I really appreciate how thorough you were in teaching this stitch! Too many people forget to be thorough because it's second nature to them. The thermal stitch is also great for the sole of slippers 🤓
Thank you so much for your video! I suffered a stroke less than a year ago and have been doing crochet as therapy. It's been a challenge but gets easier over time. I've been so frustrated at both written and other videos of thermal stitch that I was about to give up. Now I am confident that I can do the projects I had in mind to do. I have saved your video so I can refer to it if I need to. Thanks again!
What really helps is the first fact is the clarity of the camera, and then you explaining, and last by least going slow enough so my brain can wrap around and follow through. Thank you very much
I've used this stitch for blankets,wristers/fingerless gloves and headbands/earwarmers. I think I will make some slippers next. This would also make a warm pair of leg warmers and boot cuffs 👏👏👏. Thank you for the awesome video as usual 😊. Have fun everyone!
I have watched several videos trying to learn this stitch, and yours is the first that made it clear enough for me to duplicate. thank you so much for this as i can now make some pot holders for my mum.
I love this stitch because of its doubled up nature, you can’t see through it like many other stitches, and it creates a durable cloth with a clean finish
Ok Ashlea, so tonight I'm giving this a try... I haven't done any crochet in 7 years and wanted to make a simple square shaped sample that could be used as a mug coaster as my first "project". I tried to follow some simple double crochet stuff on another channel and broke down crying. I came here and tried THIS, despite that in theory this should be considered more difficult(?)... and THIS I was able to DO and figure out and understand... I have no other explanation other than the fact that this is likely a combination of me having a brain that's wired backwards, and you being an excellent instructor!!! I think for my little sample square coasters learning, I'm just gonna stay HERE on this channel to do the learning!!! Thank you so much!
I just wanted to say I really admire your determination and then hearing your relief and gratitude after finding this so helpful in working it out, I know what that feels like so much being reasonably new still to crochet, just feel so happy for you! 🤗
The first few rows I was rethinking if I should continue. It just wasn't looking like it would turn into anything. Then that 4th or 5th row was like magic and everything suddenly made sense! It's about 10 times easier at that point as well, not having to struggle as hard to find the right stitch to pair up with. Thank you so much for your video!
i’ve been trying to do this stitch for months and your video finally made it easy enough to be able to complete it thank you! i made a bag strap for a bag i made for my goddaughter
I just found this creator that used this stitch for - purses and bags... It's all in Korean and my hangul is literally a work in progress... And, I needed the instructions for this stitch and you made it easy and clear... Now I can proceed with my project for that beautiful bag... Thank you...
Thank you for clarifying that each one goes into the BACK LOOPS! I have tried this stitch by using other videos but they just don't clearly explain BLO. Thank you so much!!!
Trying to learn this stitch left handed. Info for other southpaw's out there: when it's a chain 1 turn and hang down, WE SOUTHPAW'S NEED to chain one and let it hang up for correct orientation. Otherwise you're going to have fits. I spent 10 minutes fighting the orientation before realizing that, since everything is opposite for us, that includes the way it hangs. They go down, we go up.
What hook is this anyway, I love your manicure, your tutorial was taught well and explained clearly! Thank you, I wanna make these when I'm fine with my graduation projects!❤😊
Looked this up for a center layer for a vintage style lace potholder. I really like how it is turning out. But, size 5 dark brown thread with a 3mm hook is going to take awhile. Lol
Hi ! I know i'm kinda late to the video, but i'm planning to crochet a bottle holder's handle in this stitch and i was wondering in which ways is it stretchy ? So i can know how to make the handle non-stretchy
Can I use this for a heating pad for period cramps? I have very bad cramps to the point where I cry and throw up from the pain, if so can I put rice in there?
Try a few yoga poses. But you need to do them when you dont have your periods. I had the same issue. I used to faint. But i got such relief from those poses. Try it. 🙏🏼
Hi Ashlea! Do you think this is too thick for a blanket for a baby ? Trying to find a pattern (no holes) for my son who is due in December 🤍thank you for a great video! All your videos are great!
It would be a great stitch for pot holders or trivets...I used it in my casserole carrier pattern here: hearthookhome.com/casserole-carrier-free-crochet-pattern/
Hey I have a question about the foundation chain! Let’s say for example my row is supposed to be 6 stitches would I be doing 6 chains, an additional 1 chain THEN starting row 2 into stitch #6 (because you said to skip one?) Or would row 2 start into chain #5 (again skipping the first stitch)? I’m just a bit confused on that part as every tutorial is doing something different and they don’t really explain that part 😭
Hi, yes you'd ch-7, then start with the second chain from the hook to make a row that is 6 sts wide. That's technically row 1. When you go to make row 2 you'll chain one and turn, then work into the back loop of the current stitch and the open loop from the foundation chain. After that you're just using the back lop of the current row and the open loop from the row below. The photos in the written tutorial may help: hearthookhome.com/how-to-crochet-the-thermal-stitch/ Let me know!
I really appreciate how thorough you were in teaching this stitch! Too many people forget to be thorough because it's second nature to them. The thermal stitch is also great for the sole of slippers 🤓

