      We cant even compare the old issued Ka-bar with that new mushy heat treatment they're making today. As for the throwing the best half spin thrower is a Cold steel Jack dagger.Heavy,sharp tip and even the blade can be sharpened to hair shaving sharp level.

    • @meregamerz8587
      @meregamerz8587 5 лет назад +15

      Maybe. I’ve never thought of that. If you throw the gel at the knife, one of two things can happen. The knife will penetrate straight through the gel, or the gel will completely miss from horrible accuracy, yet again it will more than likely not do nothing since you are throwing and object with more mass at an object with way less mass.

  • @davidwoods7996
    @davidwoods7996 7 лет назад +3045

    The only problem with this is that he is doing a spin throw, this type of throw is entirely unrealistic in a combat situation because you can only stick the knife at certain distances. A no-spin throw would be much better. To be fair he is REALLY good at the spin throw.

    • @GY6vids
      @GY6vids  7 лет назад +834

      No spin throwing has hardly any power behind it, and quickly looses accuracy past 10feet. other than soft woods most "No Spin" throws won't stick into objects...it is very hard to keep any type of speed or power behind no spin throwing. The max distance I'm at in this video is 30feet, and I would LOVE to see any "No Spin" thrower try to even have 1/4 the power of these impacts.
      Lets just all be honest, THROWING your primary blade is LAST RESORT, I'd much rather run up on the target and go to work with it in my hands.

    • @davidwoods7996
      @davidwoods7996 7 лет назад +182

      I agree! The spin actually adds force that causes a deeper penetration and a harder blow, but it's also less likely that you'll stick it in someone. And of course throwing your primary blade is a last resort! But you can have multiple knives, and sticking a knife in someone is a pretty good distraction so you can effectively get to them. Then again any knife flying at you would be a bit of a distraction, just one sticking in you would be quit a bit more.

    • @wizeisinger
      @wizeisinger 7 лет назад +56

      Having thrown spin, no-spin, and combat many times. the combat throw is the best suited to a combat situation and personally a more accurate and more powerful throw, it is a choked half spin throw that the thrower instinctively holds the knife by the blade at the correct position to achieve a stick for the distance required. I have only tried this once to kill, it was over 30 years ago, whilst hunting It was very successful it was requested by my foreman for food, not fun, also a horizontal throw to the back of the neck was the chosen method to achieve an almost instant death and minimal suffering.

    • @TechnologistAtWork
      @TechnologistAtWork 7 лет назад +8

      yes

    • @Vinnay94
      @Vinnay94 7 лет назад +5

      Yeah, no spin throws don't work well against vertical or horizontal grain wood targets as the knife tends to bullet spin because usually the knife sticks better when it hits within the grain, that's why you notice a lot of Russian No Spin throwers have these targets made up of blocks of wood with the End grains facing out, that way you can do no spin and spin throws at the target.

      Not trying to be a douche, but a couple things couple affect the outcome of the throws.
      1. He can't throw all of them with the exact same arm strength every time, and
      2. He's throwing all at the same ballistic gel, meaning previous wounds are prexisting. If you hit in the same place twice it will look far more deadly than it would be if it had to penetrate the exterior.
      This was overall a great video though, just a couple thoughts. I'm impressed by your throwing abilities!

      Have you ever fired a Mosin? 7.62x54r is a pretty significant round. Every time I fire mine, a shockwave goes across the grass in front of the gun, a fireball comes out about 3 feet, and the leaves get rustled around. That's from firing 185-grain military surplus ammo in a standing position.

      N8THEGR8 It depends on the rifle and ammo, though. My rifle tends to hit within an inch of grouping at 100 yds. With light-ball, it's about 2-3 inches. I've seen some that aren't quite as accurate, but they tend to have corroded barrels.

      Not only that but the easiest way to consistently stick it in target is to figure out the ideal distance for a specific throw(velocity, rotation, etc)
      It's hard to throw a knife dynamically (moving targets, random distances, etc)
      Yeah if you hit them with the handle it will hurt but that is true for any item of similar mass. Might as well throw rocks.

