The game that ENDED a generation | Into the Nexus

- Into the Nexus was the surprise epilogue that turned the future trilogy into a quadrilogy, but like Quest for Booty you couldn't call it a full installment to the series. What you could call it though, is the game that ended a generation... The PS3 generation to be precise, but that didn't have anything to do with the quality.
Did it?

I will always prefer full price long games because they eventually go on sale for half price and everyone wins
Holy shit, I thought this was just going to start a good discussion, I didn’t think there was an actual right answer… but yeah, this is the right answer
Hahahahah… perfect answer
Update: just bought rift apart for 50% off and I’m absolutely loving it! A bit too easy at times on max difficulty and kinda salty guns max level is 5 but the load times/gunplay and visuals are next Gen worthy
Hey there we go! My copy arrived yesterday, I managed to get a cheap copy through Amazon as well, keen to boot it up once I’ve finished tonight’s video!
@@HowGoodGames can’t wait to see your thoughts on the game! I forgot to mention the hover boots are the best in the series and so much fun to zoom around all the levels
Still can’t get over the quality of your videos for such a small channel. Keep the fantastic work!
Thanks for saying dude! I definitely will, thanks for watching!
I love Into The Nexus. It is just too short... If it was a longer game, it was probably one of the best! But now, it has the same problems as Quest for Booty (too short to make a bigger impact, while not being awful like Q-Force/Full Frontal Assault or the 2016 remake).
It makes you think, is it possible to be disappointed by a game because it’s to good? I feel like Q4B was fine, but it was short, simple and fit the bill. Nexus on the other hand was way better than I think anyone expected for an epilogue and might be one of the only games that people rank it lower because ‘it was too good’ since we wanted it longer. Really interesting to consider and hate that I’m only thinking of this now after posting haha. Thanks for the comment!!
@@HowGoodGames I think you are right! Into The Nexus deserved to be longer, Q4B was fine for it's lenght and story.
I like it too the only thing why i cang love it is the design of ratchet and the clank gameplay.
Just started this game and was taken aback by how good it looks, it actually does look like it was meant for PS4 (trying to play this at 1080p is pain, very low fps had to set it to 720p). Makes me wonder if it was a Sony "we believe in generations" thing and didn't want it on the new system.
Great video !!! Funny enough, this is my favourite PS3 R&C game, it’s short, but I enjoyed every second of it. I still remember when I pre-ordered it and finish it in a few days ( I had time playing only before going to school, i woke up at 5AM so I could play it hahah )
Thanks mate! Yeah review scores meant nothing, the true test of a game was how early you would get up before school to play it. That’s why kingdom hearts 2 is a 10/10 for me haha
I can't remember where I read it, but I heard that Insomniac wanted to do a PS3 finale for R&C but looked at how much time they had left before the release of the PS4 and knew that they couldn't fit a full game in. So they made a half-sized game instead. I'm not sure why they didn't make it a cross-gen game, but I'd guess that they were experienced with the PS3 by then and it would have taken additional time to release it for PS4 as well.
He be getting them 1k subs boi. Nice job
Yo thank you dude
My goodness these videos are fire, can't wait to see the rest of the Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper game reviews
Hey glad you’re enjoying them my friend! Working on Ratchet 2016 now for this Friday and then might go sly, ratchet, sly and finish off both those series!
@@HowGoodGames Keep it up bro, I'll be watching every video whenever you're ready to release them
People will hate on this game… but it’s still to me the most beautiful of all the series.
Graphics- 10
Weapons/gadgets - 10
Gameplay - 9
Main villain - 9
Only issue was this game was 2 hours long :/
I would like more ratchet and clank but mixing between shorter but very focused experiences plus some longer grander experiences. I feel like that would offer a nice balance.
Agreed, I guess that’s kind of what this was. And we see that’s what it seems like insomniac is doing with Spider-Man/miles morales so seems like it’s the winning formula! Thanks for watching and commenting my guy 😊
@@HowGoodGames no problem! I feel like the shorter games would also allow for more experimental gameplay and they could allow younger less experienced team members take on bigger roles. Nihon Falcom (my favourite developer) did this with Tokyo Xanadu and that game was well received. It allowed younger developers within the company to lead a project, let older developers learn a new engine and is now influencing their newest game, The Legend of Heroes Kuro no Kiseki. I actually think all companies big enough to do this model should look into it.
@@ColinLack yeah great shout, if I remember correctly that’s how Miyazaki and Kojima both got their starts as well, by being able to pitch and work on smaller ambitious projects. Nek minnit we have dark souls and metal gear
@@HowGoodGames it just seems more efficient, right? Btw if you’re looking for another series to deep dive on, Ys would be interesting. The first one came out just a year after the first Zelda game. It was similar but always had a heavier emphasis on combat. It now has its own unique identity.
@@ColinLack I’ve heard of Ys but never played it myself. I’ll check it out and keep add it to the list, thanks for the suggestion dude!
Hey man, the youtube algorithm is kicking in I think. Just found this video, and started watching a few other ones (Sly, jak,..).
I AM IN.
I love the work you put in these videos, the little (and bigger) edits, the bite-size length of the videos,....
