Becka, what a marvelous "Name Board" with Teulu's name and hail, you certainly have a trained eye for Art work in the future. We all are praying the 410NM towards the ABC Islands are safe and that these protected waters suit your purpose. Lovely episode and we can't thank you both for all your beautiful footage to date.
Thanks David, she sure does has a keen art eye. Cheers, we have now made it to the ABC's in one piece. Its a really nice feeling to be out of the main hurricane belt 😊
So many sailing youtubers seem to actively court tropical storms. Dramatic storm videos make for lots of views, but it's just dangerous, unnecessary and dumb. So congratulations for a sound decision. In 35 years and 200,000 miles of cruising I have never stayed in a tropical storm area for storm season. I have seen people who do lose their boats. Stay safe.
Normal years, I'd head for shelter on the West Coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. it after 4 years of successive La Nina, we ha e now started into a Year or more of what is looking to be possible Super El Nino. That is a Massive New Wild Card eing dealt imho. So a ery close eye needs to be !ept on Mr Weatherman Channel on RUclips with his Caribbean Weather Forecasts, plus his other RUclips Channel he created specially to cover El Nino - Earth QC. My I stinctive gut feeling is for the time being at least, to avoid the Normal West to East North Atlantic Crossing Route via the Azores, East to West via the Canaries, and head across a bit further South of Cape Verde than is usual until we an see how things are developing, And - as things can be a hell of a lot more stable at latitudes close to the Equator (not necessarily true if things get Really Unpredictable ) and it has to be borne in mid currents can change dramatically as well. Personally, avoiding the Coast close to the Amazon Delta (Huge Termite mounds area, though the Caribbean has serious Termite issues as well - from Florida South really, and nobody wants their Plywood turned into Termite restaurants). Personally I'd head for Northern Argentina, and stock up with Corned Beef, great steaks, and some of the Best quaffing plonk in the World, all of which should be at Sane prices, and worth the trip ? Pacific Side, until information firms up I'd stay close to Eguatorial Latituces as well. If this sounds a bit over Cautious, remember El Nino can change Global Weather Dramatically, and has ended at least one Civilisation - the Moche in Peru, which at the time was larger than Rome's. so prepare with suitable Caution Hence Brian starting his Earth QC Channel. Oh Atlantic Crossing West to East ? I'd be thinking as a backup plan the old Welsh Traders Route ba k from dropping off Slate, Coal etc to Chile and Peru, then loading with Guano Fertiliser, then the South America East Coast up to Northern Arbentina then aim for the Cape Verde islands, but they had to carry a LOT of water, as there were long periods of no Wind in the Doldrums, so a 12v Water maker plus a good diesel engine setup with a very good low rpm propulsion, such as a flexofold, and plenty of Diesel in Main Tanks plus Jugs, would be a very good starting condition to be when at Northern Argentina. tbh that's why my gut instinct is telling me to shelter there, as there is a known good route back across, or if things settle down nicely, back to the Caribbean. Things to think about anyway. Best wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 🤔✨️✨️✨️
Thanks for the information Bob, we definitely have a lot to think about. We will be waiting to see what happens later on this year before we decide on what to do next season. But before that we have a load of things fix/upgrade on Teulu, a water maker is definitely one of them!
@@TeuluTribe There is a great value Watermaker I think Ryan and Sophie Sailing Channel I stalled, but I don't think is has the incredibly efficient pressure stacking Pump used by Spectra for example The Kit available, USA does have substantial benefits, as well as being significantly heaper, uses Components that are commonly and easily available worldwide. But uses a heck of a lot more battery power, which if say stuck in the doldrums shouldn't really matter. There is another option which tbh I haven't seen installed on a Boat yet. I found it by searching for desalination Water remineralisation filters, and some of them have a Desalination Filter as well. But, that Desalination filter can only work for producing 350 gallons or so, which is a fair bit of water, plus if the Desalination membrane filters are cheap enough, could be just carrying Filter spares would be ok. tbh, I think I'll go with the power saving 12v Spectra system if the Budget stretches that far. Best Wishes, Fair Winds and may this El Nino be nothing like as bad as it could be. Safe Travels. Bob . ❤️ 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
Beautiful video, you two. Next time you go to Carriacou, search out Alwyn Enoe, trying to keep alive the hand-building of Carriacou sloops, hand built wooden boats. You can see a beautiful documentary about them called Vanishing Sail, produced by Alexis Andrews. (I have no connection with any of these people, other than racing in that class in the Antigua Classics once in 2008. I just love the boats and the story is beautiful.) I think you would appreciate the story. Keep up sharing your stories, we love them!
Thanks so much. Ah, that sounds incredible and would have been well worth us visiting when we were there (next time though), have you seen The Sailor documentary on RUclips, the chap was also based there!
