier, this no longer happens. (Though lower leg tattoos are particularly likely to swell and heal slowly and angrily on me, which might also be caused by swelling.....and age. I am 57.)

I just wanna point out that indigenous people have created tattoos in spaces that aren't shops or even in some instances in nature. I think we often want to connect mind body and soul to the earth and thats one way. Ive had this vision years before i began to tattoo to create tattoos at the base of a swiss mountain with flowers growing everywhere! Haven’t made it a reality yet but I will try haha. I did tattoo my best friends in nature once and it was such a blessed time I will never forget.

It’s so interesting seeing how different people’s pain tolerance is. I’ve been terrified about getting certain parts of my body tattooed due to people (even some of my tattoo artists!) getting into my head, but when the time came to get it done, I ended up being completely fine😂 of the 40 something tattoos I do have, only one was ever unbearable. I mean we’re talking about shaking, gritted teeth, thinking about punching my artist😅 others were more “not fun, but not the worst, I guess?” I have a stupidly high pain tolerance but I can’t sit for too long which sucks.

I have Menorrhagia, so my cramps dont only bring me to the brink of passing out, in such bad pain that the ER staff thought my appendix had burst, but they last for about two weeks sometimes. I have to be on BC, and even then they can hurt so bad. But not as bad as I'm used to. My first tattoo was a wrist tattoo, I felt nothing. It was cool. Got two collarbone tattoos after that, felt nothing. Working on a hip tattoo, only places that hurt was closer to the inner thigh, and where it goes up on my waist. Other than that it's been chill.
You can conquer the world if your period pains hurt more than whatever it is you're going through. Because at least you know that it could be worse, and you can survive this pain because you've survived worse.

@@ccherry.berryy So when you have a panic attack it makes you lose sense of reality. What you need to be able to c come back is grounding things.

Giiiiiirl! That period cramps vs tattoo one. My artist (female) recommends numbing cream, but the first time I went I was so nervous cause I'd heard stories about people passing out, puking, losing control of their bowels, etc. Then she did my shoulder blade piece and I was like... it tickled? And at the worst felt like some dental work? Like pressure but not "oh I'm dying!" Anyway. Yes, I've had cramps so much worse than my tattoos. The worst part of tattoos is the itching

The comments on the panic attack video are so sad 😢 I’ve got a tattoo on my arm that says “peace will win, fear will lose” (from Car Radio by 21p) and it’s 100% helped me pull myself out of panic attacks before. Sometimes looking at your arm/wrist is literally the only thing you can do when you’re in that state of mind.
Also OMG the very very last one you showed and said “what is THAT” is a tattoo that I see ALL. THE. TIME. because it’s a hometown tattoo for where I’m from 😂 it’s the St. Louis arch and StL logo! It’s a pretty overdone design around here, which is why she probably had it in that video lol

I’ve never been pregnant, but I do have a broken spine that caused nerve damage to my legs and often will cause my limbs to fill with fluid at random times. I have a large red/orange Great Pacific octopus tattoo wrapped around most of my left lower leg, and it will react the same way the pregnant woman described!
My other tattoos are black and gray so the first time all the red in my octopus suddenly puffed up and got ridiculously itchy I freaked the fuck out and thought I had somehow gotten an infection or become allergic to the red ink even though it was over a year old. It was absolutely WILD to see it suddenly be raised but only in the red areas. I took pictures and sent it to my artist and thankfully he knew what was happening and explained that edema can have that effect especially on red ink!
It still happens but thankfully it seems my body has almost gotten used to it because over time it’s gradually gotten more subdued. The first time was definitely the worst, and a good lotion has helped big time! I used the same lotion I use to heal fresh tattoos and it seems to work better on the extra inflammation than my standard healed lotion.

You keep saying that your pain tolerance has taken a nose dive, but I feel like a lot of the spaces you have left/have gotten tattooed in the last few years are some of the absolute most painful tattoo spots. Maybe it isn't a Lauren's pain tolerance problem, but a Lauren has nowhere "easy" left problem.
PS - my multi-hour rib and sternum pieces were not as bad as my period. Uterus havers are some tough cookies.

@Rachel Forshee I've never found the environment to be so loud that you couldn't hear people? In the tattoo parlors I've been to you could still hear people like 5m away. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole "every man" thing was exaggerated for dramatic effect, but having some react that way wouldn't surprise me

I only had 2 tattoos during my 3 full term pregnancies but never experienced any issues thankfully.

The raised itchy tattoos when Pregnant, yes its definitely a thing, and it doesn’t only happen with the color ones that she mentioned depending on the formula of the black ink used black ink gets the same way I experienced this when I was pregnant with my son and could not for the life of me figure out what was going on but now 6years after having him in my current pregnancy I am experiencing it again , which I will be honest i typically have very sensitive skin so that may also be a factor to why it happens to me but yeah none the less it sucks greatly 😅 my advice is don’t scratch no matter what you do avoid the itch definitely moisturize your tattoos I go for non scented hypoallergenic products when i chose to use lotions cause sometimes for me the itch is so bad that the products feel like they are burning my skin when they are scented 😅😅 and I don’t believe this is a every pregnant woman with tattoos type situation but I do believe the more tattoos you have the likely this is to occur so please be aware of it and from my experience it does go away after you’ve had the baby but I’m no expert

Omg, my tattoos will get raised especially in my red ink just randomly, no pregnancy involved. I never knew that happened to anyone else! It always calms down and mine doesn’t itch or anything, just braille skin like she said 🤯

It's so strange about the whole swelling of the tattoo thing when pregnant because I've never been pregnant but I have experienced the same thing! Occasionally my tattoos raise and it is like feeling brail. I have very heavy line work tattoos. I wonder if it's a hormone thing.
Note to self: make a log when it happens
Edit: I'd do a whole Body Tattoo over period pains any day!

My tattoos raise all the time, even ones I’ve had for over 10 years and I’ve never been pregnant. Idk I don’t think it’s that rare

I had a tattoo done in May 2021 and fell pregnant in the June. Every bit of white ink scarred and raised and its never gone down since, I can literally feel every bit of white in my tattoo, so strange
