Yep, very uniquely one of the rare reimaginings that exist. Off the top of my head I can’t actually think of any others, normally when you get to a reimagining it just gets considered a reboot. Only this time it was well and truely just a one off
I played this game looking for a way to recapture the RnC feel. The story is pretty laughable, the writing is pretty bad, but it definitely scratches that RnC itch
Yeeeep, it’s familiar enough to be nostalgic and maybe it’s just me, but it was always the first few planets that were the nostalgic ones I remembered anyway. Saving the mayor, skid mcmarx, going to metropolis and seeing big al, they were all here and I frankly didn’t really remember what happened after that anyway 🤷♂️
The game really left me feeling awful, coming from a long time fan all my life. It could have been so much better, had a movie not gone along side the release. One thing I really hate about the modern ratchet games is the change of music into an orchestral feel that pushes me away. That's probably one of my biggest gripes, but it doesn't matter. New fans will enjoy the redesigns more than me maybe.
Yeah that’s a good way to look at it. Bar some specific franchises, music always seems to be the thing that gets modernised the most, since like graphics so much of what we got for old games was because of technical limitations. That’s not really the case with ratchet though, the music definitely lost its charm a bit
Pretty classic "only I grew up in the 2000s and played ratchet and clank on ps2" energy. Been playing since I got the first ps2 game on release as a small child. Completely disagree with you.
I genuinely believe that 2016 Ratchet being a goody too shoes in this reboot from the start could have worked if Ratchet became more jaded and cynical and act more like his original counterpart during Ratchet 1 as time goes on in contrast to his original counterpart who became more mature and more like a traditional hero as his adventures go on. Not only would this differentiate this Ratchet but it would also give us a taste of what future Ratchet games could have looked like had Ratchet kept his Ratchet 1 personality. Do you guys think this idea would work?
Yeah I think that’s a cool idea, it’s something the film plays with for like 2 minutes having fame start to go to his head which I think is interesting but they move on from it super quick. It could have been like how you have Metroid and Metroid prime both telling seperate stories but being released over the same periods of time. I think a reimagining of the original not based on a film could get real interesting with ideas like yours
yes, ratchet and clank should have had clashing, i think insomniac knows this now because they essentially went back to their roots with rivet and kit and had them have some moments together that felt similar to RAC1
It looks good but is one of the the worst Ratchet & Clank. No Arena, too less planets and too short. Story is bad and it's not much fun to play it, it is really that bad, sadly.
It is a decent game, even a good one, but I'm definitely in the side of people who despise it, everything from the original that was cut got replaced with something painfully generic, the plot, the music (I will never forgive insomniac for this), the characters, even the gameplay, the smooth and fast movement from latest R&C games with strafing and dodging benefits the gunplay but the original game was designed around platforming too, breaking this dynamic hits very hard the challenge, add bland music and barely any character development from the main protagonists, what's left? an engine flex that felt very little until ps5 came allowing better framerates. At the end of the day is not a bad game, is not that bad, but the more you compare it with the original one the worst it becomes, they had a chance to bring back an amazing game that shows how good game design and interesting worlds and characters were done way back then, also, the replacement of the music is an absolute crime, I'll never recover from that
Yeah totally get that. I didn't mention the music at all, but Ratchet 2002 has some of my favourite music from any game, and to not even use it here, I mean there is really no excuse at all for it unless they had somehow lost the rights to their own original tracks. Like I said in the video, the best way to enjoy it is to try and seperate it in your head as a alternate universe story and not compare it at all, because you're spot on, as soon as they start creeping in it makes it a lot harder to enjoy.
This one was a mixed bag for me, I think you’ve summed up why. I loved the gameplay so much, especially as it included the QOL improvements of the sequels which I now consider a requisite for R&C (strafing, weapon upgrading, diverse gadgets/weapons etc.) The absence of these in the original makes it borderline unplayable now, so this is very cool. But the characters, development, story, and clever ancap comedy are missing. Also some worlds were just cut out and that’s disappointing :( Also, I can see you’re monetised now??Congrats, well deserved
Yeah there are definitely reasons why I would want to play No Subtitle over the 2002 original, because regardless of how much you Stan that game you can’t argue that their years of refinement and experience hasn’t made for better gameplay. Tbh, I was like it’s shorter then the original was but I couldn’t remember what was missing, when I went back through my capture of the original I was like god damn, there are loads of cut planets! Thanks very much! Yeah I was approved last weekend, hopefully they’re not to egregious but if I want to be able to quit my day job, then this will be a start!
@@HowGoodGames not at all egregious, RUclips does force you to invest *a lot* of free labour while you grind towards meeting the criteria (and you’ve certainly done that) so I think we can deal with a 10 second ad once a week lol
That’s what it was. Kinda empty on the story. I found myself skipping cutscenes on a “remake” of the first game I ever played. That’s when I knew there was something wrong.
