-Oh so you're playing a game about Yakuza? Any challenging enemies you have to face in it? -Yeah, the Mitsuho Tigers are a pretty tough nut to crack. -Is that the name of a gang? -No, they're my rival baseball team 😂
Michael Miller Ditto. I've bought a PS3 just to play Yakuza 3/4/5 and Dead Souls. Even the graphics look pretty much the same as Kiwami on PS4, just at 720p/30, which looks fine.
Wow Huber, an 8.5! I was really concerned with the reviews that mentioned that the story was not good. Most of the people who played the Japanese version had negative opinions on the game. So, this makes me really happy.
Makes improvements upon the game, story is apparently worse than a typical yakuza game but not bad, but overall I'd say it's just a good game from what I've heard and has made a lot of improvements. So gameplay/content over story, while still being good on the story front.
I've played the first 4-5 Chapters. As someone who finds Yakuza 2 and 3 to be his favorites, I think Yakuza 6 is one of the most engaging and focused experiences in the series... so far, that is. The story is very personal, emotional and has very little filler to detract from the pacing. It's not as complex as some other titles but I really feel that the characters you meet have enough depth to hold things together. Combat has moved backwards as far as having a single fighting style like the original titles and the game tries to make up for it with an overhauled physics engine and a skill tree that, unlike Yakuza 0/Kiwami, always has something worth investing points in. I guess it just depends on what you want in a Yakuza game.. Yakuza 6 is like a copy of Yakuza 3 in many areas with far less annoying segments (babysitting the orphans) and that works for me.
Vic Richards Nice picks, Y2 and Y3 are my favorites alongside Y0. I'd say this one will appeal heavily to someone who enjoyed Y3. I thought they also did a great job with the ending to Y6, was very worried about it after hearing the criticism from the importers, but it turned out great.
Happy to see good reviews rolling in for this game. I will pick it up either way because i have been a fan of the Yakuza series since the beginning so i cannot leave out Kiryu's conclusion. I know that this being the 6th game out of the main series is off putting to some who want to experience it from the start. I highly recommend you get on Amazon and pick up 3, 4 and get the 5th on PSN store. They are not expensive and all of them are great. Even if you don't there is no doubt you will enjoy any Yakuza game no matter where you start. I didn't go straight down the line, i played in this order, 1, 2, 5, 3, 4, 0 and Kiwami. As you can see i was all over the place and still enjoyed the hell out of all of them. Some of the games have videos summarizing the earlier games as well so if you pick up 4 it will have videos showing you what happened in 1, 2 and 3. The story branches and is stretched over so many games that you will forget a ton of it anyway, it doesn't stop it from being amazing so i highly recommend you pick up 6 and support great Japanese made games so we can continue to get more localizations in the future.
I just got into the series. Playing Kiwami AND I LOVE IT. I had it back in the PS2 but it never appealed to me probably as I was too young to appreciate it. Now I know all games are on PS4, but seeing as Kiwami 2 has all the bells and whistles and more from 6... in what order should I play the series?
Normally I'd say to start with 0 and go chronologically from there, but since you're already playing Kiwami, I would just continue going chronologically. So Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3, 4, and 5. However, I would definitely play Yakuza 0 before you play 6. Especially since by the time you're done with 5, you'll be able to appreciate all the stuff RGG put in there for the longtime fans. However you decide to do it, you're in for a treat!
Did you even play last yakuza games? The combat is vastly improved, stuff like being able to change direction of attack mid combo instead of being caught in animation loops for one simple example. Then stuff like throwing someone off a roof or into the ocean or so forth. Being able to fight through stuff like store shelves and stuff.
It's also a shorter but more compact game, overall the 4 styles were kind of meh. Also the 4 styles represented Kiryu's inexperience, Dragon style is what they all develop into. I only used rush (or whatever boxing was) style really. Overall the other games build upon each other combat wise while this reinvents it. I prefer a slightly less elaborate combat style that is different than a few new heat moves.
