The personalities change, but their despicable policies don’t. That’s why it’s imperative on the nation this year, this decisive year, to chuck out the Tories from office in the forthcoming general election.
Just how out-of-touch the Tories are with the rest of the country was once again revealed this week when the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, claimed that collecting £100,000 a year is “not a huge salary.”
In his constituency of South West Surrey residents expressed disbelief. One of them, Merve Topaloğlu, told The Guardian, “I felt like I must be from another galaxy when I heard it.”
Merve, it’s the Tories who are from another galaxy, or at least, should be sent to one (more on that on Monday).
After 14 years of Tory misrule, it’s time for a sea change. Yes, I know many are disappointed with Labour’s offering so far - me too - especially their apparent support for Brexit.
But with our antiquated voting system of first-past-the-post, only the Tories or Labour can be the next UK government. So, it must be Labour. We cannot endure more Tory mayhem.
Undoing the terrible damage inflicted by the Conservatives on Britain will probably take many steps over many years. Labour will offer at least one or some of those steps. We must grab that opportunity.
Here’s a reminder of how low the Tories sink.
On this day on 30 March 2022, I reported on how a senior Conservative, the MP for North Herefordshire, Sir Bill Wiggin, told the then Prime Minister, Boris Johnson:
"We want Ukrainians, we want Qataris, we don't want people in rubber boats”.
Added the former Shadow Minister for Agriculture & Fisheries, “Why can’t we get the right people through our immigration system, instead of the wrong ones?”
Mr Johnson agreed. Well, he spluttered agreement, unable to easily string two words together. To think, some Tories want him to return as their leader. Heaven help us!
Yes, people are worried about the numbers of people risking their lives across the English Channel to reach the UK to seek asylum. They are mostly poor, destitute, refugees fleeing from war and terror.
Watch the video. It’s clear the Tories instead want rich Qataris to come here, visa free. “These are very wealthy people, unlikely to stay,” proclaimed Sir Bill.
The Tories don’t care about poor people, whether they’re here or want to come here. They represent the rich and privileged. Their mates are the rich and privileged. They ARE the rich and privileged.
And the result? Britain is broken by political misfits who don’t care for Britain or Britons. Only by removing them from power can we start the repair.
