My dad came and busted me out of Boarding School for the night to go to this show on a weeknight. We told the school administration that we were going to observe a religious festival. We were not lying.
There were many times my Mom busted me out of Boarding School during fall tours to "visit colleges". Just so happened a lot of the fall tour shows were in college arenas so technically it wasn't a lie.
@@travistravinyle4207 I wanted to go. I went for one year. It was great, honestly, and then I went home and finished high school at the local public school, which was also pretty great. i was lucky
They should just release all of Fall 97 ' on multi-track as a massive box set and charge whatever and be done with it. I'll pony up for the tour .. it's that good.
I've been to a lot of shows, just over 100, from 94 on. I do not say this to brag or to qualify my opinion as better or whatever... who cares. I mention it only so I can make this point- IMO the best bands/artists of any kind change. They don't do it because they can't do what they used to, it's about growth and commitment to regularly reinventing themselves. After listening to 10/22/14 the other day, I went to bed with the most amazing sense of peace and pride in the creative journey our four guys are still deep within. There are countless factors outside of the momentary choices Phish makes on stage that determine what we hear now, but in the end, all that matters, at least to me, is this... The jam between Theme and Steam on the 22nd struck me so hard that I was literally dancing by my self in my living room almost unaware of the fact that it was happening. NO other band or piece of music has ever had that effect on me. So I guess my final word on all of this goes like this... Phish is alive, well, and truly kicking some ass. How fucking lucky are we all that this is true? Thank you boys. Your musical gifts are worth rejoicing over endlessly. From the bottom of my heart, you and your art mean the world to me. May you all be as blessed as we are as your fans. You guys are the fucking greatest:)
Couldn't have said it better, having been on this ride since Charlotte 95 and the Hampton 97 run...People/Musicians evolve, change, go through shyt, whatever.... but these guys have gone through it as a family and their music reflects it. The haters can keep on hatin'... And we'll keep sharin' in the groove...Peace
+pleasantresonance348 I'm in a similar position to you. Similar start date, similar show count (sounds right but I don't keep track). I long for more shows like fall '97 but recognize they've grown as I have and they will continue to. I'm just grateful for the ride. :) Thanks for having this here. I had a blast at this show. :)
Never missed a Spectrum show. The quality of the video is EXACTLY how it looked to me in person too. The shows were darker and more mysterious back then. Can’t believe how far they’ve come and what they’ve EVOLVED into in 2024. Still the GOAT live musical act in the business and still flying under the radar for the most part. I miss the Spectrum more than any venue in the country. Was my “home field”. Can’t believe they skipped Philly for Summer tour ‘24 and that there is NO Fall tour!? Might be a sign that the end of an unbelievable 30+ years of live music is coming to a close.
Yeah man. I know how busy Trey must be with life and it could just be that....but I think he's in some sort of decline. Cognitive, physical, like more than just age. If he took like 'convalescent' level care of himself for a while he could get better but I don't see that happening.
Wow. Haven't listened to Phish much in the last ten years. Somehow had a song stuck in my head today. Found my way to this. I was at this show. And I still have the cassette recordings in a box under my desk. Wow. Takes me back. Thanks.
Absolutely they were still proving all magazines and media mogul empire wrong. They were incredible ,im miles Davis fan to the bone but saw phish up to 2000 and mixture of dead, jazz, Zappa, just can't be replicated four guys same vision talented enough to see it through. Creativity at it's highest level I've seen
This is one of the first 5 or 6 Phish shows I went to, as a freshman in college at Kutztown university in PA. Saw some HS friends, saw some kids from college, smoked some crazy good hash and had one hell of a great time. The slow tease into Bowie had me doing the pee pee dance in anticipation
I was there too, not my first but very close. I think I saw 2 in fall 96 and 2 in summer 97 before this one. The good old days. Fortunately for all of us Phish has only gotten better and more fun
This is probably one of the best uploads in RUclips history. Just completely in awe. can't believe you've only got 500 views. Sound alone is sick. Obviously a board sync, but still... Anything pre-hiatus that looks good on video is an accomplishment. Please take me at my word when I way that YOU RULE!
@@jonnyringo I know, right? What was I thinking. I can even still hear the shape of the inside of the spectrum, very unique sound, having worn out the tape of Set 1 of this show. This is a great set, but I think set I tops it. I love the sound of this place.
This oft-overlooked yet amazing show from one of the best runs in phish history is now duly forever memorialized with this incredible video. Thank you!!!
I traveled from Arkansas to Philly just for these two shows and this set was one of the best i ever saw. Perfect fall 97 show at the soon-to-be-shutdown spectrum
Cool. I was actually there. I remember thinking. 'oh well, I'm a little late to Phish, but at least I'm gonna seeum. . turns out fall 97 is a sweet spot in Phish-dom. now I see why. . again. thanks.
The only think better than the synchronized funky stepping during the post-Possum jam is the precise and impeccable improvised funk...sharp as a knife.
This was an epic two night run. All four sets showcase top-tier stellar jamming. The slow porno/cow funk was in full effect! Would love a SB to surface.

doesn't get any better than fall 97 tour...WillMaul you're correct about this show as it is often over looked due to all the epic shows on this tour. 12.7.97 is my personal favorite....psycho killer!!!!
Fall 1997 will always be my favorite shows.... Right now I am happy to see Phish, but it will never be Fall Tour '97 again. The shows now are still good.... theyre just different. They have more to choose from now, so we can't have 5 song sets with monster jams.... theyre trying to keep everyone happy... and it's har. Give the new stuff a chance.... just because a jam doesnt go 25 minutes doesnt mean it's not good... yeah I asmit they come out of jams too soon more often than I like, but maybe it's us too? We are getting older... maybe the energy that was there isn't there anymore... Trey needs the audience... especially now.... theyre all 49 or over 50 now.... they have evolved and they want to show us what theyve learned... I know there are always going to be critics, but let's enjoy what theyre doing... not like anyone is doing anything better right now!
I enjoyed Trey 1.0 as much as anyone, but the fact he and the band are still going strong 25 years later… we are blessed. Thankful we don’t have to debate over choice of frontman for Phish & Co.