Not really, 0 was kind of dumbed down from 5. 0's combat styles are just built around letting you fight how you want and maybe having a crowd control style. 5 had each character pretty much acting uniquely with new mechanics to them. Kiryu was Kiryu in dragon style, also it's canon that Kiryu stopped using a lot of styles since he developed his own, dragon style. Saejima had a lot of unique mechanics to throws and also he has loading up power moves. Haruka literally had a bunch of unique rhythm games to go for her. Akiyama had air juggles and stuff. I'm replaying it now (like not this instant but current game) and I'm on the last character starting it up when I jump into the game again. 5 also has a better story honestly as well, made 1000x better even by attachment to characters and character development for haruka. Less styles =/= dumbed down. You can now freely move around without being restricted to an arena, combat is instant, physics has been added to the combat, blocking now leaves the other vulnerable to attack so you have to be more wary of that, you have a seemingly super state (which kiwami had in different states but 0 didn't), you have the ability to literally just throw someone off a roof outright without heat action prompt or into the sea, you can then jump after them off the roof to keep the assault going, etc (I haven't really played it yet to know the full extent). Also there are a shit ton more side content that are new which is fresh after 0 and kiwami had the same stuff. Also the way you level up skills is pretty cool as well, overall graphics look great, etc. Honestly combat wasn't too much my focus outside of boss fights cuz I've played all the games but changing it up is great for those who've been with the series forever and it'll only get better like the original combat styles did (and it's not drastically different but it is distinctly different) throughout the series. As someone who's been with the series since 2, yeah it looks amazing and I'm the kind of person who will mainly be playing 6 anyway. Anyway Yakuza combat has always started with basic blocks, dodges, and combos and developed into more when your character gets stronger.
At this point people are just trying to make Y6 look bad or nitpick. For some reason they want it to be bad or can't accept that multiple games in the series might be quite good. And yeah the new combat system is basicly 2-3 styles from Zero combined into one style. People need to stop with this more is better mentality. Noone would use 8 fighting styles, barely anyone played the 200 reused minigames from older games etc.
CarlosTheHitman yakuza is a SEGA game. they always have SEGA games in the arcade as an homage. it’s not some insulting thing you’re making it out to be and you’d know this if you actually played this series.
Yes, I know that Yakima games have Sega Arcades with the company's games. My point was about how Virtua Fighter hasn't had any new games since 2012, with no indication of a new one coming soon.
UrinalMint Wait, what? I can't find anything on Amazon.com, .co.uk or Ebay. And I remember reading forums where people were angry at Sega for not releasing retail version when every other Yakuza game got it, including Dead Souls.
Hideo Kojima I like to collect physical copies because once Sony cuts the cord on PS3 everyone's digital libraries are gone. They did it with PSP before, you can still download some from the store but PSP can no longer connect to PSN. It's only a matter of time. I know physical discs don't last eternity either but 10+ years for sure.

I really hope Yakuza 2 Kiwami gets localized and clan creator I kind of like and interested in the most I also played the demo and even with one fighting style it didn't stop the combat from feeling satisfying
So I've never played a Yakuza game. I'm planning on playing Kiwami, then 0, and finally buying 6 when I'm done with those 2. Will I be completely lost going into 6? Do I need to play the other 4 as well?
you better play 0 before kiwami, and yes you will be completely lost going into 6 cause kazuma goes through a completly different character change by the 6th game from where he leaves off in 1. Really if you can its better to just play from the very first game on the psone rather than elsewhere, there is an incredible progression of mechanics and events as it goes on that get spoiled by jumping into 0 first. 0 also is jam packed with fanservice from all the games after it and plays off your expectations of the characters cause many are radically different than in future game. but if you absolutly have to only play one game, get 0 not kiwami.