I Love Zack's expression when he says "Wat"? when Becca is singing about sailing 410 nautical miles. So funny. The video was great, such a beautiful island.
I watched a few of your early videos & then didn't see any for a while - back then it was all about gettin Teulu ready to be seaworthy & having your first tentative sails in UK coastal waters. Now though - WOW! Look how far you've come, and look what an amazing boat you've made Teulu into. You should be massively proud. Well done, the pair of you.
.... you have such a knack for catching the ambiance in your shots .... love the sea state clips too .... haul out in hot temps, now that is determination ..... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....
Thank you for this week's video! Great job! Volcanos are so Fascinating. Maybe thats why we moved on one. "The Big Island of Hawaii " ! Ya'll be careful out there. And when ya'll go though the Panama canal and into the Largest Ocean on the planet. Sail to Big Island and come and visit us here. Ya'll are more than welcome to stay. Ok until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!🌋🥂
Arts and crafts with Becka. A nice addition to my Monday morning coffee with Teulu Tribe. You were filming a commercial Becka. Welcome to Teulu Tribe commercial. Stay safe. Love ya!

Have a good sail to the ABCs! Zach clearly doesn't appreciate the quality singing and adaption of folk songs! Teulu's name board on the wall of the bar looked great! Looking forward to your sail next week!
Thanks Tom! Haha clearly not 🤣 he thinks i have lost the plot! A few more weeks until the sail makes it to YT as we end up spending a bit of time in Grenada!
Best find a cove on the leeward side of an island with mangrove swamp so you can tie off on all four corners of the boat. If that is what you need to do. Great video for sure! a stay safe and fair winds!

Colombia and Panama are also out of the hurricane belt. Colombia has one of the lowest costs of living in the western hemisphere. Santa Marta is lovely, and Tayrona is magnificent.
Hi Both, I just watched this episode and I think that hauling out is much better done on Curacao then on Aruba. Aruba is small with not a lot of facilities and Curacao has so much more other things then just tourism. there are also more boatyards to choose from. We've been on both for quite some time... good luck and fair winds, Rolf sy Rajac
Thanks Rolf for that, we are already booked into Aruba due to the new direct flight to the UK which has just opened. Plus we have friends in the yard, but maybe on the next lap round we will check out Curacao yard 😊
Good call avoiding the east coast of the US. I’ve lived in Georgia most of my life and we’ve seen more than our fair share of hurricanes. Even ones that actually make landfall along the Gulf coast push up through Georgia, “weaken” into tropical storms, re-enter the Atlantic and strengthen back into hurricanes.
Also I'm not sure if they have B1 visitor visas which are required for us Brits to sail in and out of the US. Requires an embassy visit outside of the US. Can't sail in using the usual ESTA system.
Thanks, it was a difficult decision deciding where we would end up. I think our plans changed every few months at the start of the season, but we are happy with our final decision. However, we would love to sail the east coast at some point!
Enjoyed your channel! Just Subscribed.I’m trying to convince my wife that a circumnavigation is a great retirement project and went so far as to even start a little channel (@NavalGazingatCampDavid) to sell her on the life style….desperate times and all that. Lol. Thanks again for the great content. I have a whoooole new appreciation for the time and care it takes to create these episodes!
Cheers, glad you're enjoying it! You've got an intreating channel, my favourite Cat that I've seen is by Daz Cat. Might be worth a consideration... They make some wicked performance cats. Fingers crossed she buys into the idea soon😊
Welcome you two in that mostly independent part of our kingdom of the Netherlands (not in my vision..complete independency!!..but that is another story haha)!! Enjoy and stay safe!!
Being part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, the ABC islands come with typical Dutch-style structural organisation. Meaning everything is well organised, pretty much as they are back in The Netherlands. With Caribbean flavour, meaning everything is not REALLY "like Holland," of course. Curacao can be a bit staid, if ANY place in the Caribbean can be said to be staid. Aruba, on the other hand, is to my mind one of the most likable places in the entire Caribbean. All things considered, the ABCs are a good choice to hole up for the hurricane season. I am Australian so obviously I call them cyclones... Same difference.
I’ve just found your channel and love what you do! I’m currently in the process of moving from Dinghy Sailing to Yachting and am about to do my Day Skipper in a few weeks. What do you recommend to take with you/spend money buying? Also what are your go to for wearing when sailing - I’m used to a wetsuit and still struggling to know what to wear when yachting
Welcome aboard! Thats really exciting, when we first got into yachting we got most of our gear off ebay and facebook marketplace as we didn't really know what we needed and didn't want to spend loads. Wet weather gear, plenty of layers, wooly hat, cap, sunglasses and suncream to start. I would make sure you are prepared for just about any kind of weather as we had a bit of everything on ours. For money I guess it depends if you plan on eating out or cooking on the boat, we did a bit of both as somedays we didn't finish till 7pm and could face cooking😅 I hope that helps.
