Triumph solid rack mount upgrade
TR6 and similar. This replaces the standard rubber mounts with a solid aluminum mounts. Steering is much less sloppy and does not require any special tools. The rubber mounts are too soft and Poor quality. Very difficult to compress properly. The urethane mounts are too stiff and do not compress correctly in the mounts. Best bet imho is the solid mounts like these from Goodparts. Some kits don’t address the small plastic button well but this kit does and covers it. I had to sand mine down a little. Found steering is much more responsive. No noticeable harshness is felt. #diyhelp

This video focuses how to remove heater box from car. Left hand drive. No AC car. The easy way. Triumph. Probably same for TR5 or TR250. This does not follow the factory directions of dash and center console removal. Using the short cut method proved to be very successful. Follow my tips. J-Type Overdrive Solenoid Rebuild (Triumph TR6 here)
Просмотров 3452 месяца назад
Most overdrive engaging issues occur with a sticky solenoid. Often times sticking in the on position when hot and won’t release which is dangerous. If stuck On never put car in reverse. The solenoid controls a ton of pressure. They are very robust and expensive to replace. Typically the five o-rings need to be replaced to restore the solenoid plus a good cleaning. The J-Type was used in later T...
Triumph TR6 Horn Repair
Просмотров 3694 месяца назад
I’ve been chasing horn issues for ten years. The horns would work intermittently for a while and finally stopped. All I got was a click. I could get the horn to work a bit when connected directly to the battery so I knew it could function. So I’ve replaced battery. Replaced fuse. Cleaned all connections. Replaced ground wire at steering shaft. Redid the horn button a few times. Nothing worked a...

This was done on a 1976 Triumph Tr6 but basic mounting and wiring principles work for just about any 12v vehicle. There is no one way to do this. This is what I did. I used Little British car parts as they sell all Moss parts at a discount. Fuse and wiring came from A mazon. Right now it’s hot all the time when battery is on. I wired directly to battery for max power and amps. The idea is I can...

TR6 Triumph Trailing Arm Stud Upgrade @DIYHELP

Here is a potential life saving defect. The rear wheels are held in place with steel studs in aluminum threads. It’s not ideal as when it fails your rear wheel will sail right past you at some point. Using Patton Machine insert jig and parts from McMaster this can be completed in an afternoon quite easily. The end result is much stronger due to strong keen or heli coil inserts in the existing t...

Do it yourself red line tires. Original tires on TR6 USA were 185r15. Metric tire from France with Red line on them. Most made by Michelin. On a British Racing Green car they look amazing. Not made anymore. There are a few companies that make their own by modifying an existing tire. Diamond Back. Coker has one also. My replacement is the common used size of 205-70r15. These are Michelin Harmony...
Triumph TR6 Differential Mount crack and repair. @DIYHELP

This is a 1976 TR6. Last year built with all the improvements over the years. Low miles yet the mount was cracked all the way through. Classic break well documented by many. I was a bit shocked to see it though. I firmly believe all our cars will do this no matter what. Therefore if you have not checked yours do it. Mine was cracked but no damage to anything else. Check your pin mount on the to...
TRIUMPH Water Pump Upgrade. Rebuild along with radiator and stat discussion. @DIYHELP

I sent out my water pump for full rebuild and upgrade by The Flying Dutchman. Came back great. This upgrade replaces the factory four flat vanes with a modern six vane impeller. This will increase flow. Especially at idle which is most important. So better cooling and less work for the engine. He also has a recommendation for rebuild overseas. It’s on his website as shown in the video. At this ...

