    Would be neat to do an interview with Milestone and see the things she brings for Ragnar. Loved the interview with Perk a few videos ago, it gave veey good points for those bringing glasses!

    You have very wise words about education. I've pondered them recently as my son struggles to find his path in life. I myself think on it as I sit here with 2 degrees and sitting behind a computer all day. There's gotta be something more than this!

    That’s an amazing video and even better life lesson Dixie. You are so very blessed. I am old man Dixie and can therefore tell you that each step you are now taking is actually rushed and yet so very precious - these steps will remain with you forever and likely serve a greater purpose in your life you may not yet realize. You are answering. The question “why” before our eyes as well as yours and I know how meaningful it really is.. thank you so much for sharing sweetheart.

    Squirrels with Fear of Heights are called Ground Squirrels. :) I have found that I have never been happy following someones else's idea of a perfect life for myself. Not saying I did not try to be what others thought I could be, or ought to be, Just never found happiness following their advice. So Dixie you are not corrupting, but planting a seed in fertile fields. "Be who you find yourself to be, Not what other's think you should be."

    I live in Pennsylvania and have made one visit to Oregon/Washington. I was in Portland with my wife and we drove over the Bridge of the Gods, saw the PCT on the Washington side, parked, and we walked the first 100 yards or so from the road. "And I don't care what anybody says. We hiked the Pacific Crest Trail." :)

    Always love the videos and this is just another great one. Man I can't believe this is coming to an end. This will be the second thru hike that I have watched all your videos. I remember watching your first video when starting the AT and how nervous you were, almost crapping twinkies and saying "Well here it goes, I'm gonna do this." Can't wait for CDT videos.

      @rafedavis935 7 лет назад

      Michael, I'm 51, a minute ago I was 21. I'm about to retire in good financial shape. I graduated college, and I'll be the first one to say college is overrated and unnecessary unless you have the dedication and academics to be a doctor, engineer, etc.... Living like a gypsy in a van seems romantic to 20 somethings, but it will suck when those 20 somethings are in their fifties and sixties (or older), and they don't have a pot to piss in. I agree, find something in life that interests them, but they have to plan for the future. You know what I'm going to do after I retire? I'm going to renovate a van, travel around and do section/thru hikes, and I won't have to worry about where my next meal comes from or if I get sick. Just make sure your kids understand that. Just saying.....

      @jilltanner1222 7 лет назад

      Rafe Davis...excellent points! It is great for those fortunate enough to be able to make a living while hiking, or painting, or whatever makes one happy. Very few are actually able to pull that off. Balance is always good. The future comes quickly and when one is older it becomes very difficult to turn that financial "ship" around. Living does require money and most time more of it as we age and have challenging health concerns and living arrangements. I agree there is more than one way to live this life. Living in reality, tempered with chasing dreams. Life throws lots of curves...grab joy where you can and work hard while you're able.
      Dixie, I have loved following you. Your videos add value to this world, you are one of America's treasures. God bless you as you travel and share.

    • @michaelsagehorn8873
      @michaelsagehorn8873 7 лет назад

      Rafe, I'm 58 and after graduation became a Marine officer. My point about "chasing dreams..." is- 1) make sure you know what they are. 2) Pay for them yourself 3) Recognize that discomfort is usually temporary and 4) Have a plan to be independent. Don't think the government should/will take care of you. Understand your point.

      Yup it's "old man's beard" aka usnea. I knew it was medicinal so I looked it up to see what it was good for, and this is according to WebMD:
      Usnea is used for weight loss, pain, fever, and wound healing, and to make phlegm easier to cough up. Usnea is also used directly on the skin for sore throat and for athlete's foot.

    Yup... Big applause for everything specially for the speech at the minute 16:35... That concept lead me to quit all my projects and put me to work as a dog walker, that means working with no human beings, hiking sureded by a pack of dogs, walking them 120 blocks a day, training for hiking all the year and as it would be few, people pays me for that...and well...that it´s equal to HAPPINESS for a hiker trash like me. Congratulations miss Mills your concept of hiking and packing are, in my opinion, the best ones in between ultralight and stoveless and "bringing heavy gear that deserves to be carried"

    The milky water is glacial melt water that suspends a lot of minerals in it. It safe to drink when filtered but it's super minerals. Not sure how your kidneys would feel after if the didn't filter it all out. Thimble berry leaves are good for tp up there if you run out of tp. Not as briilopad-ish as the lichen. Lol. When I was in Italy, everyone walks everywhere. They sell these toe bandages that rock. They are basically a mini ace bandage that slips over the individual blistered toe/s and has gel in them that cushions the blister after it's been popped cuz I had blisters on my blisters. These things saved my toes and can be rinsed out and worn over and over. The gel never wore out after two weeks of wearing the same one. I bought more on Amazon for future hikes and long walk scenarios

    So great that you got to hike through Mount Adams! Mt. Adams is one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the OR/WA Cascades, and is the second largest behind Mount Shasta (by volume)-even if Mt. Rainier "appears" larger to the eye.
    I've hiked on most Cascade volcanoes and there is almost no comparison to Mt. Adams. I've hiked on Baker, Rainier, Jefferson, Three Sisters, Shasta, Washington, St. Helens, Goat Rocks, Crater Lake, and Hood. The best scenery on Mount Adams is above the PCT, sometimes off-trail. Places like High Camp, Devil's Garden, and the Riley Creek basin/lakes.