Damn, I’m a massive yakuza fan but ever since it came out i feel like ima bit torn with 6. The combat is always my favorite part, thats where i spend most of my time aside from the story (which is great) and i just wonder why 6 doesnt have style switching?! 0 and Kiwami 1 both did, and i get that 6 uses the new dragon engine but, thats where im kinda torn! I massively prefer the feel of the dragon engine, i love the way it feels to knock enemys back and have them ragdoll semi realistically as opposed to enemies just having like stock “knocked down” animations. The flow of the Dragon engine’s ragdolling is way more immersive and satisfying, but i REALLY miss style switching! I just cant decide if i like 0 and Kiwami 1’s way of things over 6 and Kiwami 2. Oh well, at least theres Judgement and Lost judgement- which both run beautifully on the dragon engine AND feature style switching. Plus the new Kaito files DLC for LJ has made it possible to feel what it _would_ be like to play style switching Kiryu from 0 but in the dragon engine. I guess i just wish we had gotten an official Kiryu entry that had both. Oh well
I just got into the series, currently playing kiwami 1 and the combat is so fkn laughably awful I'm about to put it down after just a few hours. My god it's so bad..
@@acidfruitloops cool man, that has nothing to do with me. I dont get it, like did you seek this video just to then come down and comment that? Uh, for what exactly? Youre a weirdo dude
Does anyone know if This game has that "Recap" Feature like in previous games that tells what happened in previous games? i never got around to playing Yakuza 5
The demo on base PS4 struggled to keep 30 fps in the open world, did something change? It's a shame bc 0 was 60 fps with the old engine and the game was not as seamless but still beautiful.
Yeah it is, the series has been going on. It's like when people complain that the ps5 is going to come out in like 2020 or whenever (all speculation) cuz they still haven't got a ps4 yet and it came out over 4 years ago. The series has been going on for a long time and people have been following it, they shouldn't stop the new games from releasing just because some people decided to join for the remakes.
HopOnTheHype It’s not the same. The fact of the matter is that Yakuza 2 is the only game that is difficult to get a hold of now, and if you understand how numbers work, this person cannot play 3-6 if they haven’t first played 2. ‘You should have got into the series earlier’ is just an unfair argument. You shouldn’t be gatekeeping new fans because they weren’t around at the start. The fact of the matter is that Kiwami 2 is a thing that already exists and only needs localisation - a process that doesn’t strain development of any future Yakuza games in any way, shape, or form. Not to mention, Kiwami 2 ties much better into 0 and Kiwami, so new fans and old fans alike BOTH benefit from it arriving on western shores. People aren’t just gonna NOT ask for it just because you feel older fans are entitled to be catered towards especially.
I loved those trouble missions in which you had to calm down Haruto. It's just so hilarious. Awesome game. I hope one day we'll get a western release of Ishin.
Well, i only have Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 4, Yakuza 0 should arrive this week from Play Asia and i'll start with that. I'll play Kiwami after but will wait for Kiwami 2, then i'll have to keep looking for a cheaper Yakuza 3, sadly, 5 is digital only which breaks my heart. I have Yakuza 6 pre ordered with the book but since i starting to try this thing called "restraint" i may have to cancel that until i actually play the rest, i just hope it doesn't become rare as Yakuza 0 which never dropped in price, just in availability, like both Gravity Rush games which i imported from Play Asia as well (asian version for both GR, Yakuza 0 is american).
I wish shenmue 3 was made with this same dragon engine and similar graphics style, the control mechanics in that game were terrible such a shame as I loved shenmue 1 and 2 and just cannot be bothered to get through it and don’t get me started with the npc’s in that game!!😞 Thank god for the yakuza games 😊
Yeah.... I was very disappointed at the lack of content compared to like kiwami 2 or zero. i'm ok with the story and the sent of fore kiryu, but the content did lacks some punch.
If all of Sega's games were as good as the Yakuza series, they'd be the legends they once were. Too bad they focus on terrible Sonic games, like handcuffing a decaying corpse to their ankle. At least they acquired Atlus, and their PC divisions. Otherwise....
As much as I liked playing the previous entries, I couldnt enjoy 0 because of the combat. Maybe I ve gotten spoiled from too many good games with great combat. If combat did not evolve, I have to give this a pass, even though I really want to play this just for the setting alone.
Game is out in a month but the reviews are out now. This will definitely hurt sales. Another bizarre decision by Sega, they have knack for stuffing things up.
