I think the Doctor's comment about "needing faith," was to calm the waters. Moffat's an atheist.

There is more then just religious faith, plus a character does not need to be a reflection of yourself - there is certainly more evidence of supernatural powers on the Doctor Who universe.

I personally took it as faith in others, or hope for good outcomes or justice to prevail, more than literal religious faith on the Doctor’s part. It may seem muddy though since he approves of the girl’s religious faith in an afterlife. Faith can be used for evil and as an excuse to be ignorant, as the soldiers clearly demonstrate with their self-inflicted war, but faith also saved them, as the Doctor had faith that somewhere in the father’s AI, a human soul, or at least human attributes of love and protectiveness for his daughter, still lived. I myself am not a religious person, and yet I have faith in my friends and loved ones. Faith in humanity as whole, thought? Check back with me in a decade or so 😉

I really liked this episode! The whole thing about the AI dad taking down the system may have had flaws, but it totally pulled at my parental heartstrings. I also felt like the ambulance bot seemed reminiscent of the librarian bots in the silence in the library episode. It makes sense now that I know they were directed by the same person.

That is a good connection! Yeah creepy human face on a machine. Gotta love a Moffat episode, he makes the best monsters. Yeah the ending was a bit cheesy but I agree it worked and was a very touching.
