Best video that I have seen for this persnickety project. Love the audio. If the dealer won’t fix mine under warranty I’ll give this a try. This wouldn’t be necessary if metal gears were used instead of the cheesy plastic gears.

No repair will just mean replacement. Used one from a wreck will probably fail quickly. Those factory gears just don’t last. Best solution is factory replacement of the whole mirror. Probably last about five years. But expensive. Good luck.
Thanks for making this vid. Hav a 2017 Kia K3 where get grinding sounds when opening right side mirror. Gonna get some gears to replace and see if can fix the issue. Will save some good $. Thanks ago.

I did for a Kia Optima 2013, it worked on the right side at first. Then I noticed, some electrical issues, trunk opening by itself, key fob not working. I then did the other side and figured that I might put the cables wrong (the ones you marked at the beginning) I reversed it and still doing the same. And the mirror folding is not working anymore 🙂↕️ Kinda tired, I’m planning on redoing the whole thing see what I missed or taking it to the shop.
Worse case get mirror in open position and disconnect the power and abandon. Dealer will just replace with new. They will not repair. You can easily replace yourself and save the labor.
Makes you really question the intelligence of some of these engineers/designers! I just spent 6 hours repairing the gasket on the valve cover. 2012 Kia optima SX TDI. Pain in the rump! But when reconnected the battery I heard this click, click, click from the driver side window. Finally narrowed the noise down to the power folding mirror. CANNOT find a stinking fuse to shut that off so now I guess I'm gonna have to disconnect power from the mirror at least temporarily so it doesn't drain the battery. ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!
Hi awesome video but I am having issues finding the right replacement motors, do you have an idea where I can get them? Figure while i'm in there i would like to put new ones in.
I never needed to replace myself. Work great ten years later. I do see them on eBay for $15 though. Cheap enough it’s worth a shot. Search for part numbers. FC260SD14270 and FC260SD15250 on eBay search. Best to remove first so you can compare pictures.
Thanks for the great video. While waiting for replacement gears, would it work to disassemble the mirror enough to just unplug the folding motor wiring? I was thinking that would at least stop the constant clicking and perhaps the mirror tilt adjust would continue to function.
It simply pulls out but you have to squeeze it as one side has a release tab. Very similar to any auto connection throughout the vehicle. Worse case take needle nosed pliers and squeeze and pull hard using the pliers. Squeeze the two wider sides. Not the two shorter sides. It’s a very small clip so it’s hard to do with fingers.
Hi, thank you for the video, but after replacing these gears it does not function as usual I mean the mirror does not close and open only can adjust the position of the mirror
Was the old gear damaged and broken like mine? Do you hear the motor engaging and trying to turn the mirror. Could be a bad motor? Did you plug it back in? Could also be a bad switch inside. If the other mirror works you probably have power and no blown fuse.
@@DIYHelp FYI my car is a 2017 Azera. The motor is similar. The taller gear broke and I got a new one. I plugged in the mirror with the motor. All I hear is a click. When I remove the gear, I can hear the motor spinning. I thought I got a slightly larger gear, but no. I even put back the broken factory one, but it doesn’t spin. I may have to a buy the entire piece all together.
Basically, the big metal part that the motor and gears rely on in order to rotate the mirror does not spin when I put the taller gear in. Even when I try to spin it manually, if the gear is in, it won’t spin. It’s like if it’s wedged.
