One year ago I released American Tennessee and this marks the anniversary of a new era for me, both in music and in life. I wrote this song as an escape during 2020 when I was faced with a whole load of issues, insecurities, wrongs and falsehoods both internally and externally that I had allowed to just fester for most of my life. To me, this was a song of hope, that things didn't have to stay this way. American Tennessee was also my first real collaboration in music with someone who seemed to really 'get' my sound. Patrick Jordan produced this track and I'll admit I cried when he emailed the mix, because for the first time I heard my music the way I heard it in my head but could never quite realise. Since releasing American Tennessee I feel as though I have taken huge steps in songwriting, finding a sound I love but also, caring less about what I think people expect me to do and doing what I love to do...and I know I'm not even halfway there. I have so much more to write. I had to rush the music video for American Tennessee because we were in the middle of moving house, so the original music video has missing scenes and replaced scenes that I was never happy with. I wanted to take the opportunity of this 1 year anniversary to release a re-edited version of the music video, a Director's Cut if you will, with extra scenes we filmed later, that I hope places the song in a better context.