Personally I just hate this new version of Ratchet as a character. This version of Ratchet is just a generic “I wanna be a hero” compared to the original Ratchet who was brash, Selfish and funny
I never heard anybody say this game was bad when it first came out. I played through it 8 or 9 times, I absolutely loved it and I thought everyone else loved it too. Guess I was, at least partially, wrong.
Perception is a weird thing. Like when you grow up doing something that just seems normal, everyone must do it. Then go over to your friends and realize, wait.... you guys don't do that? That's not normal? Hmmm haha
I played the original recently after having played 2016 a couple years earlier. I had so much more fun with 2016 and got me to play the others. So in truth, it worked.
Same here, the 2016 game do something better than and that’s the fun modern gameplay from previous games, the original had a better story. I like both the game.
Absolute banger of a video, unlike this game's soundtrack. Seriously, this game rocks. It's awesome. Ratchet and Clank fans saying it's bad have some impossibly high standards.
When this game came out I definitely remember thinking that it had the most polished version of the gameplay the series was known for. While the story is nowhere near as good as the original game, the gameplay is well done that it's hard to really call the whole game bad.
I agree, labelling it as bad overall is just lazy or petty imo, there are so many things it does well, but the perception is definitely still out there that this is the ‘bad’ one
Ngl i love Ratchet and Clank and played the OG's on ps3 (i don't have a ps3 but for the many R and C games i want one even now) and love them when and when i heard about the movie i was excited, i watched thought it was eh but when i got my ps4 in 2017 and i saw the R and C i was overjoyed. First playthrough i enjoyed. Afterwards i kinda started to see the cracks (it ain't bad just eh for me personally) and was kinda confused about why there aren't any other R and C games for the ps4 (i would have killed for a collection of the OG and ps3 games). When i saw rift apart announced i literally screamed and i was glad ratchet and clank weren't dead, bought rift apart recently and holy crap it's 1 billion times better than ratchet and clank ps4 and i even platinumed and enjoyed every bit of it. Rift apart proves R and C is still good and alive and i hope they stay alive. I hope after Wolverine Insomniac makes another Ratchet and Clank for ps5. Only time will tell and i hope I'm right about them returning in a new game and most importantly STAY ALIVE AND WELL TOO.
The gameplay alone made this game great. Idc about the story because even back when I played Going Commando on PS2, the edgy jokes didn’t matter to me.
Even though the story is bad it's impressive how Insomniac perfected the gameplay and improved on graphics, not to mention sold well to the point that Insomniac kept going with the series by making Rift Apart which improved the graphics. Now with that said imagine if Naughty Dog made a new Jak and Daxter or Sucker Punch a new Sly Cooper (yes I know both developers have said that they are too busy to go back) only that they don't have to worry about the time limit to develop said games like Insomniac did with Ratchet and Clank 2016. Can't wait to see the next videos
Yeah, rift apart was the first game they really had time to develop, keeping in mind though it was during the same time as miles so there would have been some resource management going on there too, but I agree. You take what those studios have learnt now not just when it comes to how to use the hardware but in how to tell stories and create games, it would be unreal to see what we might get from those franchises. I also agree, gameplay wise, I felt that no subtitle was possibly the strongest in the series until rift apart, they’ve rarely ever taken a backwards step in the gameplay which is great
@@HowGoodGames Thanks for your comment man, I'm ready to see what you have to say about Rift Apart, but do take your time if you need it, the videos are always incredible to watch
Hey thanks for your comment dude! And I really appreciate that, I probably put myself under a bit too much time pressure sometimes. I’m waiting on Amazon to deliver a copy of Rift Apart so will probably have that out in a fortnight’s time. Thinking of trying something a bit different and doing a list video next week though, keen to hear what you think of that when I upload it!
I really loved this one myself. I think my first R&C game was Crack in time, but this was my second, and actually the reason I have went back and played some of the more recent titles such as Tools/Booty, etc. I never saw anything wrong with this game myself, and find it as one of my favorites.
My first ratchet and clank game was actually rift apart and I loved it so much. I decided to go back today actually and play this game, and so far I'm loving it as well! Is emulating the older games possible or should I invest in a ps2/ps3?
