Johnny was cool, i caught some of his shows. I liked his humor. But my faves would be the early '80s Dave Letterman and Tom Snyder when he was on CBS (and used to have Robert Blake on as a guest - before the Bonnie Lee Blakely murder).
Johnny was the best late night host ever. The only one that came close to him was Steve Allen. Steve Allen had a whacky sense of humour, in some ways his improvisational skill was as good as Johnathan Winters and almost as good as Robin Williams.
After watching this clip, I really appreciate Winters' patience in telling a story. He didn't rush or exaggerate it. He let the story do the telling. Excellent comedian! So sad he is gone.
Loved how Robin looked at Johnathan every time he cracked a joke to see his reaction. And Jonathan would give him the approving smile. A strong connection between those too.
Johnathan Winters was the only man who could cause Robin Williams to try to keep up. And he did but he had to work at it. Williams was usually the center of attraction everywhere he went except when Winters was around. Williams seemed to hang on his every word. Fun to watch.
Bullshit. He was trying to draw attention to himself because no matter what the situation or with whom, he has to be to center of attention. Williams was nothing more than a hyperactive pissant who’s comedy was nothing more than attacks via straw man material with people whom he disagreed politically. He and Goldberg two of a kind.
Carson was a genius interviewer. Let his guest talk and occasionally throw in some one liners to compliment the discussion. Today's crop could really take some lessons from him.
I hope Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams are in heaven this very moment and for all eternity sitting together and making each of the laugh. Those two were great men in life and in comedy. Rest in peace guys!
If you believe in the Bible then sadly they're not. Robins not in a great place cause obviously God will damn you forever if you're sad and cant handle the shitty life he gave you so you committed suicide so his answer is punish you even more forever.

Comedians usually get their laughs 4 ways, the actual jokes, the timing, the facial/body gestures and the delivery. Robin and Jonathon had all of these plus the ability to adlib and run with pretty much anything. Robin also had a 6th way which was unique to only a few of the greats and that the speed in which his mind worked leaving people in awe.
You can tell that Williams in really in awe of Winters. It's so strange to think that all three men in this video are gone. RIP Jonathan Robin and Johnny.
Robin is hilarious, as he always was. A lot of people don't appreciate the brilliance that was Jonathan Winters. He was so obscure and somewhat weird with his humor. He was my grandfather's favorite comedian.
You've got that backwards. Jonathan Winters was always hilarious, and a lot of people didn't appreciate Robin Williams's weird humor. As a stand-up comic, Williams was funniest in the '70s, back when he was always coked-up. He kinda lost his touch without the coke, which Winters subtly references in this interview.
+John Mortimer I think if you took a poll right now, 99% of people will tell you they know who Robin Williams is/was and about the same percentage loved him. I highly doubt too many people can say the same about Jonathan Winters. Not that he wasn't funny, he was hilarious. But, he was very popular from the late 50s to the 80s. In today's times, a lot of people don't appreciate his humor because they simply don't know him.
Surprising how few, even today, fail to realize that Williams was a notorious drunk and coke head. Hey, I am all for this "chacun soi", but you obviously made good reference to Williams' life with and without the coke.

Well now come on, Winters was 66 here. Look up stuff from when he was younger and you can see him being a lot quicker. Of course, the similarity is still just uncanny. Jonathan Winters was a creative genuis.
He was and is still greatly loved by my friend Patrick Conway, Tim's gifted son.
Jonathan will be missed by all writers, and we will carry his spirit with us now.

Joe Schmoe I’m a “lefty” and can appreciate humor like this. Don’t paint millions of us as the same.
Love the way they bounce off each other. True comedic genius and respect

I can fondly remember watching Johnny, he was a natural talent.
Winter, Williams, Carson.. my favorite stars..
You forgot Ed McMahon.
He was not a star.
Darcy Lynn ventriloquist
Jonathan Winters was the only man i knew of, that could "out improve" Robin Williams
CCs Welding For a long time I couldn't figure out why Robin didn't butt in more with his own brilliantly funny observations. I've concluded it was out of respect to the master.
Master and Student
Jonathon was Robin's mentor
jonathan winters is great, but Robin certainly eclipsed his improvisational skills
You can tell how much Robin Williams admires Johnathan Winters! Love seeing how much he makes him laugh!
