- The propsed Season 10 Midseason tank changes looked alarming at first, but the community has run the numbers and while tank recieves some heavy buffs in a few instances, many matchups are nerfed as well. Season 10 will change the entire tank category as well as the tank meta game come May 14.

don't forget that when you cross multiply the armor by 20% of the shield and divide by half the health, everytime you roll a nat 12 or higher your resistance to curses and spiritual pressure is increase by 0.69% your roll.

The word "Rework" has lost all meaning at this point.
Back in my day a rework couldn't be made in workshop/custom games in 10minutes
But it is? These changes make tanks more consistently tankier with the headshot changes, while making it easier to burst down tanks like orisa and hog.

6v6 was a few balance patches away from being fixable instead we gotta deal with random ass changes as the devs frantically try to fix the 5v5 format.
6v6 at it's worst didn't even affect 90% of the player base now the game is messed up all around.
All I want is to play Tank and be able to actually play the game without having all my abilities and chances to make plays neutralized, or just exploding from the DPS passive
Some heroes are definately gonna be more problematic with these changes, hopefully we'll have a lot more viability in the roster and Supports can stop worrying as much about their frontlines being obliterated.
This game has gone through so many role changes it's hard to tell what this game even is anymore.
This is the same kind of player that screamed about OW being “stale” after devs went afk for 3 years during the pandemic… pick a lane. Don’t change the game, or change it often in an attempt to improve it?

I love Reaper, but I can accept that buffing him makes him oppressive. I hope he gets a good "rework" so that his skill ceiling goes up
They had a mode where he had 16 shots from either gun so you could click twice for burst or go left to right for sustained damage, I think that rework would help

I have called headshot damage as a major balancing lever for bring down burst damage. The cc resist is way too much though
They shoulda just put the cc reduction on a single tank or two like rein

Eh idk. I think its a bad idea to not reward someone for hitting a headshot. And honestly a lot of tanks are way too tanky rn, namely ram and other sustain tanks. Mauga to an extent as well in tank trades. I dont think the problem ever was tank survivability itself but a collection of some heroes and abilities that negated way too much tank value, at least the tank value that most people find fun. I think that overall this is a massive mistake, heroes like dva who relied on downtime between dm to have punish angles are going to feel so much more oppresive to deal with. I also think that playing tank itself and being able to trade with the enemy tank effectively will feel selectively worse as well, dva's main strength was the ability to punish and force out dive tank and even brawl tank positioning and I feel like that is pretty gutted. Queen is another issue, the ability to do damage on a frontline trade, which is a big deal, is severely nerfed and I think queen might end up being near unplayable into rein and ram.

So far in my experience, yes the supports have to worry about their own frontline less, but it’s replaced tenfold with worrying about the enemy frontline (tank) walking through everyone, and personally sending you back to spawn on cooldown
While Ramattra's staff will certainly get nerfed (as the tier list showed), his Nemesis Form pummels actually get a slight buff.
Currently, a pummel deals 42dmg against armored targets, but the armor "change" means each pummel now deals 55dmg against them.
On paper, this might mean us Ram players are going back to relying on his nemesis form often.
There could be no headshot multiplier for tanks and they would still melt
So I'm a tank player so hearing that bastion and reaper are somewhat nerfed this patch is nice, but makes me wonder why they'll even be played now? Like these are characters that get little play at higher ranks anyway, and now the one thing they're good at they nerf? I feel like some buffs to other aspects of their kits would have been nice for the bastion and reaper players!
it feels really really worse when you play winston and the enemy go full counter swapping to hog reaper bastion and zenyatta . I guess it is a good patch
Because they’re easy to play, which is important at low ranks. Not every character needs to be viable at high rank.