It's only bad when you take it too seriously and look at the details through a microscope. On the surface, it's just a standard game that's fun to play, and that's all. A game doesn't need an engaging story or well-written characters to be a good game
Or when you compare it to something you idolise thanks to nostalgia goggles. Completely agree though, most of the games I play and really enjoy then never think about them again, the fact I even remember this one is saying something
@@HowGoodGames Yeah like, it's not fair to only judge a game based on comparisons. Many games I see being hated on are perfectly fine in a vacuum, but people keep comparing them to other things they like better, which puts it in a really bad position
@@charKT-7461 amen to that. Plus it also means that even if they didn't like that game that much to begin with, it gets put onto a pedestal and misremembered. Take the original Ratchet and Clank, that game absolutely has flaws, but because some people think the 2016 one is 'so much worse' it almost excuses all the flaws in the original instead of being able to see that some areas definitely were improved
i enjoyed it bc they made it free on psn during peak pandemic in 2020 which was nice for non ps+. as for remembering the original... i first played when i was 5, all i can recall is a dark map with a pyramid like building possibly a hidden gold or silver bolt? idk but what i do remember vividly was me crying and my old man snapping the original ratchet an clank ps2 blue cd in front of me bc i did something i can't remember, even if i wasn't innocent i didn't deserve that
Yeah the play at home initiative was one of the all time good guy Sony things to have done. That is one of the most traumatic stories I’ve heard but also so funny in hindsight, even if I wasn’t innocent I didn’t deserve that is spoken from a man who has had time to dwell on it haha. I can relate though, my dad wouldn’t let me install a demo disc of Spider-Man the movie onto the family computer so I kicked a hole in my wall. So yeah, definitely wasn’t innocent but I probably did deserve that
I played this game when it was free with a ps+ subscription I was extremely disappointed with the music, cringey lines, Drek being a absolute joke and very disappointed that half the planets were cut and annoyed that no one shuts the hell up Then i played again when it was free during covid and was still disappointed, the hard mode is easier than the original one I won't deny that it is a fun game after you get past the disappointment that's it's a sub-par remake that only made the money it did because of the nostalgia from the original games They really should've remastered the original quadrilogy instead of releasing this game
I purchased this game without having any knowledge of the previous games. My younger brother was a HUGE R&C fan but I must say this game is a TON of fun on the PS4. I'm 37 FYI...haha....I love it!
The game was missing the original soundtrack that was much better. This game also ended up having such a mixed reception that Insomniac didn’t create any more R&C games for the PS4.
Thank you my friend! Almost up to the last game in the series, but have some plans for some more Ratchet and Clank content in the future! Great to have you onboard!!
This game started out more or less how I wanted it, but aimed at 5 year olds, OG RnCwas aimed at a younger generation but wasn't catered for them. Cringe story and characters with a mashup of RnC 1 and 3 stories, which doesn't flow well, Ratchet and Clank had no development and were instantly best friends on sight. Gameplay was fine but the levels weren't enjoyable. I haven't even thought about playing an RnC game since playing this one not long after it released, this game soured the series for me. I'd only count on a legitimate remaster to enjoy the series again..
This was the game that introduced me to the Rachet and Clank series, it was so amazing that it made me go check out the movie and yes it was very boring just like everyone says but at least it made me go and play the original trilogy on PS3
I just played it for the first time, this was my first Ratchet & Clank game ever. I had so much fun, I was almost mad when I finished it. Rarely been this entertained by a game, I laughed at the gameplay in a good way all the time, the guns are so delightfully dumb. The story was fine and I loved the way it was told through Qwark but the way some parts were thrown at you was a bit lacking, like when you get caught and ''simply go home''. I went like, ok sure but, how and why ? Other than that it was real good.
So, I’ve never played a R&C game until this year. I picked up A Crack in Time on PS3 and R&C on PS4. Looking forward to finishing them both and currently enjoying Crack in Time.
Thank God I played this game without seeing these opinions. I've been loving it on PS5, definitely not the best Insomniac game I've played and has some big issues that are probably improved in the newest game but it's just so funny.
Man...this for me is one of the MOST UNDERRATED games EVER. I mean, I didn't ever play the original one, but I freaking love that game. Yeah, it's a little bit stupid about the situation with the film, but hey, for me that isn't a problem and I even like it more for that because they tried to do something new. For me arguably one of the best games i've played. Hate me idk...
I usually see it good on a visual scale and that's about it. Where as everything else game play will be said that the older titles have already done what this movie adaptation stitch together with my general gripe being that too much is recycled from older titles from the PS3 games. I know that there was some moving issues which is why they misplaced/lost some of there old work but the people behind the movie could've used the 1st, 3rd, SM, and Deadlock as enough reference material to use to sculpt there movie off of instead of ripping assets off of the entire PS3 library of RaC games to be genuine with the world that the first game resides in.
