  • We're continuing the expansion of the Massachusetts county of Easthaven, starting an all-new realistic, historical port city on a major island next to Chowder Bay! We implement a basic starting layout for the port, major industries, an old mixed-use downtown, a hillside row-house district, low-density residential suburbs, and train freight line infrastructure. Hope you enjoy!

@@dhruvmendpara4857 IDK, I like building motorways less compliant with US-style regulations. I'm inspired by some older freeways, like the Sydney-newcastle freeway's oldest section, which have windy steep sections. Forcing people to comply with the 6%-10% standard would kill those sorta builds which might approach maybe 12%?

    Renaming Barlow Springs.
A Real Estate Developer who was born and raised in Mission Hill Boston wants to retire with one last residential development project. A life time of living in single row homes has brought inspiration to his new neighborhood plan. After finding the perfect hillside in a new up and coming town in East Haven County, he closes on the land and begins to develop.
Being a life long Mission Hill resident he has become a Boston Red Sox fanatic and is also a season ticket holder at Fenway Park. This sparks an idea for a name! Fenway Hill. suggestions for names and history: downtown can be named Ventura Bay- named in 1912 after the original name Ventura. founded in 1790 as a small trading post (industrial area). Eventually the small trading post expanded to become Ventura Bay, the small downtown city. during the late 1800s, the industrial area expanded and new housing was needed to meet the worker demand. developer Joseph Cambridge developed Cambridge Pass in 1871 (row housing development) to sustain the worker demand. this is all my brain can make, so if you want to use it that’s great but if not consider it

I was looking around the names of towns/cities in Massachusetts and found a a city called Plymouth which is a coastal city on the southeastern coast of the UK, and scouting the area I found a massive headland which your city also has called Rame, on this headland there is a church called St.Germanus Rame church which I has a graveyard at the back too and you can use the cemetery to make it look like a old historical heritage site or to make it unique to your city it can also have a castle if or when you unlock that. 😊

As someone from Plymouth (UK), this is such a great idea to incorporate a bit of history from my real life city and somewhat unknown part of the country!
Fun fact, the first colony in the US was the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts, as the first settlers sailed from Plymouth UK aboard the Mayflower. Would love to see this colonial history and English inspired place-names incorporated into the build!

Tbh this setting would fit better as an analogue the Maine coast. Lots of islands, more hills, towns with ports. Cape cod is all beach towns, very spread out, totally flat. Everything on the cape is 30 mins away it feels like. There is not a lot of industry there either. The biggest town is Hyannis, which is smaller than this city is already.

28 cuts through quite a few hillsides, and they're often left as cliffs, especially if only on one side. One of my favourite views when I get to be a passenger in the winter, is looking at all the runoff making icy cliffs, and the blue shading to blue.

Suggestion for name: I think the massachusetts city of New Bedford would be perfect to make this new city. New Bedford is in the area you’re modeling after. It has a rich history in whaling which made it the richest city in the world at one point. New Bedford also has had a textile factor and railway in its history; having its own time zone before universal time was established. It’s a very cool city and the downtown resembles what you have already. I think New Bedford is a perfect fit.

One small point of realism: the new interchange added to rt 28 at the beginning of the video is way too close to the others and would not have been allowed. That’s three interchanges in about 1 km! (I’d argue it’s unnecessary as well😊)

First as others have stated it doesn’t make sense to have huge mountains on the other islands as this part of MA is not mountainous at all. Second I think the new downtown area should be named after one of the countless Native American town names in costal MA (for example: Acushnet, Cohasset, Hyannis, Mashpee, Mattapan, Merrimac, Pocasset, Sagamore, Saugus and soso many more!!) Hey, loving the videos! If I might make a suggestion, as someone who's from Massachusetts, I'd call the main street through Chowder Bay running parallel to 28 (Here we just call state routes by their number, such as 28, 88, 195, etc, unless it's a single digit number in which case it's Route 6 for example) Broadway, as that was probably the original alignment of 28 before it got upgraded to a grade separated highway, and 28 carries the name "Broadway" through several towns in Massachusetts along its route.

  • @mitsubisci
    @mitsubisci 5 месяцев назад

Because the branch of the highway going through Easthaven would be a spur, naming convention in Massachusetts would have it named 28A, like how 6A is a smaller local road compared to US-6 running parallel to 28 on Cape Cod.

always enjoying your content, good mix of speed builds and very informative building commentary, so its good to learn some best practices and mod usage from you, even though car-centric cities arent really my cup of tea. I thought this was the first episode of this city, so i havent seen it yet and i am not sure but i think you planted lots of trees with anarchy on and in some places, it actually looks a bit too dense for me now, for example where you did the first highway connection from the bridge.
Watching the video while writing this comment, i think what makes it look a bit unnatural to me might be the fact that its still all grass below it but with such a dense canopy, i wouldnt expect any of it to grow there due to lack of sunlight and rather expect some brown-greenish undergrowth.
Gonna check tonight, if making the surface below such a dense anarchy forest actually looks better.
one tip for a bit more realism when designing port areas is to check the water current and from where the water actually flows to actually determine where and into what direction a long mole or quay leading into the sea should be placed.

To fit with the New England style, the city could be renamed to something from the south of England. I think something from Devon like "Seaton" would feel right. Like with a lot of settlements in New England and in other British colonies, towns were often named after the hometown of an important settler. The real life Seaton is just around the corner from Lyme Regis, and is a historic fishing village turned into a holiday destination.

super cool series, especially since i grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts. The islands makes it feel like the bay in Rhode Island.
Something to think about with MA highways is they will actually have those steep cliffs on either side cause they usually blast to put them in right through the hilly areas, and then when they go through the cities they usually set the highways down so the surface roads can overpass above it. Like Route 95 in Providence, Rhode Island. Over even Tunnels like the Big Dig in Boston.
The series is great, cant wait to see more

Hey Infra, maybe you want to get the Legacy Flavour mod to get rid of the white flashbang on every info screen? In your zoning montage I noticed you constantly closing the info panel to get rid of the white overlay while switching between zoning types. I also really like it because you can the opacity of zoned and unzoned tiles and it makes it easier to see what's going on under all those zones. Idk, maybe you already know about it and have a reason to not use it but I figured I mentioned it just in case you may find it useful :)

Could name the port side Longshore(as the beach was longer than the downtown area), so it'd be Port Longshore. English settlers weren't renowned for their creativity after all.
By extension, I was thinking of naming the shorter bay area where downtown is as Shortshore, but since that's a mouthful it could have been corrupted over time to something like Short's Shore or Short's Beach, with people thinking that it was named after a guy whose last name was Short. I love the kind of false etymology some place names get over time.

A name and history I have for the town is Old Warriors (short for the Old Warriors of Dunbar). In the English civil war, the Scot’s were defeated and the battle of Dunbar, with many of their warriors being sent to the Massachusetts Bay and made to work as indentured Servant’s. They sided and with the Americans in the revolutionary war and and kept there minority heritage in the area. Every Year, the people of old warriors hold a day of remembrance of the Scot’s who were forced from there homes and taken to the formally named New Coast colony, later being renamed old Warrior by the Grandson of one of the army commanders who fought for the Scot’s in the ECW. In the town centre, there is a statue of him, and and Englishman torturing him (fictional part there)

Ok so I know you're doing an island and not the actual cape but here's an interesting fact about cape infrastructure. There are three main roads 28, 6, and 6a. For most of the cape these three highways run parallel.( Except in Bourne and falmouth. ) where they run parallel the three routes are connected by 3 numbered routes. 130 , 128 and such. So yea never get lost on cape again.
