I have a 06 hhr. Slept in it with no customizations. Excited to see the evolution of this through your videos so I can get some ideas. Keep up the good work dude
I did alot of camping out of my 06 LT, after years of driving horrible MPG trucks and sports cars I found a 08 LT but the panel! I love these videos you're giving me tons of ideas!!
I did the HHR for gasmiles and common car things. I think I am going to do one more road trip in it and do a 4 part video. If you find that interesting let me know. I hope you find some great ideas for yours.
Awesome set up! I just went camping and wish I thought to sleep in the HHR! Doh! The Manual release is behind the oval cover you were messing with. You have to stick I screwdriver up in there and pop the latch. Also, the pop lock only works if the battery works.
The small panel on the hatch has a emergency release but it’s in a terrible spot. Just got an HHR and looking to turn it into a camper car. Great video showing a good base to start on.
Thank you for following through with this second HHR video. My HHR is a 2009 LS. I've purchased roof rails and a rear end tent extension/screen two all season sleeping bags/air mattress, cook stove and general car camping things. Anyway, all good, enjoy. Peace and good to you both. :)
That’s a lot of weight on that racks. Hope it’s ok. A suggestion for more convenient space - get another cargo cover and put it in the upper mounting brackets. It makes a great shelf and you can even leave it up at night and slip your feet under it. These are cool and versatile little cars.
You can pop the truck open from the I side. Pulling out the cover you was playing with. Use a long flat head screwdriver and trigger the switch to open it .. I learned that the hard way when my battery died I had to crawl through the back in order to get the back open so that I could replace the battery..
I had a HHR, same blue color , LT with 2.4 motor not the weaker 2.2 LT1! You should make a rear mount like Jeep’s have for spare tire! I put 335k miles on original motor and transmission! Still strong!
Love hearing that. I have a 2010 I bought new and I have 97000 miles. So far not much mechanical up keep. I drive a 5 speed manual Transmission. Haven't seen to many videos on a setup for these cars. I would love to do road trip in my car, but I want everything in the car. Love my car.
been doing this type of stuff with my 07 ls 5speed 2.2 HHR since it was new. Been the best overall rig ive owned. been coast to coast with mine. its held together with duct tape and a prayer at this point, but its still goin :3
One nice thing about the HHR for roadtrips is the fairly big 16gal gas tank. I'm guessing that was to accommodate the worse mpg if you run e85? Mine has the small 2.2 engine and 5 speed manual and it can do over 500 miles on a tank. Helps to fill up on cheap city gas and then do the entire weekend trip without buying gas in the mountains.
What kind of setup do you have ? When I first started looking at van conversion the only one I show was a man living in his car and it was just full of plastic bags with stuff in them and at night he would pull out a sleeping bag. Not the kind of setup a women who can't live in clutter could travel in.
@@marshanorton6885 just blankets innthe back with a matress foam pad on the bottom. bags behind the seats. inhv my cleanclothes in storage zip bags from dollar tree on pass seat. food on the pass floorboard in a bin. extra stuff laundry under the storage bin in the back. ive travled all over. no one can see me in the panel sleeping. inhave a grey towel drapped over the front seats for privacy
do to my size how i live life. Its been amazing. The past 2 i have owned both blue i got with 50k miles on. So be sure to do timing guides and maintenance before long trips. Many people do no maintain there cars and break blame car for being crap. Learn what is common ton change!
I bought my 2010 new. Been driving it 13 years.97,000 miles and so far not a lot of machanic problems. It's been a good car. I still enjoy driving it. My big complaint is it is a giant blind spot, and I have the dents to prove it.
Nice to see another women with questions. I would love fix up my car to road trip in, but haven't seen any builds like other manufacturers vans. I bought my car because I wanted a car bigger than my Nissan Sentra. As it turns out my hhr is certainly longer then the Sentra, but not any wider.
Im rebuilding the entire front end in a couple weeks... I guess they are known for poor suspension. So I'm wondering how its handling the heavier wheels and tires up there? I might just replace the axles and the hubs too

My man took out the tire, but left the tire iron.
kept tire on roof.
It's the secret tiny doorway into an alternative universe. My goodness I hate that electric hatchway entrance !
Cool beans dude