Alright, so as of writing this comment I just finished this game about 30 minutes ago. For some context, I bought a PS5 about two months ago, never played this game on PS4, never owned a PS3 so didn't play any games there, so this was my first Ratchet & Clank game, and I thought it was overall pretty good. I enjoyed going through it for the most part, my only issue would be the difficulty of some bosses
Personally, I love the game. Its so much fun. I dont mind the story at all although it had alot of flaws. Even though I never played the original game, I felt sad learning new Ratchet personality or character isn't the same as the original anymore
This game is really fun to play and I have played it multiple times, but they just obliterated Ratchet and Clank's personalities, AND their relationship (they almost never interact during the entire story), which is a major part of the franchise as a whole and I could never really forgive the game for that
I totally agree with this video. Well done one too. I liked this game a lot, the gameplay is its core... and nothing else. Platinumed it very recently, but damn it was fun, the story is nothing remarkable, and the characters aside from Nefarious, Elaris and Qwark (mostly the way he talks not as a character) were just nothing really special, not even Ratchet and Clank, they just killed them, I think the director just fucked up very much. The movie is also not bad, as I watched it with a different mentality, it was clearly made for children, so i enjoyed it very much, without caring too much about details. Not very memorable as a game, not even as a movie yeah, but its still good game and people its just exagerating. Of course 2002 its pure perfection for me but I dont despise this one at all.
Yeah I wasn't the biggest fan of Ratchet and Clank 2016. It just lost the soul the original trilogy had. It was supposed to be sort of a kids game, with adult humor kind of subtlely added in there. I enjoyed playing it, but the PS2 original is superior, even though it has worse gameplay. I know it's never going to happen, but a complete remaster/remake of the original would be phenomenal
This game is an absolute joy to play. I hate the hate it gets. Great gameplay. Beautiful graphics. Brings back features from across the whole series. I actually wouldn't call it a remake, reboot, or remaster. Maybe a soft reboot at best, but that would imply it changed the direction of the series, which it doesn't affect the game before it or after it at all. The game is presented as a story being told by one of the biggest liars in the universe, of course it won't match Ratchet's experience in the first game. To me it's always just been the next game in the series.
I had fun with this remake, but it did leave me disappointed because they cut almost half of the levels from the original game. I definitely prefer playing the original over this, but it's still worth playing if you're going through the series.
I disagree with the first game not working as a movie. Maybe not if you remade the cutscenes verbatim, but it had an excellent story idea that had great potential for a movie story. It was basically a buddy comedy movie, where Ratchet, much like Kuzco in Empreror's New Groove or Woody in the first Toy Story, need to learn to overcome their selfishness and ends up making a really good friend. Act 1, Ratchet and Clank meet each other, Clank wants to find Qwark to help them defeat Drek. Ratchet only cares to adventure and explore new planets. We also learn about Drek's plot early on. Act 2. Ratchet hates Clank for having him walk into a trap, he wants to kill Qwark and doesn't care about Drek for the moment. Act 3. After seeing enough death and destruction, Ratchet realizes what is important, and they defeat Drek and become best friends. Insane to think in the PS4 game and movie, Ratchet and Clank never really talk to each other.
This is the "semi" first Ratchet and Clank game I've played. (Besides Size Matters on PSP), and I also have my issues with it. The story or ingame cutscenes felt rushed, sometimes the leveling was comfusing (but thats maybe normal to RaC games), some things I disliked etc. I also felt like I really didn't enjoy the game much, not saying I didn't enjoy playing it but just not as much as other ps4 games I've played.
I actually just finished playing this game again and had totally forgotten that it was even a movie tie-in. I had a friggin blast with it! I think that if you didn't know that it was a movie-game going in it would've been better received by some.
This game funnily enough was one of the first conversations I remember having with my now wife, and it was convincing her to get it because it was on sale on psn haha. Super fun game
Sackboy on PS5 is such an absolute joy to play coop as well. I’m sure you have already, but you both definitely should jump on it takes two if you haven’t already
The only part I hated was the voice of Cora, she talked like she thought the majority audience were 8 year olds. Still the game is the best-selling in the series - definitely not the best game though
I agree with this 100%. I’ve only had a handful of comments, but I think my vocal minority vs silent majority theory is being backed up. Most people are saying that yeah, they really enjoyed it to which is awesome. Different shouldn’t mean worse
@@HowGoodGames yeah exactly, and even though i prefer the old style i don’t mind the new pixar-ish direction, i actually like it as well, especially in rift apart!
When I played Rift Apart at launch, I played 2016 just before it in preparation, not fully understanding it didn’t really play into it at all. I’m super excited to go back to it and finish up the review series for this franchise next! Waiting on Amazon to deliver a copy because I traded mine in after getting the plat, so probably be up in 2 weeks time!
@@HowGoodGames I got RA digitally at launch and I just recently got it physically from another region (to platinum it again lol). I can’t wait for the video!! your channel is one of my favourites
Yeah I originally had it in the script but decided not to focus on labelling it as a reimagining as well as a movie tie in game to not get bogged down. It’s interesting though, reimagining really seems to only apply to a game that is a one off, otherwise most games you could say are a reimagining get labelled as a remake or reboot. The thing that stops this is that it was a one off, because it was a movie tie in game. Hopefully it gets the same point across
Yeah definitely don’t mind it being referenced or referred back to at times, I consider it like how in no subtitle and the movie they use the scene going through Ratchets rap sheet and it references his adventures from other games even though it’s supposed to be his origin story. Even nods to the spin-off games in the museum in 2016 I enjoy, just glad they opted to go back to telling their story rather than trying to keep building off the tie ins
Ive been a fan since i was kid, love ratchet and clank and to be honest, might be because of a blurry memory but i adored this game, been playing the last couple days nonstop. I get the criticisim, but i feel like the gameplay experience overshadows the negatives.
