Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying our hike. I always wanted to backpack but couldn't do much. I raised 8 children, worked full time and didn't have the time or money. When retired it was to care for my son who was drying of cancer. The next tens years I spent doing want my husband wanted. He loved to travel but not backpack. He passed away a year and a half ago after a 13 year battle with cancer. Now I have the time but sadly severe DDD, osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis have left me lucky if I can walk 100 feet. So my friend, I have walked the AT with you and the PCT and loved it. Thank you for taking this old lady along.
Cheer up, Dixie..you really have about 125 miles more to get our of the northern edge of the Sierra. Once you get through and past Burney Fallls, Susanville, and Lassen, enter into Modoc county, you will be officially in,the Siskiyou mountains, till you get up to Crater Lake,,on to the Cascades..that's the way us native Californians were taught..just love your videos, keep, your chin up and good attitude..sending you the best ..Frank T., ( California native)
Hey Dixie! Loving following your journey! You are kicking ass!!! Super proud of you girl. The purple flower is an Iris! It's called a Rocky Mountain Iris. Also...I get what your saying about not remembering the pain and only the good parts. I haven't done a thru-hike, but there's always some pain involved with backpacking and after the trip is over...I've usually already forgotten about that. Keep killing it!
After the difficult hiking even the feet looked great. I'm 71yrs old and really admire what you do and the folow up videos after the bike such as you made after the AT bike.
That was fun Dixie. Your editor must enjoy making these, as when, you were talking about the peace and quiet of the mornings and then swallow a bug, the music stops and you cough trying to clear your throat. He's great and so are you. Really enjoying following you along the trail. I see you in Tomas Man's videos too. He's a real determined soul too. Have good day tomorrow.
Hi Dixie, Just wanted to say that I've been watching you since your ACT adventures. Love your channel! I've never commented here before. But, with your comment comparing your experience to child birth in this video; I just had one of those..."were all connected" moments. I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant, anticipating the arrival of our baby girl. Not able to do much (or go anywhere) bc just getting around the house is a workout. I rediscovered your channel just as my need for being outdoors has really kicked in. Not only have you've saved me from feeling claustrophobic, with your gorgeous shots and kick ass adventures. Its amazing to me that in this video of all (just as I'm within a week of delivering) you compared what your experiencing to child birth. I've been mentally preparing. I know this adventure were heading into will be like no other. So, for now I'll be embarking on the adventure of motherhood while preparing my hiker legs for some serious Backpacking and perhaps some thru hiking in my future. Thank you for being not just a great person to watch on RUclips. But, an amazing woman/hero to look up to. I hope I can be that great of example to my daughter. Cheers, Maya
This is my backyard playground; living in the Carson City area. It's fun to see familiar sights in your video. The wildflowers you walked through are in the Meiss Meadows area; one of my favorites. We were up there a couple of weeks ago for a quick overnighter. Beautiful area for snowshoeing/cross country skiing also. Love your videos. I will be having my son watch them; he's wanting to do the PCT next summer. You are now north of Burney Falls (according to another person's post). That means you're past the half way point. Congratulations. Safe hiking!
Dixie.... Good video, again. The buffet and South Lake Tahoe sounded delightful. Hope the trail is all downhill from here, LOL and the wind stays at your back. You remain in our prayers. Stay safe. AX
You seriously don't know how much I look forward to your video's. I'm Missin the trail life, stuck in reality. But your video's give me something to look forward to. Thanx
Hey Dixie, Early Riser addressed what he called an "accountability rock or log". It functions as a method to help not leave anything behind. It is mentioned in the first few videos of his AT through hike trip this year. It makes a lot of sense.
I was genuinely sad seeing the lost snow cone but glad you're safe on the other side of those mountains. Great job! Enjoy the next section of your hike.
Congratulations!!! You've finished the Sierras, did a 26 mile day, and accomplished an all you can eat buffet! Amazing! Yes, those are wild irises. I have them here in Colorado at about 9,000 feet. Beautiful wild flowers! Good luck on the next leg. Be safe on that snow. :-) Can't wait for the next vid. Thank you SO much for taking us along.
Karen W Nope, not out of the Sierras yet......not until Fredonyer Pass, about 170 miles north of Lake Tahoe, just southwest of Susanville. Could be that she's on the part of the PCT that veers to the west in order to avoid all the logging operations north of Fredonyer Pass.
@4:30 that was some pretty perfect comedic editing. Awesome to see you getting up into my part of the world. Hope the hike is still going well, keep at it! Been loving this series, and its incredibly inspiring to see this journey unfold. Thanks Dixie!
Wow! My old stomping grounds. Lake Tahoe, Desolation Wilderness,Carson Pass and Hope Valley. You are awesome. Thanks for taking us along. I'm hiking the PCT beginning in November. Section hiking the Southern Cali desert in Fall, Winter. Happy trails...🙏
Congrats on crushing the Sierras in a crazy year! Every Nobo we passed we thought was just about the toughest of the tough. No exception here. LOVE your videos, thank for making them!
Dixie, I met you at Burney Falls when I was dropping Naptime back for his through hike. I gave one of the guys you were with a mango. I had been watching your posts which made me feel better about his trip since I had no clue what he was seeing or doing. I want to thank you because your videos brought 'his world' into my comprehension. It also got me up on the AT to pass out trail magic.
you make me smile girl, gratz on finishing the Sierra's, I did the AT thru hike twice and had thought of doing the PCT in my older yrs, as in the next few years. Well found out I have CHF. so doing the 2900 mile Kayak trip. Watching you do this hike though makes me want to do it despite my condition LOL.. Keep the Vids coming.
I just started watching your videos about 2 weeks ago and noticed you wear your headphones in one ear. If you go to settings, general, accessible you can change audio to mono and volume to ear you're listening on so you get all the sounds from that side. You might know this but wanted to jump ahead in videos in case you don't! Thanks for the awesome information you're sharing!
Thanks for sharing your adventure, along with all of it's awesome natural glory. Those of us who can no longer hike the trails are grateful to those of you who make it possible for us to still enjoy the experience through people like you... many many thanks : )
Hey Dixie you still have many miles of the Sierras. They are beautiful and enjoyable. Youll be able to use that tenkara rod as the truckee river has an abundant trout population and as you go further north there is the sacramento river to cast a line in. Good luck through the rest of the Sierras.
Gregg Christensen Yes, I agree......she's still in the Sierras, as the official end is at Fredonyer Pass, just southwest of Susanville. She has about 170 miles remaining of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. BTW....Fredonyer Pass is just past the halfway point of her thru-trek.
Seriously can't get over those views! Dixie, you have inspired and encouraged me more than you know with your positivity and grit. Hoping and planning to do the PCT in 2019!
Another fantastic vid. I so look forward to your weekly postings. Keep putting one foot in front of another. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Much love from North Carolina.
I so enjoy your video's. It's as if we right there with you. And I am amazed at the quality of the video's as well. Very nice scenes and good editing. Thanks for taking us along.
Congrats on conquering the Sierra 2017! Certainly wasn't easy but well worth the effort! Thank you for sharing. Great video and great narrative as well. Heading to the Wind Rivers, so will miss the next couple weeks haha!
Were you able to see any part of the Eclipse? We traveled to the totality line and it was so worth it! Awesome experience. Hope you got to see at least a bit of it.
Leaving trekking poles a mile behind in Yosemite led us ever since to say out loud after every stop on the the trail, or leaving the gym or a hotel room, "Yosemite check!" Haven't left anything since.
Keep it up girl, great video & beautiful scenery. You are so close, going to be sad when there won't be any vids to watch. Man those are huge sceeters! 😳 stay safe 👍🙏love & peace
Love your video's. But the Sierra mountains do not end at Lake Tahoe. They end just south of Lassen Park. Lassen is the first volcano in the Cascade range.
Watch out for poison oak in the lower elevation, especially in the northwest. On the bright side, it is blackberry season and they grow wild all over Oregon and Washington!
I have had a really good time following your trip. There bits of Central Oregon closed due to Fire but they will hopefully be back open by the time you get here... if I can help let me know. =O)