You guys need a Rocna Anchor, especially now your in the Caribbean for hurricane season. You have been lucky so far with the anchor you have. You will drag badly with that anchor at some point. Just will it be when you are onboard or off exploring the islands.
Thanks Jamie. We have a Rocna too as a spare. We actually love our 40kg Delta. Once it’s set, it’s not budging. The Rocna seems to set quicker but we have had 50 knots happily on our Delta and with 100m of chain and 30m of rode, it would have to be blowing to drag it
The insurance certificate said the ABC islands were not part of the deal? Is that only if the boat was IN the water and OUT of the water is a different scenario?
Good (great?) call staying south for hurricane season! Ga, SC and NC are NOT good options... Once the season ends, Charleston, SC is a great place to visit! (Retired here!)
Most of the time you can get visas on arrival with a British passport. However, we will always look into the visa situation before we arrive at a place. Normally on www.noonsite.com/
Getting out of the Hurricane zone is now, sadly, the only option. Any hurricane holes there might have been have long since been stripped of their mangroves, or are now infested with charter boats, whose owners don't give a tinker's cuss what damage they may do in a storm, to either themselves or other boats. Beating back upwind the 410 miles will be interesting next year! Or does the P word beckon (Panama!)?
It is sad that so many of mangroves have been removed in the past, but its nice that there are some places that are replanting old forests. The P word is on the cards, but you'll have to wait to find out 😉
Hey Guys, I've been following your story since the beginning and you're making an amazing journey. As a marine biologist i've worked with sexual coral reproduction in Curaçao a few years back. This year im planning to go back there for a month in October. If you would like to join some coral spawning night dives i might be able to take you along if you're interested.
Oh that’s awesome. Zach is a marine biologist and would jump at that chance! We will be in Aruba by then so will just need to see if we could get back but will look into it! Thanks!
You kids should have gone to the United States. It's much cheaper to haul out and do boat work than Aruba and very beautiful. Maine is my favorite, but I am partial to Maine cause my daughter lives there
It was on the cards as it looks amazing there. However, we want to see some of South and Central America this year and it was a long way to the east coast.
Curious quick question... why do you say that the name of the boat is TEILI? For me it would read as TEULU with an "U" sound... can you maybe explain in next video? Over radio that might cause some confusion too right?
It’s a Welsh word, so most English speakers would pronounce it slightly differently. It is pronounced Tay-lee, it hasn’t caused any significant problems. We have just learned to listen out for how most people would say the name 😁
8:03 And Zach is lost and does not know what to siiing - so cut to another scene...............! But I would walk 405 NM just see you both AND I would walk 405 NM more.............Just to be -_- #what
This master peace should be a movie star
I see the ghost at 5:34… so glad you put him in x
Such an interesting life!
The longest I ever shacked up, was one winter in a Vermont snow cabin, and no one funded me..,
Kids today !!
Guys, You are living my dream, please be careful with it and enjoy every moment. Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
We wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now 😊 Thank you!
Caught it Becka and "Just to be the man to fall down at your door" Da da dit, Da dit da....LOL!!
haha woohoo! more than Zach can say 🤣

Good (great?) call staying south for hurricane season! Ga, SC and NC are NOT good options... Once the season ends, Charleston, SC is a great place to visit! (Retired here!)
Charleston would have been one of our choices if we sailed north instead of south for the season. We might end up there at some point 😁
@@TeuluTribe Hail when/ if heading here then! I'll take you for the best fish and chips this side of the pond - and a nice brew!
how do you go on about visas for the places you visit
The P word is on the cards, but you'll have to wait to find out 😉
so you didn't go into the shipwreck to investigate if there was a dead body?
Peaked in, don’t think there was a person in it 🤣
🤟😳👍...
I don't know how you guys survive without a bimini
It's coming soon, I don't know how we do it either....
"...just to BEEE the boat that sailed 820 nautical miles to anchor off your shooOOOOooore."
Cheers😁
You scared me
Sorry about that😅
Hey Guys, I've been following your story since the beginning and you're making an amazing journey.
It’s Welsh! Means Family.
It’s a Welsh word, so most English speakers would pronounce it slightly differently. It is pronounced Tay-lee, it hasn’t caused any significant problems. We have just learned to listen out for how most people would say the name 😁
Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy😎

Hahah yup 😆 aw too kind. We can walk 405nm together!
You guys need a better microphone 🎤
The jack in our camera is broken at the moment and it’s been a nightmare to try and get it fixed out here, but we are working on it, promise ☺️
We are trying to get the issue fixed, sorry about that.
I see you found trimaran Dawn! Hope you ran into Arie. @LivingontheOcean - a very unique individual with a boat to show it
Unfortunately we didn't, I'll have a look at their channel now. Cheers😊
