I totally had a yoshi web pet. Sure enough, I neglected it and it got taken away. You could choose which fruit to give them as I recall, and just like the game it corresponded to their color and favorite fruit. If you ignored it for even a day, it would get sad. But sometimes I'd check and it would be happy for no reason. I didn't really figure out how it worked before I got bored with it, but they just used the renders of the Yoshis. I remember when you reset you would get a random color.
yoshi's island just never brought me the happiness and wonder and honestly like genuine whats the word im looking for, internal peace? or security? that yoshi's story did,its really hard to explain but im glad to see im not alone in preferring it to yoshi's island
I find it crazy that it wasn’t so well established with the community. I played all the yoshi spin offs. And black yoshi was my favorite! I loved this game so much and couldn’t wait to play it everyday after school
This is such an incredible video! I’ve never played Yoshi’s Story, but I enjoyed every second of this video and everything was super well explained! I also really like how this iceberg doesn’t pull the cliche of having weird and unexplained analogue horror-like entries at the very bottom. This is by far, the best iceberg video I have seen. Also, it really helps that your voice is super chill in soothing to listen to. I really hope your channel blows up soon!
I used to have that Yoshi Tag-and-Run toy! As a kid, I didn't know what it was for, so my parents wrapped him around my seatbelt in the car so I could have something to distract myself on long car rides.
I remember the web pets, but not anything more than you said. Official renders of the Yoshis that you feed. Cheap attempt at imitating Neopets, so much so that I forgot it was an official Nintendo website and assumed it was something third-party and unofficial.
One thing I definitely remember is that when a Yoshi was hungry the website used the ground pound render, because that was the closest thing the renders had to an "I'm upset" face.
Bruh!!! That McDonald’s yoshi toy tho wtf!!! I was literally thinking about it before clicking this video and you just happened to put it into your video man! No way that earned you a sub! Such nostalgia
Dude this game was kinda groundbreaking. Cool new mechanics, new art style, challenging but not too hard, full of easter eggs, puzzles to solve, areas to explore, plus a soundtrack that's just *chef's kiss*.
Mmmmnah. If you played Yoshi Story the meant it's supposed to be played(find all melons) then you could see why Yoshi's Story is mediocre in comparison.
I'm so glad this game has its own big clean iceberg with stuff I didn't even know. I totally agree with the response to this game it's stupid. That stupid mature edgy bs is why we got Bad Fur Day instead of Twelve Tales which is now highly regretted on 20 years later with people realising more that the main adventure in bad fur day kinda fucking sucks and Twelve Tales looks way better. As for things I'd add to this iceberg: Along with the infamous unlock purple Yoshi rumor I also heard talk of unlocking brown Yoshi too (I'd also personally move those two way up higher on the chart along with the fruit by the foot). There were also much more obscure rumors of getting a gold Yoshi which I had on the n64 mystery iceberg. Also idk if it's still up or how easy it'd be to find but I remember watching a RUclips video of someone showing that a different special message appears at the end of the game after getting a really high score (it might've been like 30000). Lastly I can confirm the cover of the manual actually has a fabricy texture to it. It's really cool lol.
19:30 was a huge flashback I just stared at wide-eyed. I forgot I had this toy as a kid, and my sister made a little song about it. "Make the puppy dog, make him go to his room", every time our pet dog was let into the back yard, when we called him back in we would sing this song as he was going through the door.
12:36 I had a feeling that other fruits besides melons could trigger the alternate level ending, but I never saw it myself since the only levels I pulled it off regularly were the final ones. You would only get to hear the beginning of it before you would have to fight the boss.
I remember reading those Club Nintendo comics back in the day. Whenever I was in a store that had them, I would check the magazine out and take on with me. Maybe they are still in a box at my parents' place somewhere. I specifically remember the ones mentioned here.
I came here from I Remember Those Days Some commenter said they came from the "Yoshi's Story iceberg", so I guess I'm gonna watch this I found it on the iceberg, and how fun!
Omg my fav game for so long. ❤ I remember crying when I lost a yoshi. 😮 😭 The first "mario" game I ever played! 8 year old me was obsessed. I do recall the special yoshi!!! 😮 Forgot about them!!
It thankfully never dawned on me that Yoshi's Story had received so much flak. Me and a friend totally remember the game with a smile, with her even making the sounds of them, lmao. It is an interesting game visually speaking, for suree, but it had a clever "difficulty" mechanic hidden in plain sight of it, one few games have bothered in repeating: While playing the game straightforward is super easy and not even the final boss ranks up in difficulty (which makes it very accessible for young children), there's also a *points ranking system* and the non-explicit "melon-run" mode (which guarantees each level can be finished by only eating melons 🍈), both which add an angle that appeals to older gamers by no longer making the game a "just finish the story" run, but a "beat this score" aspect to it, complete with naming bragging rights. The melon runs especially require memorizing where they are and being good at rather tricky games like the block stacking race. And without mentioning being able to go thru the levels stages several times without dying, which gets complicated in later chapters. While I personally never attempted those given my young age at playing the game in the og hardware, seeing videos of those runs and record-settings changed my perspective on the game from just being "an easy game" to a modular-difficulty game that could be both great for young kids to get thru while giving seasoned gamers a reason to return and add their name to a new highscore, or see if the game is easy once they're gunning for the 30 melons in a stage, lolz. Great iceberg, btw. I missed out on a lot of those promos given I didn't live in the U.S. at the time!
I didn’t realise the game was so maligned. When I first requested my mom get it day 1 with my system, it was because the ad was very chill and feel good which is what I was looking for at the time. I always enjoyed the game, it had great music, a very satisfying aesthetic and it was a simple fast game you could play at any time. Every era has haters I guess 🤷🏻♂️
This was a really dope iceberg video that covered one of my favorite retro games, deserves a lot more attention!! Also, they got black yoshi fucked upp-
I've always thought that Bowser's battle theme from Super Paper Mario sounded like a sped up remix of Yoshi's Story's final level select music. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or if it's actually a remix of something else, but it'd be really interesting if it was done intentionally.
wtf as a dumb german kid in the 90's that couldn't even read yet, I too saw the zodiac signs Yoshis somewhere and thought these were some kind of power ups in the original game and wondered to this day, whether I really saw them or if it could be just a fever dream of mine. Now I know.
The first time I did what I thought was considered to be completing a level 100%, I noticed it didn't actually acknowledge it in any way. As soon as I realized the game wasn't actually going to give me anything for trying to go full completionist on it, I just lost interest. The 30 identical fruit thing wasn't even in the original JP release, which just seals that lack of intent for the game to have any content beyond just a bunch of levels to eat 30 fruit in.
😂 I absolutely lose it with old games like this with no save states or no save during story playthroughs. No wonder the old ppl were so outraged with video games, you couldnt save it! 😂 That being said, without save spots I could not game. Idk how ppl did ot back in the day.
When you said that this game was made for babies, it hurt my feelings and made my Smile Meter go down. I can't believe you would say something so horrible. I'm going to go sit on my toilet, cry, and then take a fat, mega-pounding dump.
It's also fitting that Yellow Yoshi attended Woodstock, considering the Peanuts character also called Woodstock also being yellow.