Jan B i feel this having a similar trek. Much love xx
I think your producer/editor has a real future - love the peaceful morning/cut to gnat swallowing...

This grandma is rooting for you Dixie. You are keeping safe and making it happen one step at a time! Can you hear the cheers?
The wildflowers at about 10:45 are Irises. One of my favs.

My son did the PCT last year. Knowing that your mom is watching these videos, thank you for putting on your spikes! I know what she is going through.

4:31 I broke out laughing. The music buildup and cut was perfect! :)
I live along Hwy.88/Carson Pass Highway. It was cool to see the trailhead on video that I have driven passed many times.
Thanx
The only problem with your videos is that they end. You're doing such a great job. Keep it up.
Yes! Those are Wild Iris! We have them here in the high country of Co. Best of luck heading to Canada!
The Sierras go all the way as north as Feather River. You can expect snow for a bit longer.
Love love love these videos. It is my dream one day to hike both the AT and the PCT. Be safe Dixie. Fair winds and following seas.
We are so lucky you can bring us along with you. Awesome job Dixie. Ron here in SC
LOL at 4:30 - protein! Good job not getting sucked into the town vortex. Awesome video as usual.
Hey Dixie, Early Riser addressed what he called an "accountability rock or log". It functions as a method to help not leave anything behind. It is mentioned in the first few videos of his AT through hike trip this year. It makes a lot of sense.
Great to see all the water in the mountains.
Gorgeous again! Dixie the flower you liked, similar to Iris is called, Blue Flag. Rock on lady!!
Don't take this the wrong way, I don't want your adventure to end. Love every episode...
I was genuinely sad seeing the lost snow cone but glad you're safe on the other side of those mountains. Great job! Enjoy the next section of your hike.
At 4:30, that is a beautiful, hilarious use of cutting music. Great editing.

Put a loop in end of guy line, put tent peg through, then jam peg behind two rocks.
Wow. What an adventure. Unbelievable journey. Thank you.
Watched twice. So beautiful! Thanks, Dixie. You're the best!

Love these mountain meadows!
You sure show some beautiful country. Love your videos.

Your honesty is awesome and admirable, keep on keeping on!
Were you able to see any part of the Eclipse? We traveled to the totality line and it was so worth it! Awesome experience. Hope you got to see at least a bit of it.
I just love following your adventure! Thank you for sharing it!!
NOBO, Go Dixie, Go! Keep safe. Thank You. Enjoy Life!!!
After I stop for a break I always turn around and check that I didn't forget or drop anything before a start off again.
You could also tie one or two lines to small trees
Leaving trekking poles a mile behind in Yosemite led us ever since to say out loud after every stop on the the trail, or leaving the gym or a hotel room, "Yosemite check!" Haven't left anything since.
Great videos Dixie. It would be cool if you could show on a map were you where each week. Hope you enjoy Wa. when you get up here.
That looked like the best buffet I have ever seen... Oysters, Crab legs ...
Nice filming. Keep pushin', Woman! Good job. Stay safe, have fun.

That's some kind of iris. If you haven't found out the kind of flower it is. Great trip.
hope that's only dirt on your foot, not cuts /injury!
I love outdoor!
Awesome accomplishment, keep on trekking!
Way to go conquering the Sierra's!!
I have had a really good time following your trip. There bits of Central Oregon closed due to Fire but they will hopefully be back open by the time you get here... if I can help let me know. =O)
