The 2018 Steelers had a pretty bad collapse, but it was nothing compared to the 2018 Panthers. They started the year 6-2 and finished with a record of 7-9 thanks to a 7-game losing streak.

As a lifelong Redskins fan, the 1978 season always sticks in my craw. However, the 1996 Skins started out 7-1 and fell to 9-7 and no playoffs. Darrell Green said around mid-season. "This team is not that good." (as their record would indicate at that time) As a player who had been through the wars for over a decade at that point, he knew what a playoff and Super Bowl team were all about. And he was exactly right.
Speaking of 1978, there were three collapses that season, not just the Skins.
The 1978 Packers started out a very surprising 7-2 and looked to be the '78 version of the '77 Orange Crush Broncos. But they stumbled badly down the stretch and finished 8-7-1. With that tie coming against the Vikings, which in the end cost them, since the Vikings also finished 8-7-1 and won the division due to tiebreakers.
1978 also featured the most famous "Collapse Play" of all time. The 1978 Giants started out an also very surprising 5-3. They started stumbling after that, and of course, the roof really caved in on them thanks to the Miracle of the Meadowlands. A play that probably had more multiple team-wide implications than any other. They finished 6-10, the entire coaching and front office staff was fired and they drafted some small college QB from Moorehead State the next season. Somebody named Phil Simms.

Similar to the 2021 Cardinals. Start 7-0 which included blowout wins over the Titans and Rams on the road and looked like world beaters with the #1 scoring offense(they were averaging 30 points a game), then they had the heartbreaking loss to GB because AJ Green didn't turn around and it was all down hill after that. They finished the year 11-6(which included losses to the Panthers and Lions), lost a playoff home game by losing the last game to the awful Seahawks, then get embarrassed in the playoffs by the Rams.

The Vikings are the biggest choke ever. Not just season wise but playoffs.
1987 NFC Championship: Dropped the ball at the goal line- Redskins go on to win the Super Bowl.
1998 NFC Championship: Gary Andersen missed his first kick in 2 years and blew a 7 point lead with only minutes left.
2009 NFC Confrence Championship : Brett Favre gets picked off in field goal range with seconds left on the clock. Saints win in overtime.
Also there have been 2 years we have went at least 5-0 and missed the playoffs
2015 Wild Card: Blair Walsh misses a kick losing to Seattle 9-10
2018 Playoffs: We blew a 17 point lead and we were lucky to get out of that game alive and the proceeded to lose 31 to the Eagles
Also we traded our entire future for ONE PLAYER. Which gave the Cowboys their dynasty.
And can't forget losing 4 super bowls in the 70s
Edit: Also we haven't had a franchise QB since the 70s. Every Quarterback we either trade, is a guy like Tavaris Jackson, Christian Ponder, or Mat Cassel, gets injured, or is some QB in his last seasons (looking at you Favre and Cunningham).
P.S: It hasn't been all that bad... one year we made the playoffs at 8-8 and beat the Packers in the Wild Card game and Randy Moss mooned the fans and Lambeau. Now THAT was awesome

@PleebsOG Saying this is historically tragic is either not remembg anything of that time period or being extremely dramatic. That Giants team won their division so they were a WC team; they were dangerous because they began 6-2 had a huge slump to drop to 6-6 and then snapped out of it to go 9-7 and win their division. Same team beat the Patriots during the season and lost to third Pack team in the slump 35-38.
I’m not sure how it’s possible to say that about a team that began 6-2, snapped out of their slump before it cost them their season, and then finished 7-1. The team wins their division and then in the playoffs as the four seed play the toughest option possible at each round as they beat the falcons and don’t let their offense score, beat the 1 seed packers on the road, and then beat the Niners who were the 2 seed in the road in overtime.
Then they win the whole thing against the Pats who were the 1 seed. This also happens to be the same team that not many seasons prior as the 5 seed won every single game on the road and then beat the undefeated Pats squad so how that ever been seen as tragic when we have literally seen this same team do this exact thing before? And how are you shitting on losing to a wild card team, who wasn’t a wild card team, when this 15-1 Packers team is one of the greatest examples of how misleading it is to judge a team all on a record. Think back on things from the packers from the season right before this one. They were the 6 seed who into the postseason on a tie breaker because they beat the giants in their second to last game head to head. Then if you recall this packers squad became the second 6 seed in history to win the Super Bowl. You may also want to resell that they may have been 10-6 that season but they did not trail by more than 7 points that entire season in 2010. The six losses they had were by a total margin of 20 points. If you’re going to claim any team was an all time mess up for losing against a team who didn’t have a pretty record it doesn’t make a good argument if not only was the team that beat them the one that won the entire thing but it’s even worse of an argument when the team you’re shaming just won the superbowl as the 6 seed and are possibly the best team sample of how a team can be way better or way worse than their record may portray them being.

And then one fateful day the Ravens crushed the historic defense and the Pats ended the season 4-4, and losing the #2 playoff seed to the future SB champ cheifs in a home-loss to the 4-11 Dolphins that had started the season tanking. They then capped it off by losing in the playoffs in the first round to the #6 seed 9-7 Titans, with Tom Brady's last throw a pick-six and him becoming a free agent and leaving New England. It was a pretty ugly and sharp turn they took in late October to early November.