I just think it'd be better if they had newer, more interesting aspects of their kits that made them a bit more viable outside of the role.of tank busting. Let them keep that identity, but have something else that supplements it and makes the characters more engaging to play and play against!
Mauga v mauga no one will do any damage. Reduced crit damage and massively reduced damage to each others armour 😟
Good. No one likes braindead Mauga gameplay of "shoot the tank all game" anyway. The Mauga players were bored and the non-Mauga tank players found it cheap and miserable to have a tank-buster tank AND tank-buster DPS(es) melting them all game with the bare minimum of aim and cooldown management.
It's always boring around Mauga

It seems like these changes are like the tank version of the S9 changes. The goal of the dps passive and HP increases was to make the overall TTK feel more consistent for squishy heroes but it didn't do much for tanks. The new armor will help against small instances of dmg from high RoF weapons. This is analogous to the dps passive lessening mid combat heals. The old armor changes used to be poor vs big burst like a widow headshot but with the 25% headshot reduction it remains pretty much the same. So they're basically closing the gap between the heavy sustained dmg from sources like Bastion or Tracer and the big bursts like a Widow or Soj headshot. Just looking at the numbers it should help tanking feel more consistent.
You say that JQ will be worse but we need some precision here : het shotgun will be worse, but her knife and her Carnage Ability are going to be way better. Also the possibility to Shout while using her other abilities will help her a lot.
Sometimes i feel like I’m playing a different game from you guys.
Reaper, tracer and other similar heroes were never the problem for tanks. Hitscans are the ones who usually insta kill tanks or melting them.
The armor change serve no purpose other than strengthen heroes who actually caused the problem to begin with.
The headshot resistance should help against those hitscan damage.

@@Ranamon9132 yeah, but when I play tank it's usually never a 1:1 me v Cree... It's usually an Orisa in my face, there is a rat picking on my supports while my DPS' compete on who can die faster. You know, a lot is going on. Sometimes, you lose track of the Reaper or Cree... And boom there he is... Standing behind the horse. Feeding me led... Nice!
while i can understand the thing with some of the characters like cree rolling the fan, thats just not what gm gameplay goes like. Tracer is a constant annoyance in high tier play
Your only accounting armor tanks in 90% of the video characters like sigma are gonna feel invincible on the maps they’re good in and it will still be counterwatch cause it’s not the healthpools that incentivize counterswapping it’s the loop of cooldowns and utility being exchanged

Rammatra nemesis form also wasn't in the chart, nemesis now goes from doing 42 to armor to 55, ~30% damage increase and nemesis has roughly if not the same dps as staff iirc.

Just means more elusive characters that can be able to confirm against back line will be extremely important now so as to keep away from tanks until they are the last ones left... just no reason to take down tanks which i guess is okay.
I like the heal passive change. Armor is whatever either way, hs dmg received being decreased on all tanks feels weird, knockback also feels weird being 50% on all tanks. I'll wait to see it because I bet I'll just be mostly indifferent to it after it's been in the game while.

Im kind of curious about how this will affect hog because regardless of his reduced damage to armor, he still gets a brand new source of damage resist from headshots. Hes so easy to hit in the head and finally wont be hit as hard by soj and other precision burst damage
It’s going to do nothing. None of it fixes the core issue with tanks. And even if it’s fun for tanks it’s going to be less fun for everyone else.

Someone did the math and Illari goes from 75 damage body shot to 79 headshot because of the tank buff. Every patch keeps nerfing her for no reason
79 headshot against tanks. But when a change is applied universally its not as much of a nerf. Every other character on the roster is losing proportionally the same amount of headshot damage vs tanks as well.
Your value to the team should not come from bursting down the tank. You should be landing headshots on the squishes. If you're shooting the tank instead of the squishies, then you need to stop.

Reaper will be nearly unplayable, I'm really hoping they give my old Overwatch 1 main a new ability as they did for Pharah.
The tanks knockback resistance should apply to Roadhog's hook as well. He should not be able to pull tanks the way he does when they're stopping every other tanks' push or pull ability with this passive.

