Could listen this all damn day. John Prine was a true gift to humanity. My mother suffered from Dementia, lost the ability to do everything she loved except one thing- listen to music. John was her favorite. Throw on an album and she'd sit and listen for hours. Slapping her own knee so hard i thought it would leave bruises on her withering body, but it was all she had left.
John Prine was a beautiful brilliant musician because of his lyrics. Amazing songwriter. I miss him. Thanks for being there John and thanks for all the songs.
I live in Nashville, TN. I met John once in a Kroger (grocery store). He was shopping and I didn’t want to bother him. I just shook his hand and said thank you for the music. My favorite of his songs is Angels from Montgomery. He has a way of painting a picture of real life and then noticing the soul that exists underneath it. I used to go to this little hotdog shop called Hot Diggity Dogs just south of Broadway in Nashville. It was the home of Nashville’s Chicago Dog. It closed in 2019. The owner said that John used to come in periodically and get a dog and sit outside and eat it. I hoped I’d run into him one day. Instead, our paths crossed at Kroger. Thanks again John.
They once called him the "new Dylan" but not really true. Dylan certainly was one of his heroes, but he shared none of Dylan's cynicism. Empathy and a gentle sense of humour were at the heart of his genius.
Sat on the front porch for hours listening to his music when I heard the news yesterday. Praying that this Monday is a good day for you John.......Our prayers are with you and your family !!!!!!!
Thanks John, for making me shiver,. Goosebumps on my arm. Rain from my eye turns into a storm. Then I chuckle, cackle, and memories flood me. Listening to your songs all evenin. Shoulda been in bed asleep. Thanks again.
I’m so thankful that we have 50 years of John. You comment made my heart sink. His world isn’t the same and I didn’t know him personally. This man has saved me. Literally saved me. I’ve never and will never be able to hug him. That hurts.

I hesitate to use the word genius but I don't know what other word to use. So, maybe, a down-to-earth American genius. For those who are just starting to listen to him, start with Hello In There.