I loved the original ratchet and games as a kid and having only just played this game recently, i thought it was pretty fun and gives that nostalgia hit of a ratchet game and i enjoyed it. I dont care about the bad reviews cause i had fun playing it which is all that matters to me and always love the splash of humour in it too. Looks beautiful too. I never saw the movie so maybe that helps, idk
Size matters, secret agent clank, all 4 one, and full frontal assault are all below the movie game. I actually still like those games, but the movie tie in game while struggling narratively with some really bad in game cutscenes and a hokey script, actually has some amazing gameplay. I ended up having a blast playing though this recently on the ps5 in 60 fps 4k. Honestly the levels and overall experience was great! Super nostalgic playing on old maps from the original too. So IMO its a great game with some bad cutscenes and a story that doesnt do the characters justice.
I think that’s what everyone can agree on, I’m yet to see anyone say they thought this was a great story, but I think that while I love narratives in games, it is more than possible to be a fun game because you have fun gameplay. This one nails that element
While I was bashing my head against the wall at 2am trying to finish this edit, I was coming up with some ideas of list videos and was thinking ‘ movie tie in games that are better then their movies’ all because of this game haha
Gameplay is fine, graphics are fine, it is generally just fine overall _(although a notable flaw unrelated to story you forgot to mention was that they replaced all the music from the original with generic orchestral slop)._ But it's the completely butchered character writing and story that ruins the experience. Sorry, but those aren't inconsequential or dismissible factors, which are in my opinion so unforgivably bad in this case that it's easily solidified as one of the worst games in the series. What they did to Ratchet's character in particular should be covered by the Geneva convention. Corrosive genericism is probably the easiest way to summarize the issues with the game. They took a beautifully flawed product oozing with character and charm, and lobotomized it for mass consumption. Even without comparing it to the original, on it's own merits, that absence is still felt in the overly smoothed and toothless product we got. I remember there was a youtuber, I forget his name, who did a multi-hour long review of the 2016 game that covered all these lost nuances quite well. I didn't agree with absolutely everything he said, but it was really good coverage regardless, 90% was right on the money.
Remember when 3 years was an eternity to wait for game. Now games be 5 years plus between entries. Well God of War was 4 years Ok since 2017 we had like 4 Crash Bandicoot entries. Well 5 is you count the mobile game. Other than Mario and Sonic. Platformer series don't do that anymore But we only had Rift Apart and no sign of a sequel
I've been watching through a lot of your videos recently and I gotta say, for as little interest as I have in the Ratchet and Clank series your content is really interesting and well-done. Looking forward to the next video and you've definitely earned yourself a new sub.
Thanks Juno! Stoked that you're finding it all interesting still, Im almost finished with the Ratchet and Clank review series and have a long list of other titles I want to cover next. This weeks video isn't going to be focused on Ratchet and Clank either so hopefully something to look forward to even more!! Thanks for subbing :)
For me this game is the worst in the franchise however it is better than spinoffs for sure The only good thing about it is the gameplay, graphics and that is it(well this is also my problem with Rift apart but rift apart is way better than this) If the games only compliments are gameplay and graphics it is not a great game for me This game is hated bc of how Insomniac treated rachet and clank and for me this game deserves to be hated that much. It is your opinion on this game and this is fine You can like/love this game Heck you can even call the best RaC game But I cannot stand this game This a Good video,I enjoyed it You have a like
I feel like no subtitle would have been beloved by everyone if it wasn’t trying to be a reimagining because subconsciously old players are going to compare the two
Agreed, it’s almost impossible not to right? So checks the box for new players but alienates the existing ones. If you look past that though it’s still a mad fun game
@@HowGoodGames totally agree. I really like no subtitle and think it’s a great ratchet game but when compared to the original, I see the missed potential
2016 has one serious, major problem. It’s not about Ratchet or Clank. These characters aren’t the ones you grew up loving, they are different, cowardly, pathetic entities that the real Ratchet would give swirlies to. They sanded him out, rounded him off. It ain’t Ratchet.
Yea, this game was kinda weaker then the others, meh adapted story from the movie, lifeless characters in game, though fun to play once or twice through
Honestly I think RAC hasn't been really good since the PS3 era. Tools of Destruction has all the same problems as the remake, it's just people don't notice because it's an original title. Remakes in general are bad though. Just play the original. I think too much blame is put on the movie for this game being bad. It's why I have not yet played Rift Apart. Because I see no reason to assume it's any better.