      I used to do straight-throws with knives... They're actually pretty reliable for about the first 3-4 meters. Then you can go to half-spin throws that cover twice that distance and are flying basically straight after the spin. Straight throws were a lot harder than spinning throws but would be useful if someone was charging you and you had an extra knife to chuck at them.

  • @9SS94Cr
    @9SS94Cr 8 лет назад +13

    If you have a knife or hawk that were not designed for throwing, DO NOT THROW THEM on a regular basis. Throwing causes a lot of lateral stress that the tools were not designed to handle. It is a fast recipe to damage or break your tool. The Kabar bent after one throw, and that's exactly what will happen to a knife that was not designed for this. Throwing is a form of heavy abuse, especially with knives that have high hardness blade to maintain good edge performance. There is a reason why throwing knives are made of cheap soft steels--they can absorb shock and lateral stress way better.

    • @PaperSlyPika
      @PaperSlyPika 8 лет назад

      obviously if your gonna throw a knife know that its original purpose probably is gone because of throwing it and trying to learn the exacts to it in general

      I've saw a lot of videos in which they say that throwing knives at someone has very little chance of injuring your target and zero chance of killing them, regardless of how much practice you put in or how good you get at it.
      They always say that you can't get enough force behind it to cause serious injury and that it would perhaps serve only as a small, momentary distraction at best and serve to give your weapon to your target at worst.
      Next time i come across such a video or argument i'll be directing them to this video. Great job. You really have your technique honed to incredible levels. Subscribed :)

    • @chucknix1129
      @chucknix1129 8 лет назад +3

      John Marston Agreed. We have performed test were hatchet style weapons show to have a higher kinetic force after being slung as opposed to swinging. People tend to sling harder than they swing due to not have to be concerned with following control of an object remaining in the hand. So, if you can generate enough energy to to cause injury by swinging, an object with enough mass will definitely have plenty of force when throne. When you see those videos, another option would be to refer them to baseball players being hit by pitches. A throw, round object with much less mass generally takes down those it strikes for what would be long enough to shift the balance of a hand to hand scenario.

    • @johnmarston1155
      @johnmarston1155 8 лет назад +5

      Great points. I've seen someone being knocked on there ass by a pitch. I've also been at football/soccer games and watched players as well as fans being kocked out cold after being hit with the ball in the head. Soccer balls are extremely light and round and cause a reasonable amount of damage. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a knife or hatchet being thrown with even a FRACTION of the force of a baseball pitch/hit or a soccer kick!

Though Andrew's isn't pure "teevee" accent, it's just a smidge Southern, so I'd guess he's from Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, or Iowa. Just a guess though, it's pure conjecture and I am not sure. So, yeah. Default American "teevee" accent. Easy to understand, difficult to imitate, but I speak from experience when I say that from a "teevee" accent it is very easy to imitate other accents.

      Do you mean when he threw the axe into Magni's shoulder? One of Thor's sons? I don't recall Kratos throwing the axe into Baldur. He broke his neck to kill him.

    Getting flashbacks of Spike's Deadliest Warrior tv show. I loved that show when they used all those different type of weapons on ballistic gels.

      Coach Lombardi used to say if you throw 300 balls at nothing you achieve nothing. You throw 300 balls through a tire and you achieve accuracy. Aim at nothing, and you're sure to hit it.

    Hey Andrew, your knife throwing is exceptional and I also couldn't ignore the fact that you sound a lot like Chris Evans and you got the same built as him as well.

      Figure out how fast your weapon spins considering its weight and count the distance with steps. Then just throw it correctly but not into stuff like live wood or it'll damage it.

      Marley Murray I've been throwing knives and hawks for 25+ years. Practice. the longer and heavier the throwing implement, the slower the rotation. very easy to figure out with practice. hawks, especially the traditional style he was throwing spin very predictably. Also, with hawks you can reverse your grip, and throw them with the bit facing back and get twice the sticking potential. based on how close you are. I can reliably and repeatedly stick hawks and big throwing knives out to 60 feet.

    Dude, you rock. Nice to see a friendly and informative video on products. I say informative because you have some things I never seen before. The "experts" who are slamming you are cheap entertainment. Strange how non of them have any videos to show all of us how it's "really done."