This goes with my gas peddle shaft bushing video. This cleans up the other half to smooth out and reduce sloppiness when stepping on peddle. I found two areas a little worn. My old 40 plus year Lucas alternator needed a rebuild. I decided to try a modern alternator for right now. This has a small upgrade in amps and shouldn’t overload the charging wire. Triumph service counter removal and speedometer cable replacement TR6
I did for a Kia Optima 2013, it worked on the right side at first. Then I noticed, some electrical issues, trunk opening by itself, key fob not working. I then did the other side and figured that I might put the cables wrong (the ones you marked at the beginning) I reversed it and still doing the same. And the mirror folding is not working anymore 🙂↕️ Kinda tired, I’m planning on redoing the whole thing see what I missed or taking it to the shop.
Worse case get mirror in open position and disconnect the power and abandon. Dealer will just replace with new. They will not repair. You can easily replace yourself and save the labor.
Do you now if it is compatible to kia ceed 2012 ?
I really don’t unfortunately.
Thanks for posting. I'm starting my '73 with just over 100k miles. Did you really have to remove the prop shaft? I didn't plan to remove that.
I would reinforce for sure. At least the front right. Prop can stay in place but good time to remove and examine. Clean up. Repaint. New lock nuts. It’s very difficult to get out unless differential is removed or you jack up the transmission.
Dang, learned something today! Thanks for the info!
One of the finest instructional videos I’ve watched
I purchased a used 2019 Ridgeline and last two years, I noticed water dampness on the front floor cover. I thought left the windows cracked the windshield replaced or the top trim loose or something, I always saw moisture inside the car after rain and when I started the truck, wiped the windows inside due to moisture build-up, and white residue on the seats more than likely years of dampness and water stains, came and learned that I did the same thing like this gentleman I spray the front of the car with garden hose shower mode for ten minutes around the door, windshield, top trim and saw no water inside. I watered the back of the truck where the back window is and like in the video in less than a few minutes, all my floors were wet from back to front. I saw many posts and blogs online, and even newer models have the same issue, I read somewhere that class action is moving forward. It is a shame to put a product like this and not seal all the areas in the back. I have bed allergies and sniff anytime when I get into my car. I will rip apart and replace or clean the floor foam and seal all welded areas in the back. I will call Honda and complain, I hope that the class action lawsuit gets a result, these car companies are putting people through work. We are not car experts to figure out. Shame on Honda. My next car won't be a Honda for sure. We had a Honda Accord and it had a water leak issue as well years ago.
Local Toyota dealer quoted me $760 for all four doors, no joke, thank you a million❤ I know a cynic who doesn't even believe it's possible
My 2019 Ridgeline has always had water on the floors, both passenger and driver side. Anytime we have good rain, it soaks the foam. Why can Honda get this right? We had an old Accord years ago; it leaked. No more Honda for me. One of my friends plans to buy a Ridgeline. I told him about the leaks. He is looking for another brand. Good Job Honda is already losing customers.
Thank you very much. This video was perfect
They definitely should have recalled due to this.. My 2020 has the same issue.
I already tried, but some parts was cracked 😂 from Laos 🇱🇦
Thanks for the instruction. Lucky you for getting those at about $35 each! While it was 4 yrs ago, Toyota gave me a quote of $310 for the 4 pieces. Off to Amazon I go!
Nice job! I have a question about o-ring sizes. The numbering, as appeared in the video, does not help to find out the correct o-rings. The size shall be expressed as internal diameter & thickness. Do you have this information? Also inside solenoid there is one more o-ring that seals the piston assembly from the solenoid. I had leakage exactly there.... Taking out the piston setup from solenoid is PIA and tricky! Not guaranteed always...
if you order the size I call out which is the WD size (water displacement) the correct size will arrive. Web address and all sizes: McMaster-Carr: www.mcmaster.com/products/rubber/hardness~durometer-70a/o-rings-1~/oil-resistant-buna-n-o-rings-8/ The Orings you need are: All BUNA 70. Size 7. Great Job. Really helps me ! Congratulations....
I can’t believe how much air and actual heat I have now. Huge difference.
TA- DA. It's out Congratulations. Not too many hand cuts I hope. As usual, it looks like a pain but is doable. Because she's not a daily driver I can always walk away. Thanks many times. I'm a lot less worried now! Now to take it apart ???
My blowers not working so if it's fails the test I'll be right behind you on this removal. Funny enough I've had my glove box out for over a year. Glad I don't have to monkey with that. Want to continue watching. Report back. Thanks
I got a new gear, but whenever I put it in, the mirror doesn’t turn. Not even when I turn it manually. I’m confused af
Was the old gear damaged and broken like mine? Do you hear the motor engaging and trying to turn the mirror. Could be a bad motor? Did you plug it back in? Could also be a bad switch inside. If the other mirror works you probably have power and no blown fuse.
@@DIYHelp FYI my car is a 2017 Azera. The motor is similar. The taller gear broke and I got a new one. I plugged in the mirror with the motor. All I hear is a click. When I remove the gear, I can hear the motor spinning. I thought I got a slightly larger gear, but no. I even put back the broken factory one, but it doesn’t spin. I may have to a buy the entire piece all together.
Basically, the big metal part that the motor and gears rely on in order to rotate the mirror does not spin when I put the taller gear in. Even when I try to spin it manually, if the gear is in, it won’t spin. It’s like if it’s wedged.
I have 2 J types, one on a Stag, and one on a Dolomite Sprint, and both are too close to the body or exhaust to get a spanner on there to undo, so I got an old open end spanner and cut the end off (like a crow foot spanner) and welded that onto the other (handle) end of a single end spanner at 90 degrees, and that slides on. You can only turn it so far, but as you said, once it loosens from tight, can turn undone by hand. Same to tighten, it turns most of the way by hand, then the last little bit, spanner has enough travel to tighten.
Great idea. I have tunnel access also with an access plate but it’s a pain to get too.
