I think the saddest part about this is that Rundas doesn’t say ANYTHING throughout the entire experience. Before he was corrupted, he was a cocky showoff that loved boasting about his own strength, and once he gets corrupted he’s reduced to nothing more than some strange noises.
Yeah that sucks, he was in my opinion a better choice to be the final hunter to beat, he is extremely powerfull, i mean, he destroyed 4 pirate ships in norion in 4 seconds, he is the one who helps samus the most in norion too. But well
I never picked up that he was cocky or boastful. I just thought he was one of those zealous and passionate, naive young soldiers who was indeed very powerful but suffered a terrible fate of being corrupted. It was hard to tell with the somewhat chill, monotone voice of his. EDIT: I just read the wiki on him. He was pretty cocky and arrogant, but was easygoing, especially toward Samus. Kind of makes him the Metroid version of Mirage from Apex Legends.

I think its a testament to the writing of this game that they genuinely make you feel sad when facing the 3 hunters even though you barely interact with them

After he reaches out for Samus he turns his head in confusion as if some thing is about to happen that’s out of his control. He then gets impaled by his own ice when Dark Samus shows up. I think that Dark Samus killed him to prevent Samus from growing stronger from gaining new allies, Because Dark Samus knows how much of a threat the real Samus is.
I agree, he didn't seem to display any behaviour indicating that he did it himself. Considering how powerful a fighter he was, it's logical that Dark Samus would want to remove him as a potential ally of Samus. That and to rub salt into the wound.

I legit cried after this battle when i was a kid, i felt terrible that we really had to fight and kill the homie. The battle theme really adds another layer to that feeling that can only be understood through experience
first time i fought rundas i didn't fully understand hypermode so i fought the entire battle with just my charge beam and missiles and it took 30 minutes
Same. I thought this game was really hard and had really hard and marathon bosses. Then I found out how to use hyper mode on subsequent play throughs and its actually one of the easiest games in the series. Also Rundas literally can take like one minute to beat if you know what you're doing.
I really feel like he should have been the last hunter to fight. It obviously makes more sense that Gandrayda is the one on the Pirate homeworld due to her copy ability, but still. Rundas should have helped you throughout the game in different sections only to become corrupted near the end. It would have given the fight a lot more gravity.
This is one of the best battles of the Metroid series, along with Gandrayda, Mother brain (Super Metroid), the Dark Samus elevator fight, Metroid Prime, Queen Metroid (Samus Returns), and Phantoon(Other M).
Other m had some banger bosses. The bull dozer, Nightmare, the Fire Fish thing. It had some cool ones. The story is absolutely atrocious still. But its gameplay isn't actually terrible. Also Dread has some of the best bosses in the series. And say what you will about Other m, but without the lessons learned from that game Dread wouldn't be as good as it is. Other m walked so Dread could run.

This was the battle where I noticed that the Power Beam was weaker than in the previous 2 Primes. In those games, you could fire the Power Beam as fast as you could press the shoot button, but in Prime 3, you can only fire a few shots at a time. After that, your beam will charge instead of fire.
When i first played this game his death shocked me. I was expecting him to return back to normal and thanking Samus. Instead he gets brutally stabbed by his own ice-pillars.

It's a hype fight and all of that but, You're fighting a dark samus- possessed Rundus. He essentially has no will of his own and is thus under "Corruption" Once the player realizes that, You're either screaming internally trying not to kill Rundus, But you know...If you don't kill him, Then he kills you. You know it's 'Kill or be Killed' so samus is left with no choice but to carry out her duty. It''s sad but in a way, The only way to progress. (I mean, Technically in game terms, He would be just "Removed from the game" until you beat the game and return on hard mode and veteran mode respectively.
I think rundas was very powerful, but I think samus was his weakness. He cared about samus, and was making sure dark samus didn't overwhelm samus with his power. Dark samus really could have challenged samus if he had full control over rundas, but I'm just theorizing.
saddest thing about Rundas death is he came back to himself just before dying impaled you can see him confused and then suffering while getting pierced through with the ice

I guess making him not speak was meant to show the extent to which corruption and Dark Samus can change and control beings, in this case shifting his personality to the exact opposite. As for why Samus was not affected like that, it's been a long time since I last played the game. But I think it was because the other guys used Phazon with no restrictions, eventually becoming corrupted. I think if you remain in Hypermode (?) for a long time, you actually became corrupted too.

wow im shocked by how much better it looks for me at just 1080p 2x AA on my MacBook it runs smooth as butter to once I found the right settings. Prob around 120 fps but I should find out for sure. I could prob crank it up but I don't want to waste battery it look stunning right now to be honest.

Prime 2 was received less favorably than the first game. When Retro was developing the next Prime, it's pretty clear they wanted to address everything that people disliked about Prime 2. One of those criticisms was that the game's color palette was too dark and drab. That might be why Prime 3 has a much more vibrant, almost comic book look to it.

That Ice Hammer is also the reason why you are encouraged to use Hypermode to kill him as quickly as possible. So that you do not have to face that attack more than once.

Prime 2 was received less favorably than the first game. When Retro was developing the next Prime, it's pretty clear they wanted to address everything that people disliked about Prime 2. One of those criticisms was that the game's color palette was too dark and drab. That might be why Prime 3 has a much more vibrant, almost comic book look to it.

That's the neat part, you don't. You have to stun him before he launches the attack. That Ice Hammer is also the reason why you are encouraged to use Hypermode to kill him as quickly as possible. So that you do not have to face that attack more than once.
