      Pro tip: If someone shoots at you, throw a gun at the bullet while it's mid-flight. This will allow you to neutralize it.

    • @iamzeusv2
      @iamzeusv2 9 лет назад +2

      Nate Meyer For anything you want to throw, it needs to be soft so it doesn't break which makes it go dull faster. A better steel won't change much. But for daily use knives, there are a TON of different steels you can use. The hardest steel so far is zdp 189. There's also S30V, 154CM, VG10 and elmax that are pretty good in my experience. Very hard and nearly rust proof. Carbon steel is also really good for durability and hard use but they need alot more maintenance to prevent rust.

    • @FadingFires
      @FadingFires 4 года назад

      Not to be a smartass or make light of the self-inflicted injury you sustained, but the potential for getting cut during practice shouldn’t be that surprising/something which “slips the mind”. Wear gloves. Pay attention to where you place your fingers. I made a habit of not making a full grasp on any metallic edge a long time ago (flat finger tips only) when I do not have gloves for that very reason. The surface area for all points of contact should be no more than the minimum amount necessary to exert control and apply technique. You should be able to immediately move your hand freely in the opposite direction of the blade upon release without it affecting the rotation or trajectory of your throw when done correctly. Hindsight is 20/20 but your situation wasn’t really his fault at all. Blades = potential for injury is something most people learn quickly and early on as children. Honestly, people starting out should probably opt for tomahawks designed with throwing in mind, or which satisfy the criteria for being suitable for throwing before moving on to knife blade throws.

    I throw the SOG tomahawk with the reinforced nylon handle. I like that one better because yeah, it's more likely to break the handle, but on a full tang axe, if you DO manage to break the handle, you have to replace the whole axe instead of just the handle.

    I kinda like this vid though I don't like the suggestion to step closer or back to get the stick. Should practice landing it on target by where it's held in as 1 of your suggestions, the trick is to stick the blade regardless the distance & being able to compensate the spin accordingly.

    • @GY6vids
      @GY6vids  8 лет назад +8

      ....as I stated in the video, you can step forward or backward for what you need to add to rotation....but also stated that you can practice moving your grip as well....but when you're filming and time is money...the step method is fast and easy!

    Another good tip if you're throwing and you're not in the "sweetspot" is use your thumb to slow the rotation of the blade by letting it drag more or less down the flat of the blade as it leaves your hand upon release.

    • @xReapzzy
      @xReapzzy 9 лет назад +1

      Om Patel 1. Video Games are Full Of Crap, and 2. It doesn't matter the size of the knife/tomahawk/axe, All that Matters is How Sharp The Blade is, it could be a tiny little pocket knife the size of the your index finger that the boyscouts carry for example, but if the blade is sharp enough it can do some serious damage.

    • @joshfaulkner2372
      @joshfaulkner2372 9 лет назад

      Fade if it is blunt it will do more damage as it does not make a clean cut. This is why during WW 1 Australian bayonets were blunt. A sharp knife is good if you want it to stick in and do some damage to the sub dermis and artiries.

    • @xReapzzy
      @xReapzzy 9 лет назад

      James Bond didnt know james bond was an actual real person -_- jk and still, long as the blade is sharp enough, doesnt matter if it goes in deep and does damage to arteries and sub dermis, they're probably gonna bleed out soon after..

    I think its really cool that your an ambidextrous shooter, but i thought i heard you say in a video a while back that you were dominant left handed. However your throwing all the blades right handed... dont get me wrong, it's awesome reguardless, but can you also throw blades with your left hand?? Sounds incredibly difficult to me lol

    • @caligula9085
      @caligula9085 9 лет назад

      If he is left handed and ambidextrous he can throw with both hands but left hand will be stronger with more rotation on his left as it is dominant

      +dedpul I agree with you, I still think thats awesome lol.Hell, i cant throw a blade that good with one hand much less too!!! hahaha

    Hey Andrew, really appreciate the informative video! This has been something I've wanted to get into for a long time now and now with your advice I'm hoping to do so. Also, If it's possible, I really think a lot of people would appreciate a video where you review your favorite throwing knives and brands in detail. Look forward to seeing more great videos soon! Thanks!

    Thank you , I am from iran
    it was the most scientific training I have seen so far , as adjusting the gripping is more important than adjusting the distance in combat throwing since there is not enough time....
    thank you, well done job.

  • @TheMasterPhil
    @TheMasterPhil 9 лет назад

    How do you attain accuracy at different distances? It seems that I can only get good sticks at specific distances with particular throwing objects. Is this normal and I simply have to know my distance prior to throwing?

    I want, no, NEED that axe holster! Please share the link where I can find one. Mine only connects to my belt and is a struggle to get unsnapped and out of the sheath quickly and quietly. Your prey is going to sense you and dart off before you can get it out. It's fine for hitting non moving wooden targets, horrible for hunting or self defense! Thanks, appreciate you, also, as a local Texan (Houston) I laughed so hard at the heat comments, the world just doesn't understand the difference between Texas/Louisiana/Florida heat and everywhere else until you have experienced it. Lol the struggle is real!

    You don't have to flip your wrist for knife throwing. You don't want too much rotation for knife throw. Same way you throw axe i am throwing a knife. But i have learned from Adam Celadin and he have a little different technique than you. I guess everyone have his own technique. Btw great video :)

  • @getsideways7257

    What surprises me is that you prefer throwing knives by the handle (especially noticeable in your next video). I never even practiced that kind of throw myself, because I'm sure it allows you to transfer much less kinetic energy into the target, and you want the opposite. Just think of it. If you have an object with a large mass attached to one side, you want to throw it by the opposite end to leverage the sling effect. Somebody else here jokingly mentioned screwdrivers, but they seem to be the perfect example. Not even sure if one can be thrown and stick to anything by the grip, but when you throw it by the shank end, it can be deadly.

    Started using this technique yesterday and I'm already sticking the target like 60% with cheap farberware steak knives

    It takes less than 20 seconds to put a $10.00 handle on a Cold Steel tomahawk. Tomahawks are better because the handles can come loose and not break. Breaking a handle on an axe needs lots of attention to replace. Tomahawks rule!
