Gives me goosebumps every time. Starting at 18:17 through the end is some of the best jamming they've ever done, period (IMO). And Mike is playing like he's from another dimension.
Granted this info cam from someone I met inside the Paradiso men's room, but it's interesting. Apparently the Paradiso was used as a Pagan ceremonial hall, where both sacrifices and black magic regularly headlined the evenings a few hundred years ago, I was skeptical, since the ram's horns protruding from this individuals head could easily have been attributed to the phantasmagorical fog of fungus forming around me.
I've been a phan since 93 and don't understand why this isn't considered a classic. From about 9 minutes in until the end its magic. Towards the end it's a simple reprise ish guitar rift with Gordon and Page's heavenly melody. I wouldn't be surprised if they were tripping balls that night. I also want you to know Stash is one of my least favorite songs until 97 to 98 run. During that 2 year span it was into my top 25. I played this leaving a San Diego bar on the way back to campus with 2 non phish fans. When we got back both said whatever you just played was some of the best music we've ever heard. Mind you, not a word was spoke for about 30 mins until we arrived on campus.
Great story, phren. The jam and especially the peak tension-release from the A Live One Stash was truly the moment I "got" Phish and became a forever phan. So this song has always been dear to me, though I rarely hear versions that compare to that original one that got me hooked. But holy hell, this one does the trick, to say the least. I don't think the band was dosed for this show but it's a well established fact that Trey dosed the night prior and was indeed tripping major balls on the streets of Amsterdam with the late Chris Cottrell.

the Paradiso is a late 19th century church...not several hundred years old. that must've been a particularly mischievous group of fungi.

Killer Archive. Historical and Pretty
Agree on the great jamming from 18:17. I have that on my ipod as a standalone piece of music!