I'm definitly leaving likes, just subbed and "rang the notification bell" ;)
Hope others start finding your videos just like I did.
Looking forward to all your content!
Yo thank you so much for all that feedback mate! A lot of things you just touched on there I’ve had my doubts about, so hearing you say all that makes me really feel confident I’m doing the right thing! Stoked you found and enjoy the channel mate, hope to see you in more comments in the future too!
I really dislike how the series constantly wastes its potential. I might sound like a typical nostalgic fan but they shouldve sticked to what the games were. The humor, the edginess and for god sakes the characters. I really like how they implemented new ones but whys everyone else suddenly gone from the PS2 games? Also all the plott holes (Angela for example) make the story seem meaningless and random. Sure its a platformer & as long as the gameplay is good the story is secondary/meaningless....? Imo the series would REALLY benefit if this was done differently
They targeted the games for a younger audience which was another mistake. PS2 era games did it right. PERFECT for all ages. Story and jokes were good for adults and kids. Why did they try to ONLY target it for kids with a growing audience?? Especially with the movie. No wonder it was a flop. They should orient themselves on Arcane or the Cyberpunk anime...Thats how videogame movies/shows can be made
I always saw extreme potential in the series and not once did they act on it. If they target a certain age group they should actually go for mature. Ideally do it like in the PS2 era
I still think the game could get pretty big if done right. I'm convinced that this will never happen tho
Yeah you are so right !!! And i dont like that they changed ratchets design from a badass looking man to a little kid like in nexus or rift apart.
@@Rachebart Yeah fr. I actually I'm glad they ditched the all for one of ps4 looks coz these were awful.
Youre right tho...Comparing the covers of the PS2 games with how he looks nowadays is ugh.
Back then his looks did justice to his personality. Nowadays hes a cat
This game should have been on PS4. We currently only have 1 ps4 RnC game
Great video. I love how you’ve found your perfect mix of implementing informative facts, opinions, jokes and pop culture memes. And holy shit, man, you’re finally blowing up!
P.S. That Metal Gear Survive bit was ace. It’d be really interesting to watch your take on Metal Gear, if you’re ever considering it.
This one definitely did feel better balanced then some i've done in the past, and I was a lot happier with my music choices, I just have to still work on getting the volume balance right though. Thanks dude, I woke up this morning and had to double take, my best performing video after this long before this had been like 300 views, and this one is 3k really exciting to see!
Dude, I definitely have. I think its a series Ill definitely cover one day, I just think it might take me longer than a week to play and make a video on one to do it justice. Would barely have time to just watch the cutscenes of one in a week lol. But yeah, I'd love to cover it at some point!
@@HowGoodGames Yeah, they’d definitively take a bit longer to churn out, but I’m sure that given the opportunity you’d make great content out of it!
Nice to see your channel is growing quite fast.
Hey thanks for being here since the beginning mate!
This game legit won’t run on my fat PS3. Shuts it down after like 10 minutes of gameplay, guess it’s too intense graphically for such old hardware. It’s weird as it’s just this one game that does it but also makes sense as it was actually the latest PS3 game I had/bought as it was released in 2013, 5yrs after the PS3, 1yr before PS4. Its a shame as it seemed hella fun.
It really is strange that nexus wasn’t given an online only port on ps4 as I’m sure that would have helped sales
Yeah, especially when the ps4 wasn’t backwards compatible. Such a limiting choice and also the perfect launch title, think of how well rift apart did on the ps5 as a showcase piece
its not short if you consider that they offered quest for booty for free to download, thats why. My complain is, why did they not include it in the disc?
Full Ratchet and clank titles with a full price, I will definitely shell out the cash for a great full game even if it takes a while. This is the one game I didn't play much from the series other than the new one but ps5s are scarce, or pricey.
Yeah I agree, especially if they have a strong challenge mode. Have you been able to get your hands on a ps5 yet? I still can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years and we are still in this same spot
@@HowGoodGames I can pay 700 or more to a scalper but I would rather get one from Sony or a store. I agree challenge mode and an extensive arena, plus I want the hover races, and more spaceship dogfights. I could honestly accept a good RAC in general without all the special stuff, I just want the best from my childhood games.
Yeah for sure, if you can wait, wait. Even if you get a good price, having to give money to scalpers is the worst. You sound like a proud parent, as long as you can find someone who will treat ratchet and clank right then you’re a happy man. Feels
Another vid, another banger. what a strike rate you've got going on atm.
Damn Sarkastik Warrior back in my comments, I’m honoured. Well I’ve almost run my road for Ratchet and Clank, but I have a lot of things in the pipeline for the future of this channel! Up the milk
I like waiting if it means a better game
Tools of destruction and crack in time are my favourite games of all time nexus to me was a disappointment I didn't mind it but it couldn't compare to it's predecessors
Awsome video
Thanks Korppi, great seeing you back!
The last PS3 game? But there was still more games coming out at the time.
Into the nexus could have been a good ps4 launch title tbh lol.
You going to talk the game fuse or song of the deep next by insomniac?
Maybe a little further down the track, or part of a larger insomniac retrospective in showing their history and ups and downs. Have other games that I want to tackle first that I think will help grow the channel, but never say never right?