Better make sure u play this on PS4pro. Because the standard ps4 suffers from alot of screen tearing, flickering and frame rate issues. The pro doesn't have these problems.
8.5 is a bit high imo. There’s just not enough going on in the story department. Gameplay also feels like a step back compared to previous titles in the series and this is also the least amount of content since the original Yakuza.
can be seen as a spiritual successor in some ways, but yakuza is kind of its own beast, i dont think it was ever intentional to be like shenmue though series creator and first game directly Toshihiro Nagoshi is yu suzuki's(virtual fighter, shenmue) protogee which probably influenced it somewhat
Gotta be honest, even knowing how much the Allies love Yakuza, everything about it looks so unappealing to me. It looks like it's comprised of far too many side activities, and not enough actual substance. Even the combat doesn't look very fun.
the games have always had absurd amounts of side content and gotten high praise for how surprisingly deep some of the minigames get after 5 becoming their own games more or less, the actual main content is also super meaty usually being around 30 some hours on their own after the 5th game. The games gathered such a following because these side activities have substance, instead of having a dumb little mini game where you just race a toy car in 0 for example, its an entire storyline played really comedically that has you customizing it with parts, going through tournaments of people taking things way too seriously, and even having singular side missions with cast exclusive to this car racing sidequest to flesh out the character's . Its kind of absurd how much depth things have cause the games have always been smart about content density rather than making some big dumb open world, its a small condensed district with things to do and see everywhere and is so small in size it never feels like a burden to travel.
jsh020 I get that it’s not just simple mini games, but it doesn’t mean I would want to play a game like Yakuza where half the game is comprised of meaty mini games. Doesn’t mesh well to me
-Oh so you're playing a game about Yakuza? Any challenging enemies you have to face in it?
-Yeah, the Mitsuho Tigers are a pretty tough nut to crack.
-Is that the name of a gang?
-No, they're my rival baseball team
😂

It’s not the same.
People aren’t just gonna NOT ask for it just because you feel older fans are entitled to be catered towards especially.
combat is actually pretty different from before but
is this game out or something because everybody is playing it and gamestop says it is coming out april 20th
I loved those trouble missions in which you had to calm down Haruto. It's just so hilarious. Awesome game. I hope one day we'll get a western release of Ishin.
Started playing 0 in 2020, and I don’t regret it. This series is incredible. By time Yakuza 7 comes out, I’ll just be getting to Yakuza 6. Lolol
RIP Okada's name.
Kudan you can play both Yakuza 4-5 on PlaystationNow for $20
Okada and Naito from NJPW are in it? Too good. Get Ospreay and Omega as dlc please
is this game in English? or do I need to read subtitles? not that I care, just curious.
I hate that all these reviews are coming out and we still have to wait a fucking month to play it!
3.5 Stars!
Really hyped for this game, but I have to finish zero first 😲
How in the hell is he still wearing that same suit? And why won't it come to steam already!
Beat Yakuza 6 a year ago, it was very disappointed. However, Kiwami 2 came last year, and that one was really good.
Yeah.... I was very disappointed at the lack of content compared to like kiwami 2 or zero. i'm ok with the story and the sent of fore kiryu, but the content did lacks some punch.
Can this be my first yakuza game?
no
"Don Casanova"
I think that an 8.5 is a bit too much for it, but still, great review.
why do they have karaoke if the songs dont have english subs to see what hes singing....
Sodachi is the James Harden of Y6
with the best defense
2:04 Breath of the Wild. (I love Yakuza though, no hate)
Really lol nobody was bagging on BotW, you don't need to randomly bring it up on a Yakuza review
Woah when did Easy Allies start with 1-10 scoring and not 1-5?
watch this ruclips.net/video/f-kOfnr-rDQ/видео.html
I probably would love this game if it had the combat of the Arkham games. I just don't like the combat of Yakuza.
This doesn't even come out until sometime in April, right? Geez, that's an early review!
it was meant to be next week but it got delayed
Make me wonder what exactly it got delayed for if they're satisfied enough with it to put out review copies already.
should I play the other games? I'm mostly looking for a fun, flashy action with this game, and a lot of humour.
then you should, this game are that and more.
but should I play the others or is it possible to enjoy playing only this one?
you should try to play the other ones for the story. 0 and Kiwami are good starting points.
