- AFTERNOON TEA AT DOWNTON ABBEY (HIGHCLERE CASTLE)// Happy Tuesday lovely people, Today we're finally sharing our visit to Highclere Castle in Hampshire also known as Downton Abbey! We were so so excited as we had to reschedule our visit 3 times due to Covid. Highclere Castle is the country seat of the Earls of Carnarvon. The 5th Earl of Carnarvon was the chief financial backer on many of Howard Carter's Egyptian excavations and known for the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. There's also an Egyptian exhibition which gives you a lot of insight and amazing replicas. Egypt holds a special place in my heart since I (Kirsten) lived there with my parents as a teenager.
As huge Downton Abbey fans, this place is even more beautiful in person but even if you haven't watched the series, the house is magical. To make our visit even more memorable, we also booked a traditional English Afternoon Tea at the Coach House, one of the real British traditions. You have to book in advance and they also offer a gluten free option.

20 years ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a wonderful vacation traveling in England. It was a dream of mine, and loved every minute of it. The high teas, O the gardens, and wonderful morning walks. The rain smelled fabulous, thank you for all the details that help me relive a very special time.
I was in England for a conference back in July 2018, and loved every second of it. We rented a car and drove all over to squeeze in as much as we could. England stole my heart and the people are fabulous. I can't wait to go back...even it it requires a conference first. LOL

You brought back memories of my own visit to Highclere Castle. I heard the music playing as we pulled up the driveway and I could remember so many significant scenes in every room . We also had Tea which was lovely, really well done but I agree they could probably have a larger and perhaps prettier place in which to serve it. Very glad we took Tea though 😊

I have not seen Downtown Abbey, but now I might see if I can find it and watch it. The castle looked amazing as well the afternoon tea. But, I think the best thing for Joerg was seeing how happy it all made Kirsten so happy, he loves her so much.

Aww thank you so much! To be fair, you can book your afternoon tea as a picnic but since you have to book way in advance, it can be tricky regarding the weather and of course they need to plan.

The rose and flower gardens are fabulous. The afternoon tea, looked very yummy. I seem to be noticing more gluten free items where we shop now. The cars were fantastic,love seeing Lord Carnarvon driving away. Love video of the field of white flowers with Kirsten walking up the middle

How exciting to finally see Highclere…beautiful estate….I had planned to visit a year or so ago when I was going to a family wedding,but sadly had to cancel the flight to the UK because of Covid…..it was lovely to see it today,thanks…seen a program with Lord & Lady Carnarvon,,they seem very down to earth friendly welcoming people….afternoon tea is a wonderful British tradition,wish it was here…🇨🇦