They need to allow ALL tanks to bypass the passive not just hog.
Nope, bad idea. That will make Hog totally unplayable.
Hog's Hook is coded as a stun followed by a set distance reposition. It's not even a CC in the game code. If you want Hog to have a Thresh hook against tanks, the changes needed to make him not throw a fight entirely off of one cooldown not hitting the correct person would make him ungodly strong.
You are missing JQ. She gets a straight 25% dmg reduction buff. It's MASSIVE for her. I think best tank will be Winston. JQ will be gatekept by Rein but i say she is third after rein. Hog also gets this flat buff. Ram will be ass i think. JQ's and Zarya's biggest weakness is they get burst down by headshots. Now they basically have armor against headshots. Big boost for them.
Lifeweaver really needs a rework holysh*t... you barely shot with him anyway but he was good against shields and tanks coming close to him, now he really shoots wet noodles at the enemy... fantastic. I bet Blizz solution to this is giving him even more survivability and heal 🤦♀

Ur first thought should not be how do i kill tank fast but widen that with a space for it depends not just go tank buster or we need things that melt tanks. In fact the whole tier list only exists in a vacuum. These changes will result in more complex matchups just like them having a hanzo doesn't mean u need to go soldier or widow. Nuance.
ana mains will be eating well as DoT damage goes right through ow1 armor.
All these short term changes aren't gonna get us very far... Sure this will make the game more bearable but it's still not addressing the design problems of the actual character kits.
Unless they go all in on doing violent changes with strong direction and vision it will take a LONG time for them to do actual work on the tank experience.
I think everyone is too low on queen this patch, she’s getting a shout buff and sure, she will do less damage against armor, but she is an armorless character so the health rework is a flat buff to her as well.

So what I’m hearing is, if you main Reaper on dps, like me, time to pick a new hero because they made him even *weaker* against one of the things he was always best at. Bursting down dive tanks.

I loved playing reaper, he's by far my most played since OW1. But playing reaper in 2024 overwatch is just painful, it feels like nothing dies all while having to risk being in the enemies faces. He really needs a rework, so for now ill stick to illari and baptiste.

Hot Take: DVA should be removed from Open Queue, shes to good as an off tank. Sometimes i just wanna get on for a few rounds so OQ is the easiest and fastest but man, theres a DVA in every freaking match.

Why would u want to start by shooting a tank as a dive tank? After shield is wittled down by dps u can circle back and attack the no armor tank.

Although, stopping to think about it, Brig armor might be an issue, since she's already a very bad matchup (her ranged boop that can kill your momentum and/or force fireball on a grapple that was not meant to be fireball [so you can cd reset it] has more or less half the cooldown of grapple) and poking her will be even worse now

As a tank main. I promise you that all this patch means, is that after I get slept, naded, hooked, hacked, get my only impact full moment suzu'd and have a bastion turret in my face. The only thing that'll be different now is that I might life for .5 seconds more for one of those cooldowns to come back up. I can't wait

Funny how we can see how OP the 30% OW2 armor was. That was a huge reason why there’s stupid sustain in 5v5. You had huge health polls, 1 less player to heal, plus better healing and burst healing AND 30% damage resistant. 50% cc reduction is so dumb. We had that before in OW1 on rein and that dude would not move. They nerfed it back pretty quick I remember

In my opinion, from patches to new characters to the battle pass, this has been the worst OW2 season yet. It has committed the worst crime a video game can, it's not fun to play.

The reaper re-work will mostly just be less but bigger/more damaging pellets, with a slightly reduced spread

Cool so tank players won't really feel the change much and everyone else gets to feel even more useless against tank, we need to stop pretending having ONE super tank is easier and better to balance than 2 tanks, this doesn't solve the realnissue of tank which is counter swapping, until it's 6v6 again it will always be rock paper scissors, having two can not only give synergy which is more fun but they make up for the others weaknesses and if one tank gets picked its not a completely washed fight.
why does blizzard wait for no reason to put out patches its so annoying