The outro completely caught me off guard. Thanks for the outburst of laughter. Good video dude
Got this game for my 7th birthday in 1999.
Still one of my favorite N64 games.
yoshi's island just never brought me the happiness and wonder and honestly like genuine whats the word im looking for, internal peace? or security? that yoshi's story did,its really hard to explain but im glad to see im not alone in preferring it to yoshi's island
The way my jaw hit the floor over the black yoshi lore.
I loved yoshi story the art style was so unique
The club Nintendo comics sound wild asf
Good video 🔥🔥
I find it crazy that it wasn’t so well established with the community. I played all the yoshi spin offs. And black yoshi was my favorite! I loved this game so much and couldn’t wait to play it everyday after school

You forgot about the white Yoshi that is found on the tower level. It has a higher pitch voice then the rest.
this video rox and i laughed out loud quite a few times. yoshi's story is mega underrated, glad to see someone else who loves it
Bruh!!! That McDonald’s yoshi toy tho wtf!!! I was literally thinking about it before clicking this video and you just happened to put it into your video man! No way that earned you a sub! Such nostalgia

Yoshi’s biggest nerf was the removal of his Black alternate skin in Smash Ultimate
Criminal
I also like to ground pound BROWN BRICKS in Yoshi’s Story
It would be amazing if there's project dedicated to restoring Yoshi's Island 64 because n64 version of mother 3 did got project
Loved this video man
I’ve also preferred Yoshi’s Story over Yoshi’s Island
Based and YoshiPilled!
Me too, I did play this game as basically a baby but to this day I still enjoy it.
Mmmmnah. If you played Yoshi Story the meant it's supposed to be played(find all melons) then you could see why Yoshi's Story is mediocre in comparison.
@@Acanofalconpunchokay but you don't have to go melons only so what's the problem?
same