For Rift Apart, I think it depends on what you like about Ratchet and Clank overall. I personally really enjoyed tools, but enjoyed a crack in time and into the nexus even more, and Rift Apart is a direct continuation of the PS3 story arc, more so then the story from PS2 to PS3. I'll have a full video for Rift Apart coming in a fortnight and go into more detail on my thoughts, but I would say if you can get it cheap, it is definitely well worth checking out
@@HowGoodGames That's basically what I'm doing. I'm waiting until I can get Rift Apart 2nd hand dirt cheap. I enjoyed Tools as a Child, but replaying it as an adult it really didn't impress me. Crack in Time was better at least.
Personally I enjoyed playing it the first time but can’t deny it was extremely lazy retelling of the original game. I didn’t see the movie but heard it told the story a bit better then the game managed to
I watched it as part of my research for this one and it definitely tells a more cohesive story, but with most video games films it suffers from the same shortcomings. I would say I enjoyed the story in the film about as much as I enjoyed the story in the game so, yeah, not a ringing endorsement
A great video about a solid game! Like the majority I too hated the story, but I’ve come around to accepting it, seeing as how Quark is telling the story, and that the game is based on an in universe holofilm. I highly doubt they’d really portray Ratchet with all his 2002 flaws in a propaganda film. Man, imagine a 1 to 1 remake of the PS2 games in RA’s engine. I would be over the moon.
Yeah I agree, they didn’t even want to portray him that way in the rest of their own games! I think that there is why this game ultimately ‘failed’ though, the fact that so many of us say things like ‘imagine if we got an actual remake’. I do it as well, and I think seeing as that’s something they wanted to do, us still feeling like we haven’t got it means they missed their mark. Great game, enjoy it every time I play it (which I think has been 4 times now) but yeah… could you imagine?
@@HowGoodGames I feel like so many players - me included - went into the game expecting it to be an actual remake and thus were largely disappointed. After going back to it without that mindset I really loved my time with it. This game deserved better.
Is it stupid to call RnC 2016 a remix? It remixes the old story with the movie and remixes two planets into one planet, also dont get me started with the weapon line-up
I love this game for what it is and I wish more people did are the other games better yes and no it varies it still fees like ratchet and it’s a one off i can’t get mad at a “reboot” that was never an actual reboot in the first place
Yes, it absolutely is, and if i had the time i'd write a thousand page essay here, tearing it to shreds and Ripping it a new one. It is an insult to gamemaking and the only serious flaw with rift apart is that it has Reboot Ratchet in it. If they had just continued from the future trilogy or uncanonized that, and continued after Gladiator/Exterminator it'd have been great, but the reboot is the single worst thing to happen to this franchise Edit: I've been playing Ratchet since the very first one in 2002 and it almost made me hate my favourite console game franchise. I absolutely LOATHE and DESPISE everything this stands for. The amount of disadvantage Rift Apart was at when i started playing it, because of this *MESS* is impossible to understate. Rift Apart is surprisingly excellent, and reboot ratchet being in it, is one of the two main criticisms of it. They toned him way down, and now i can tolerate him, but he still sucks and i want PS2 ratchet back. All Insomniac has to do is remaster the four PS2 games with Rift Apart's tech, and i'll kiss their hands and bow to them, and be happy for the rest of my life. its not happening, but a guy can dream.
I’ll play anything RaC. This is definitely my least favorite and I normally play the ps2 games once every other year. I like the multiverse head cannon for the ps4 though 🤣
Its not a overall bad game, its better than the 3 last game before, its one of my favorite game in the franchise. The story isn’t strong as the original But other than that its fantastic.
In my case quest for booty is the worst if we can consider a game itself it like make a trailer a game in self . I think this game it just worthy for the last 10 seconds of cínematics but the rest is recycle “trash” that really don’t tell you bothing
Yeah I struggle putting 2016 above any of the ps2 or even some of the ps3 games. I loved Rift Apart and thought the story was really cool, but 2016 is very much an example of gameplay being king
Its pretty annoying that players drop this because its not the same as the original. Its a retold story, to be honest their were som moment in the original story that was not nice to remember, like Ratchet attitude.
*Many years later, and people are still confused whether something is a remaster and a remake*
And 2016 is a reimagining
Yep, very uniquely one of the rare reimaginings that exist. Off the top of my head I can’t actually think of any others, normally when you get to a reimagining it just gets considered a reboot. Only this time it was well and truely just a one off
Its more like a reboot.
