This one started off scary but ended just flat out sad. The sandman was not there to hurt anyone but to help james get over his son he had lost.
No, he never had a son. He desperately wanted one, so the sandman made him one. Even the son's room was never actually there.
I find it interesting that majority of the horror comes from the father's fear of the Sandman, not the Sandman it's self.

Its really interesting that even though the creature in this story seems like an extremely kind being and we have no reason to fear him, we still do because of Jame's fear of him.

Twards the end I cryed a little. The sandman doesn't seem that bad, he just wanted to help him out. Although the voice the guy gave him made it better, if i had been through what he'd been through i would want the man to talk with me at least so that i know hes real and the only one who would believe me. The music also helped me by lifting the mood.

This story was very creepy as it progressed, but at the end I had the inclination that the Sandman wasn't a bad person/creature at all. It let the father live his dream of having a son, even if it wasn't forever, and he seemed truly understanding and generous when he had to take his son back. I know that the father didn't remember, but its the same way when one has a dream that they love, but then the memory fades. They still remember how they felt about the dream, even though they can't remember it, and they're glad that were able to experience whatever the dream had been, though sad that they could no longer relive it neither in the present nor the past. I don't know...he just didn't seem bad to me.

The ending makes sense though. The sandman is one who gives you good dreams at night. The sandman may have given him a good dream that may have given him the will the continue on his lonely life. A dream of having a kid to have something to love. Then when he "loses" his son, it could be him coming to terms with the whole thing being projected for him. Though when awake, he stares at areas that may have never even existed as something else, knowing something familiar was there. Having unrecognizable memories of a child he's never met. Then his sleepwalking and the slithering of sand on the ground is him reliving those dreams, while the sandman plays along.. :(

This story kind of made me think that the "Sandman" is not really a bad guy. I thought he would be, looking at him.

Well he made the son out of himself, but he didn't have a reason to kill the dad.
In a way the Sandman is trying his best to continue the sweet dreams of people. I think had he let Daniel existed any longer he would cease to exist himself. And dreams are never meant to last, Daniel's never meant to last. At least, just perhaps, James had a chance to experience being a father and having a child that he loves. Loved.
And poor Sandman has no place in people's hearts, he does all the hard work and at the end of their consciousness gets disgust and hate and anger.

I don't know who wrote this, but the writing is great. One never knows whether the "Sandman" was real, or just all in the father's head, whether or not is was a physical entity or a severe psychological anomaly affecting the father. The creature itself could also be seen as a representation of the harshness of TIME itself, as "sand" often hearkens to the concept of an hourglass, and hourglasses can be used as a symbol of time, especially as a symbol of one's fleeting life-span as is the case with the son in this story. This "Sandman" is time, telling us that we are all mortal.

Wow. That was great. This is probably the only Creepypasta to touch me more than scare me. The sandman, I thought he would be this evil creature who wants to hurt James and Daniel, but it didn't turn out to be that way. Maybe I'm half mad, but it almost appeared to me that maybe this sandman wasn't all that bad. There isn't a lot of backstory to go on, but it seems like James wanted a kid more than anything, and the sandman gave him one. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever, but that doesn't make this sandman character evil. He didn't hurt anyone or kill anyone. Sure, he gave James a scare but who wouldn't be frightened? Still, that's not the sandman's fault.
Also did anyone else catch the idea that Abigail did the same thing James did?
This story had a huge twist. Not gonna lie at 28 minutes i started and still am crying. Losing a child is such an emotional task.