If all of Sega's games were as good as the Yakuza series, they'd be the legends they once were. Too bad they focus on terrible Sonic games, like handcuffing a decaying corpse to their ankle. At least they acquired Atlus, and their PC divisions. Otherwise....
lum0s so Persona is now their property?
Essentially, yes. The Atlus wikipedia page briefly describes the complicated situation.
I have to say I don't really like the floating star background in this new EZA reviews. It looks like Christmas.
wish they'd remaster Yakuza 1 to 5 for this gen in one complete package to buy :P
1 and 2 got remastered for PS4? :O
The God Emperor yeah yakuza kiwami is a remake of the first game while kiwami 2 is a remake of the 2nd
As much as I liked playing the previous entries, I couldnt enjoy 0 because of the combat. Maybe I ve gotten spoiled from too many good games with great combat. If combat did not evolve, I have to give this a pass, even though I really want to play this just for the setting alone.
who here didn't die more than once in yakuza 6
Game is out in a month but the reviews are out now. This will definitely hurt sales.
Another bizarre decision by Sega, they have knack for stuffing things up.
Rev BladeZ not only that, they released it same week as God of War.
Sega are on a roll!... of bad decisions.
Who is running this company? a chicken?
Better make sure u play this on PS4pro. Because the standard ps4 suffers from alot of screen tearing, flickering and frame rate issues. The pro doesn't have these problems.
The Phantom I didn't have these problems on the Japanese demo
Need… more… easy allies… reviews…. Literally review anything. Review canned coke. As long as it’s reviewed by the gt guy
Yakuza 6 is really good just beat the game today and what an ending no spoilers here
NOt to mention this game has Japanese adult idols that you can earn videos for!
8.5 is a bit high imo. There’s just not enough going on in the story department. Gameplay also feels like a step back compared to previous titles in the series and this is also the least amount of content since the original Yakuza.
WHY DOES THIS LOOK LIKE SHENMUE!!!!
can be seen as a spiritual successor in some ways, but yakuza is kind of its own beast, i dont think it was ever intentional to be like shenmue though series creator and first game directly Toshihiro Nagoshi is yu suzuki's(virtual fighter, shenmue) protogee which probably influenced it somewhat
SEGA needs to stop playing and give us Shenmue...with this engine. wtf i dont get it.
why would you want that when the people who made shenmue arent at sega anymore, and they are all off actually making shenmue 3
that question doesnt make sense.. why would i want shenmue 3..when the original staff dont work there anymore? WHAT?
THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON STILL WORKS THERE Toshihiro Nagoshi
Narrator reminds me of game trailers
Combat gets boring...
They took blood out of Yakuza kiwami 2
so.. 0 is better?
Yes, 0 is the best game in the series
personal rankings 0 >ishin > 5 > 2 > 4 > 6 = 3 > 1
no
thanks xbox game pass you
This is the easiest 10 since MGS5, at least in my opinion. Good review though!
This review is full of unnecessary spoilers
This makes me want to play Sleeping Dogs again
Doesn’t mesh well to me
Just give it a try when on sale (0 or Kiwami first). I always played Yakuza for the plot, not the minigames :)
Helmaroc My man...the plot of Yakuza 0 will blow you away.
Meh. Looks repetitive and boring like all the other games in the series. Its amazing this looks exactly like a PS2 game still.
the series combat hasnt looked or played like the ps2 games since the 3rd game, as in the 2007 samurai game we never got.
TheNegroShoddy Gets your eyes checked.
And get some new trash talk materials as well. "Looking like a PS2 game" is beyond lame at this point.
TheNegroShoddy You drunk or something? Find me a PS2 games that have Yakuza 6 graphic. I'll wait.
TheNegroShoddy graphically I disagree with you but I can completely understand what you mean when it comes to the combat, it looks a ps2 brawler
Ooooohhh look, a snowflake, and he has poor sight too.