Only americans
Reboot
I played this game looking for a way to recapture the RnC feel. The story is pretty laughable, the writing is pretty bad, but it definitely scratches that RnC itch
Yeeeep, it’s familiar enough to be nostalgic and maybe it’s just me, but it was always the first few planets that were the nostalgic ones I remembered anyway. Saving the mayor, skid mcmarx, going to metropolis and seeing big al, they were all here and I frankly didn’t really remember what happened after that anyway 🤷♂️
The sub 30fps made it unplayable for me... 😢
For years i avoided this game as it was such a step down from Crack in Time. But now I’m glad for any RnC content.
Without the movie, we might not have gotten ANY RnC games on PS4. This game was the only one, and likely only for the movie.
Nah Nah Nah the worst games in Rachet series are Q-force and All-4-one
Also some worlds were just cut out and that’s disappointing :(
Also, I can see you’re monetised now??Congrats, well deserved
Hmmm haha
The 2016 game was what got me into ratchet and clank, which got me into dak and daxter. So I'm very glad they made it
Yeah but were the 2016 game better than the same thing happened
It was too short and the bouncer weapon was only for people who pre-ordered as well from what I remember.
I had no idea people hated this. This game is classic in my weird gen-z mind lol
I played the original recently after having played 2016 a couple years earlier. I had so much more fun with 2016 and got me to play the others. So in truth, it worked.
Sadly
Same here, the 2016 game do something better than and that’s the fun modern gameplay from previous games, the original had a better story. I like both the game.
logic beacuse 2002 was made on ps2
I agree, its a fantastic game
The story wasn’t strong like the original, but the modern gameplay shine. Its my third or fourth favorite game in the franchise.
You can emulate the older ones via PC, using a ps2 and ps3 emulator.
So yeah, definitely wasn’t innocent but I probably did deserve that
I played this game when it was free with a ps+ subscription
I was extremely disappointed with the music, cringey lines, Drek being a absolute joke and very disappointed that half the planets were cut and annoyed that no one shuts the hell up
Then i played again when it was free during covid and was still disappointed, the hard mode is easier than the original one
I won't deny that it is a fun game after you get past the disappointment that's it's a sub-par remake that only made the money it did because of the nostalgia from the original games
They really should've remastered the original quadrilogy instead of releasing this game
Thank god im not the only one that loved it.
That ain't Ratchet and Clank, that's Sprocket and Spank.
I dont understand why you'd play ratchet and clank for story. Like, wtf? The gameplay mechanics in this game are insane
Just discovered your channel and I really enjoy your commentary on the Ratchet & Clank games. I look forward to more!
I am getting this game. I don't care what fans saying.
You would be making the right choice, it is overall, super fun
Thd game is fun
Same i personally enjoyed it. Some people take video games way too seriously.
Its a fantastic game, it got me back to the franchise again. That’s how much i like the game.
Its my first R&C game, and its great. Made me want to try every game in the series
All 4 one & full frontal assault: thank god this game took the rap for us😅
Where the fuck are new ratchet games? They prefer to make that soulless spiderman copies of each other
So, I’ve never played a R&C game until this year.
I'm not sure this can be called a remake as it's much closer to a reboot since the gameplay is much different and the story is completely changed.
I honestly loved this game and the movie, I just had fun playing this!!
This game funnily enough was one of the first conversations I remember having with my now wife, and it was convincing her to get it because it was on sale on psn haha. Super fun game
@@HowGoodGames that's great!🤣
After I got Sackboy it was easy to convince my woman to buy more video games like this!
Sackboy on PS5 is such an absolute joy to play coop as well. I’m sure you have already, but you both definitely should jump on it takes two if you haven’t already
Same here some people take video games way too seriously. Video games are for fun people chill. 😂
Sadly
The only part I hated was the voice of Cora, she talked like she thought the majority audience were 8 year olds. Still the game is the best-selling in the series - definitely not the best game though
I love this game.
Its so chill.
I don’t care what people say, I love this game and I think even though it’s very different it nails the core fun aspects of RaC
Hey thank you man, that means a lot, glad you the videos mate!
There's a fourth category you missed: re-imagining. That would fit R&C 2016
Playing it on PS5 now for the first time. Given its a tie in for a family movie; my expectations are being met - it’s fine
I like to think that Ratchet & Clank (2016) is a canon movie within the universe just like Secret Agent Clank.
Insomniac added its history in Rift Apart with the introduction and the Galactic Ranger Suit.
Yep
Ive been a fan since i was kid, love ratchet and clank and to be honest, might be because of a blurry memory but i adored this game, been playing the last couple days nonstop. I get the criticisim, but i feel like the gameplay experience overshadows the negatives.
this game is still underrated
I loved the original ratchet and games as a kid and having only just played this game recently, i thought it was pretty fun and gives that nostalgia hit of a ratchet game and i enjoyed it. I dont care about the bad reviews cause i had fun playing it which is all that matters to me and always love the splash of humour in it too. Looks beautiful too. I never saw the movie so maybe that helps, idk
2016 game is far from bad, it has a metacritic score 85. The story isn’t handle well like the original game But the modern gameplay is the best.