    First off this video represents my dream hiking environment. Mountains and lush forests. Second I 100% agree with your views of youth and education. I work in a school district doing dropout prevention and reengagement. So many of the young people I work with feel like or have been told that there’s only one path for success. Sometimes I feel like I’m the first person in their life that had told them ‘NO’ there are countless other paths for you to take. So yeah thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    Corrupt away! Your message at the end needs to be heard by more people. I work at a college and wonder why so many of our students are here without any reason as to why other than they were told the next step after high school is to attend college. We need more folks who can do something with their creative natures than just sit in front of a computer all day. Working with our outdoor program, I hope to continue with the message you ended this clip with. Thanks so much for seeing that other opportunities are out there for young people.

    I know someone mentioned in the comments on your last video that you would be great as a motivational speaker. But also, your photography and your editor's skills combine to make a marketable commodity of beautiful videos... Sell that skill to local businesses, realtors, tourism commissions and produce videos. Make a photography book on the PCT. Re-edit your videos into an hour long documentary you could sell, or get local public television to pick up.... You've got options!

    And here I am stuck in my city and full of anxiety because after years of trying I still haven't finished my degree. I'm just too anxious to do it all. One day I am going to hike the PCT (or the AT, still have to decide which one) even though it's on the other side of the world and I have never really hiked before. Nature has always been fascinating to me but I feel i am so out of touch with it because there is no real nature around where I live. I think I would be so much better at hiking than I would at doing some stupid research noone cares about.
    i've been loving these video's Dixie! They are a welcome escape from the obligations of daily life right now :)

    With far to many children now copping with outside deficit disorder.
    I've had my own struggle getting kids to disconnect from the matrix and reconnect with being with other children outside.
    Doing your videos and giving presentations at schools sounds like a great idea.

    That water is cloudy because it was glacier run off. It scrapes the minerals off the rocks as it melts and is full of dissolved particles that don’t kill you if you drink it once in awhile but it will vlog your filter and probably your kidneys if you drink it unfiltered all the time. Mount Adams has a pretty sizable glacier so that probably explains that water. I think that part of the world about the most stunning. I grew up there and loved it. My only backpacking trip was on mt St. Helens before it blew and before it was a huge tourist destination. I want to hike goat rocks as an overnighter one day soon.

    Great moral speech at the end. Far too many people start out with “the program” and only too late find out it’s shallow, or that it doesn’t suit them.
    So instead of letting others people program you into their ideas because it suits them, I find it better to ask: What can you work for, and really believe in, that can take all the abuse this life will make it go through? And you can still believe in it and work for it?
    When you can see the answer to that, you have something to do.

    I totally agree, I have worked with my hands my entire life. But am also very computer literate. I started working fulltime at 16 as electrician apprentice. I dropped out of high schooll to work. I dont recomend that to anyone. I have been back to community college and I read a ton of books. I'm 61 now manage a small business and dream of the day I can hike a thru hike. Everyone must chose their own path, don't let someone choose it for you.

    I love your outlook on life, Dixie! I wish I had met someone like you when I was younger, who would have shown me a different path, and that I had done the things you are doing when I was younger. I seemingly had no imagination of my own. So, thank you for "corrupting our youth". They will be better for it, to be shown there are different paths, or trails, in this case, to follow. LOoking forward to the last leg of your journey on the PCT, and hope you beat the snow, although something tells me you saw some. I live west of the PCT near Mt Rainier, which is 50 miles from where the Norse Creek fire was/still is, as far as I know. I waved as you passed by😜

    Dixie!
    Other than the actual trail and perhaps the higher ground in manning Park, you wont see any snow of significance until Vancouver/Victoria...and those don't come until January or later normally. Last year Victoria proper go no significant snowfall.....The Pacific keeps it warm here! ;)
    Anyway, I can see Glacier Peak and MT Baker from my living room...will let you know if I see a jack load of snow.
    Go get Canada!

    Your comments concerning Life Choices, are very true. It seems that the last three lines of the Robert Frost poem ~ The Road Not Taken ~ came to define my life. And thinking back..., I believe that I am all the richer for it, in ways that no amount of money could ever replace. 'Be CAREFUL, Out THERE'!! Godspeed, my dear. CANADA is Yours!
    P.S. Ya got to just love, 'Wildman Perk'! He just cracked me up, crossing that 'Shaky Bridge' ~ At NIGHT!!

      Keresa Harder it was not so much the events of Terminus but that was the point I lost interest. I saw a few of the next episodes but I quit normal entertainment. What I can chromecast on my tiny tv from youtube is all we watch now. I would rather watch real people doing real things like Dixie or learn something, than to just be entertained.

      A Jay oh I do! We just finished the Berg Lake Trail. We have plans to do the Jaun da Fuca trail next and we will get back to Berg Lake and Snowbird pass for a 10 days next July. We just can't do a through hike like this at the stage of life we are in with our family circumstances. But yes we should be getting out and having our own adventures. 🏕️ Dixie's journey has been a privalage to watch. She is genuine, funny and knowledgeable.