I am going to use this to make a tote bag as I need a sturdy stitch for my books. This was so helpful and easy to understand thank you so much!
Such a cool idea! Did it take you long to finish? I might try this aswell 😊
Wonderful tutorial! Your manicure is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your talents!
I haven’t felt like crochet for a long time. I saw this and want to get it started. I’m very excited about this. 😊
Wonderful!
This stitch looks so fun! I love learning new stitches. I appreciate you being concise and not super chatty about non-related stuff.
I love this stitch. It has so many practical uses such as coasters, table mats, table runners, pot holders and so on.
Thank you so much! You explained this perfectly. I don't use thermal stitch often. I'm saving this video in my crochet playlist. May God Bless You!!!!
Congratulations on your video tutorial!! Excellent!!! Straight to the point without unnecessary 10 min story and well explained. Thank you ❤

Thank you for being so patient and thorough!
I need to watch your tutorial at least three times. I think I have it, trying it one time. The Bronx, New York

Excellent and quick tutorial. I was second guessing myself, but your video confirmed I know this stitch! Gracias!
Love this pattern, thank you for instructions❤❤❤
Love!!! It's so much easier for me to do this than use a super thick yarn. Thanks ❤
this is a really cool stitch! I use it for bag straps so they don't strech out after some time like other stitches would ! :)
Hello.... What type of yarn and size hook are you using? Thank you
Thanks just what i was looking for ❤
Thank you for clarifying that each one goes into the BACK LOOPS! I have tried this stitch by using other videos but they just don't clearly explain BLO. Thank you so much!!!
How cool! I just saw this term used in a crochet group I’m in and I’d never heard of it before! Learn something new 😊
Thank you, got it. You're an excellent teacher 🌻🌻🌻
Yay, thank you!
Love this stitch. I’m just starting a hat I’m going to use this stitch! Will make a very warm hat. Thx for the video 😊
You explained and showed this beautifully - thank you!
Thank you! I’m making a bag strap out of this stitch and this helped me understand!
i’m planning on making a bag strap out of this stitch too and was wondering if your strap stretched or if it was pretty sturdy
@@katieseditz134 it stretches but mostly stays in place. Super sturdy!
@@gracemiller5792 thank u so much i’m looking forward to this stitch lol
Very nice **quick** stitch for washcloths/dishtowels! Thank you!
Great instructions very easy to follow

Thanks! I realized that too after I got started. Ha!

Your video is so easy to follow. I am interested in making a pair of oven mitts that look like a mitt. Any suggestions for a pattern. Thank you!
Thank you SO much for making this stitch so easy!
Thanks! Had a pattern that called for this. You make it look so easy. Excited to try this new stitch.
You can do it!

Hi Ashlea! Do you think this is too thick for a blanket for a baby ? Trying to find a pattern (no holes) for my son who is due in December 🤍thank you for a great video! All your videos are great!
You can...it would be very dense and warm!
Could this be worked in the round ? I'm working on some mittens that I'm improvising, I want to try this.
Que manitas tan lindas y creativas gracias, una pregunta tiene que ser de algodón la lana digo por aquello de lo caliente
Thank you😍
I love that hook! What kind is it & where can I purchase one please??❤❤
How many chain do I need to make a placemat with the thermal stitch. With a H hook and the 24/7 Cotton yarn
I don’t sub to channels that don’t reply! Js
Beautiful very good
Love it-your videos are great!
Thank you so much!
Great instructional.video
. Love it
Thank you for sharing.
thanks for sharing
Just found this video. This stitch looks so neat, but what kind of projects would it be used for?
It would be a great stitch for pot holders or trivets...I used it in my casserole carrier pattern here: hearthookhome.com/casserole-carrier-free-crochet-pattern/
Can this be done in the round as for a hat?
Awesome job!!! 😊
Instagram made it seem so hard. Thank you 😂
Great, thank you!
Where can I get some of those beautiful hooks you are using? 💕
Hi! Those are Furls hooks. They have a website for their hooks and that’s the only place I’ve ever found them.
Is this good for a blanket?
It would be pretty dense, but no holes!
What hook did you use?
Can I make this pattern in to a round trivet?
Yes! That would work great.
What kind of yarn and size hook did you use?
What size hook and which yarn?

I never heard of back loops only on the beginning chain row. That's what I've always done🤔
Will this work for blankets
It would be a wonderfully warm and dense blanket
It is very confusing. Are you going in from the bottom of the stitch?
Was a pattern published using this stitch? I missed it if so.
Yes! The Casserole Carrier hearthookhome.com/casserole-carrier-free-crochet-pattern/
Mine doesn't look like this im doin it wrong... smh... lefty problems
This would keep the homeless people extra warm. I crochet hats and scarves and ear warmers.
I thought back loop was that "lump" at the back 🤔
I'm doing something wrong, just keep getting a fat rope shape instead of the nice flat piece. Ugh
