The most dangerous time for a battered woman to leave her abuser is when she announces to him that the relationship is over. Therefore, never, I repeat never tell the perpetrator you are going to leave, just leave without any notice.

You are right! This same thing happened to my Aunt and her two baby girls. She told him if he didn’t pay his child support or turned himself in that she would leave him if he got more than a year in jail.. He snapped and wrote a manifesto to Montell Williams and weeks later he strangled her, her two baby girls, his teenage son and daughter, light the whole farm on fire and then stabbed himself in the heart. This happened in December of 99 in Lonsdale MN it truly horrified me and I miss her dearly! Never tell an abusive man that you are going to leave, just up and go!

I grew up in a domestic violent home. My Dad would punch my Mom as if he were hitting a man. One of my earliest memories is watching him break a mirror over my Mom's face. He then dragged out our Christmas tree, and said Santa isn't coming this year. You should have been good. This is what happens to bad girls and boys. I remember my heart shattering as I heard those words and watched blood dripping from my Mom's face onto the wrapping paper on our dining room table. To this day, I won't ever buy wrapping paper with wreaths on them. It just brings me back to that place and time. A place that, thank goodness, I no longer live in. My poor mother didn't know what to do, or where to go. Shelters were few and far between in those days. And police departments called situations like this "family matters" that need to be dealt with behind closed doors. Domestic violence doesn't just destroy the victim. It makes the children into helpless victims, that in many cases are scarred for life. I've came a long way. I still have a ways to go in my therapy.

Brian Laundrie flew to Florida then back to the van in August 17th to the 23rd before Gabby was announced as having died. The probably truth is she was most likely dead before he took the flight back to Florida and most of the public do not have this information. The likely scenario is that he killed her between August 13th and the 16th right after the police asked the couple if everything's alright on August 12th.

what I always wonder about strangling, is how it takes only seconds to choke someone unconscious but like 5 minutes before the brain even begins to develop actual damage. meaning that to strangle someone dead you're required to keep strangling them HARD for minutes AFTER they go limp. strangling a little won't do it, you need to close all 4 arteries completely to even get them unconscious. otherwise they'll just wake up. so when I hear the excuses of someone doing it 'accidentally' or in the 'heat of the moment', that must be absolute bullshit, right? they kept strangling the victim for 5-10 minutes after they went limp, just to be sure they'd die. they 100% meant to do it and went out of their way to keep strangling the victim.

Also, the strength needed to physically strangle a person to death is often underestimated by the killer and they may need to loosen their grip just to get a stronger hold. But a very personal, up close method. And it must have been absolutely horrific for this beautiful girl. They get pulled over for DV and a frightened, 22-year-old Gabby almost goes to Jail for the first time. I'm sure this made quite an impression. Then the officer used the incident to explain what happened between him and his ex-wife, and why couples who both have anxiety shouldn't be together. "Look at the situations you can get in," he said. I think she took it to heart and started questioning the relationship. Probably reached out to friends & family for additional advice/support afterward. The best skills to teach our daughters are:
1- teach them about boundaries, self-respect, knowing the difference between toxic relationship & healthy one, communicate with trusted loved ones, and when to leave - at the very first sign of abuse without letting him know her plans.
2- self-defense training - encourage her to get that black belt so she can kick butt when she needs to!
3- Teach her that how people treat her is not a reflection of who she are. It is a reflection of who those people... to walk away. Don’t stay where she’s tolerated and then blame herself; go where she’s appreciated and is safe.
This applies to all genders and age because even as adults we need to hear this.

Let me make this clear there is no such thing as a "crime of passion", that is a term invented by defense lawyers for the purpose of a lesser sentence for their clients. To strangle and or stabbing someone you have an intimate relationship with someone you supposedly care about is caused by a lack of self-control, a lack of controlling your emotion, and a lack of empathy. Its word salad and a form of gaslighting the Judge and Jury as well as the public.

I can’t prove it now, but my instinct told me he throttled her even before the autopsy was performed. I knew because the police in Moab did not see any blows that they considered sufficient for charges to be given even though there was a witness to the domestic abuse. If Gabby had a black eye because he punched her, they would’ve arrested him on the spot. That is probable cause. Brian Laundrie is extremely calculating for a man with an obvious temper, he is the worst kind of narcissist because even in his abusive behavior towards Gabby, he left nothing physical that would make it immediately apparent to outsiders what kind of a monster he is. Poor Gabby. She lied in her interview with police in order to protect him from ruin, because she had feelings for him. But true love doesn’t protect people from the consequences of their actions if they rightly deserve it. Gabby should have said, “yes, he was hitting me.” He was making her life a misery and I think she made the mistake of telling him to his face later that she had had enough. Abusers don’t deserve the kind of courtesy that other breakups should have. After Moab, and they were separated for the night and she was given the keys to her van, the smart thing would’ve been to take her van and head for home and let him find his own way back to Florida. His own folks could come and pick him up. Continuing with the trip after Moab was a huge mistake. The point is, no matter how much you care for someone, if they are punching you or using psychological games to make your life a daily misery, do yourself and them both a favor and run for your life. Get out while you can. The only kind of men who use their women in that way are cowards and fiends. Real men don’t do that even when they’re under pressure.