Hey, Bad Fur Day was a classic
The multiplayer is great, underappreciated even. Going through the main adventure is near unbearable now though forbid playing it more than once.
I love seeing BROWN yoshis in Yoshi Story
19:30 was a huge flashback I just stared at wide-eyed. I forgot I had this toy as a kid, and my sister made a little song about it. hahahha, i love your story telling style your utterly hilarious. loved this video

I specifically remember the ones mentioned here.
This was really well made man!
Hmm yes lore moment of yoshi
I came here from I Remember Those Days
Some commenter said they came from the "Yoshi's Story iceberg", so I guess I'm gonna watch this
I found it on the iceberg, and how fun!
Yoshis story is the best yoshi game imo
great video :] quite a few things i didn't know about, and i totally had forgotten about the spider hut easter egg!!
8:55 I still love that the guy that gave Monika the kill for Natsuki, Yuri, Sayori, can speedrun a Yoshi story N64
Omg my fav game for so long. ❤ I remember crying when I lost a yoshi. 😮 😭 The first "mario" game I ever played! 8 year old me was obsessed. I do recall the special yoshi!!! 😮 Forgot about them!!

If the band Kiss is cannon in the Yoshi universe, could the super happy music may have been played and performed by Kiss themselves?
Great iceberg video. Can you do a Donkkey Kong Country iceberg next?
Lovely video, thank you
this was awesome. thank you for doing this vid. i loved this game as a kid, and seeing all the silly shit that was put into it cheered me up today.
As a fun fact, in Japan it's been the aesthetic face of the Yoshi franchise from pretty much day 1.
Replaying this made me remember how ass the controls were... something as simple as jumping on an enemy is tricky
This is so cool. Shaggy approved
finally someone who actually likes story
yoshi story is so fucking cute
I didn’t realise the game was so maligned. When I first requested my mom get it day 1 with my system, it was because the ad was very chill and feel good which is what I was looking for at the time.
I always enjoyed the game, it had great music, a very satisfying aesthetic and it was a simple fast game you could play at any time.

You should do more of these iceberg videos. This was great.
Yoshis Story is peak humanity.
This was a really dope iceberg video that covered one of my favorite retro games, deserves a lot more attention!! Also, they got black yoshi fucked upp-
This game has the best music.

Your video is so awesome and informative
How you don't have many more subs? Of course i am subscribing to your channel, keep it up like that man!
So THAT’S where that yoshi looking at the sunset meme comes from!
You should totally do more iceberg vids!
wtf as a dumb german kid in the 90's that couldn't even read yet, I too saw the zodiac signs Yoshis somewhere and thought these were some kind of power ups in the original game and wondered to this day, whether I really saw them or if it could be just a fever dream of mine. Now I know.
6:24
🤓 Um, actually, in that Family Guy scene, Peter said, "Randy."
I thought I was the only one that liked Yoshi's Story more than Yoshi's Island!
The McDonald's Yoshi toy sounds like the Yoshi's Story theme from Smash 64
[7:17] I own that same plug in play
I like this game because it has yoshi in it
I think the weirdest thing i got from this video, is that Yoshi and "Lizard Lick Towing" are connected XD
Yoshi's Story =< Yoshi's Island
I’m not sure why this game is unpopular. I’ve never played it, but it doesn’t look half bad.
11:25 disk drive, not dynamic drive.
Are they implying the peace pipe because it's a black yoshi even while they're doing the "discrimination is bad" thing? yikes wow oh my
I'm so amused
I need a plush of toaster Kirby
This game is poop pantsingly easy If you just eat all the fruit in your path, but it turns extremely brutal when you go for all melons
😂 I absolutely lose it with old games like this with no save states or no save during story playthroughs. No wonder the old ppl were so outraged with video games, you couldnt save it! 😂 That being said, without save spots I could not game. Idk how ppl did ot back in the day.

NOT FOR BABIES :
You mispronounced torrential
People praising yoshis island when the first good yoshi game to ever release was crafted world
You're joking, right?
Yoshies being racist is pretty fucking funny.
What about when u finish a level they sing eat a**hole