Hope you like them as I do. For me, it exposed some play in the ball joints since it tightened everything up otherwise.
I just popped one line and keep pouring fluid in as I see the color change I shut the motor off. Reattach the line and then check fluid level
I’ve done that before also with other cars. Seemed to work well. Not with RIDGELINE yet.
Question for something i do not understand. At 13:24 you show the drill bit setting a gap. WHen you pull out the drill bit what keeps that gap set? it seems these parts just slide around. Am i missing something?
I was just demonstrating where the drill bit goes. This gap gives the gas peddle a little dead spot when you fist step on it. To answer your question you set the gap once all the linkage is fully installed in the car. It will secure correctly when everything is connected.
Thank you! I ordered the parts (all four pieces) on Amazon for a bit over 36 bucks. Not a lot of quality pics of them there, but they look right. Wish me luck!
Just put the front two on today. Finally got the time and weather to do it...They fit like a charm! The front two were completely done with so they were the important ones! For "tapping them down", I used a rubber mallet (small) and a small block of aluminum bar stock. Other than that, your advice and video were spot on and a life saver! Thanks again!
Where did you buy the new gear?
There is a link in my comments. Get from eBay. Typically ships from China.
Thanks for your great video. Now I can proceed with the repair. The pictures of the inside motor area are very helpful...Thank you!
My car is Cerato 2019 1.6 can you get me the link for that part?? I need it, Can you help me??
I don’t have a resource that can help you. If it were me I would direct contact several of the suppliers on EBay. Typically Chinese suppliers and see if they can help. You may need to take apart and do some caliper measurements of whatever parts you’re looking for.
@@DIYHelp Thank you.
Great job and information. Have you ever taken the roll pins out off the solenoid cover before?
Thanks. I have not. Just oil and filter cleans and solenoid orings.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Hi, thank you for the video, but after replacing these gears it does not function as usual I mean the mirror does not close and open only can adjust the position of the mirror
Did you find your old gears chipped or cracked? My guess though is motor has gone bad then.
@@DIYHelp hi, yes I found the big one was broken.
Great job. Thank you.
If I just unplug the power from it will that solve the issue? 😂
It won’t fix the problem but yes it will no longer retract and be quiet.
@DIYHelp well I don't have the money or time to fix the problem but if I don't have to disconnect my battery anymore at the cost of not being able to use the mirror button then I'm fine with that
That looks amazing!!! Thanks so much for sharing! Mine looks nasty! Had no idea how to clean it!!! Will be trying this out!!
I just got an exact fit for my 2010 RAV4 from Amazon. Installed in a few minutes. Was less than 40 dollars and looks/fits great.
Any tips? I'm having trouble getting it off. The pry tool keeps bending
is it fundamentally the same procedure for the tachometer? in neutral, mine is jumpy and makes a soft 'grinding noise' even though the engine sounds fine and not jumping.... any acceleration makes the sound go away and the needle doesnt jump.
Yes. That cable is very short and typically not a problem. Mine used to be bad but I had the tach professionally rebuilt and for whatever reason it’s smooth as glass now with no issues. So for me it wasn’t a cable issue.
Thanks for mentioning what to look out for. I just finished the job without any problems, thanks to you.
Excellent video. Best on the topic of cleaning an aluminum threshold that I've seen on YT so far.
Awesome
I’m about to pull my steering rack for cleanup and new gators today and learned a LOT here that I had never considered. Thank you!
Great video!!! I just wasted money buying the cheapest watherstrip for a corolla 2011.... it didn't fit!!!!! I recommend the original parts, they are not cheap but is better
You still ant getting Gibraltar 😅
Nice, great information, now I have to find a video on a 1500 steering column
that looks good dude.....thank you
@DIY Help what year is this? My 07 doesn’t have it.
It’s for second generation. ‘G2’. 2017 and later.
Thanks for making this vid. Hav a 2017 Kia K3 where get grinding sounds when opening right side mirror. Gonna get some gears to replace and see if can fix the issue. Will save some good $. Thanks ago.
Great video u tha man
Thanks. Fairly easy fix once you find the part on eBay. They sell as complete packages costing hundreds of dollars. My rear window motors also went bad several times. Super easy to remove and clean and work like new. No replacement needed. Getting the small springs back in place is challenging but not impossible. I should do a Video on that also.
I bought a 2017 Kia Sedona. Previous owner hit something with morrow and broke the motor that bends the mirror when you shut it off. I’ll work on it:) thx man. Come to Atlanta to visit
Nicely done video that covers the entire rear stud upgrade. Much appreciated by Patton Machine.
Great. Thanks for the feedback. If this is Rick you of course have my permission to link on your website.
Well done. Sure it looks great.
thank you
I came back to say THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! It's pretty straightforward, but honestly, i wouldn't have thought of the tape and marking, which helped out a lot. I'm not even sure if I would have bought the replacement parts since i didn't even know how they were held in place. I bought aftermarket seals for $43 for all 4, and they fit perfectly.
Yes. The aftermarket ones are much more readily available now. Much less than Toyota originals that I used. A lot of people chase trying to find product numbers for parts. These were not particularly easy to find as I recall. But it does help finding aftermarket knowing them.
@DIYHelp videos like this show me that some jobs aren't as hard as I imagine them being. But without videos like this, I wouldn't have ever discovered how quick and easy it could be because I wouldn't have attempted in the first place.
Question: there is a ground strap attached somewhere in the area you are working, # 54 in Moss Motors catalog. Where is it located ?
On the steering rack the only ground is on top under the bolt you pull out to insert a grease nipple for yearly Maintenance.
This exact issue is still there for 2024. Mine is being repaired and luckily I found out only 50 days after purchasing it.
Yes. I tell everyone just do a simple water test before out of warranty. Sucks issue is still going on though.