@@HowGoodGames here's a compliment for the games story, it was a better version than the movie.
While I was bashing my head against the wall at 2am trying to finish this edit, I was coming up with some ideas of list videos and was thinking ‘ movie tie in games that are better then their movies’ all because of this game haha
Broken telephone? Thought it was Chinese whispers
I just wanted a full remake of the original, this game disappointed me. Didn't hate the gameplay I just wanted more, and strafing on the og lol
Yeah I get that, honestly, if they had have just made the original game 1:1 and added strafing, thats probably an IGN 10/10
I liked the purely evil Dr. Nefarious of this game.
The gameplay and graphics are obviously superior but the original had better writing and story
Remember when 3 years was an eternity to wait for game.
Now games be 5 years plus between entries. Well God of War was 4 years
Ok since 2017 we had like 4 Crash Bandicoot entries. Well 5 is you count the mobile game. Other than Mario and Sonic. Platformer series don't do that anymore
But we only had Rift Apart and no sign of a sequel
I've been watching through a lot of your videos recently and I gotta say, for as little interest as I have in the Ratchet and Clank series your content is really interesting and well-done. Looking forward to the next video and you've definitely earned yourself a new sub.
Thanks Juno! Stoked that you're finding it all interesting still, Im almost finished with the Ratchet and Clank review series and have a long list of other titles I want to cover next. This weeks video isn't going to be focused on Ratchet and Clank either so hopefully something to look forward to even more!! Thanks for subbing :)
So the takeaway is play the PS2 original instead of the PS4 version?
It really wasn’t that bad
Yeah it really wasn’t. Thanks for watching bro!
The game got a solid 85 on metacritic, its better than the last 3 games before.
For me this game is the worst in the franchise however it is better than spinoffs for sure
The only good thing about it is the gameplay, graphics and that is it(well this is also my problem with Rift apart but rift apart is way better than this)
If the games only compliments are gameplay and graphics it is not a great game for me
This game is hated bc of how Insomniac treated rachet and clank and for me this game deserves to be hated that much.
It is your opinion on this game and this is fine
You can like/love this game
Heck you can even call the best RaC game
But I cannot stand this game
This a Good video,I enjoyed it
You have a like
I wish they remaked the first game 1:1.
Yeah you and me both brother!
I liked it more than Rift Apart and the PS3 games
Yea, this game was kinda weaker then the others, meh adapted story from the movie, lifeless characters in game, though fun to play once or twice through
Goes to show, even a weak ratchet and clank game is still a good game
True
This is my favorite Ratchet & Clank game
God this dude loves to yap around (and i'm completely fine with it)
A great video about a solid game!
It remixes the old story with the movie and remixes two planets into one planet, also dont get me started with the weapon line-up
it’s a “reimagining”
I love this game for what it is and I wish more people did are the other games better yes and no it varies it still fees like ratchet and it’s a one off i can’t get mad at a “reboot” that was never an actual reboot in the first place
Same mate! Except the ps2 part.
Yes, it absolutely is, and if i had the time i'd write a thousand page essay here, tearing it to shreds and Ripping it a new one.
It is an insult to gamemaking and the only serious flaw with rift apart is that it has Reboot Ratchet in it.
If they had just continued from the future trilogy or uncanonized that, and continued after Gladiator/Exterminator it'd have been great, but the reboot is the single worst thing to happen to this franchise
Edit: I've been playing Ratchet since the very first one in 2002 and it almost made me hate my favourite console game franchise.
The story isn’t strong as the original But other than that its fantastic.
prefer the originals but its definitely fun
Good gameplay, terrible story. Good graphics.
There was a movie? Wow
In my case quest for booty is the worst if we can consider a game itself it like make a trailer a game in self . I think this game it just worthy for the last 10 seconds of cínematics but the rest is recycle “trash” that really don’t tell you bothing
Yeah, Q4B is definitely a weak point imo
This one the first game that I enjoyed and had so much fun
i liked the remake but the ps2 games cant be touched they are the best
Is this ratchet connected to the others
No it’s just a retelling of the original
@@canontheory like the crash nsane trilogy?
I loved the trilogy on ps2 but playing the remake (along with the new ps5 game) the writing/script is just too dog shit to enjoy.
Yeah I struggle putting 2016 above any of the ps2 or even some of the ps3 games. I loved Rift Apart and thought the story was really cool, but 2016 is very much an example of gameplay being king
7:50
yea
I don't really care what the haters say. I enjoyed the game it was fun. If you want the original then go play the original. 😌
Me too, I honestly never understood why there was so much negativity around it until I made this video.
Its pretty annoying that players drop this because its not the same as the original. Its a retold story, to be honest their were som moment in the original story that was not nice to remember, like Ratchet attitude.
