This fight against Ridley was one of the most remarkable bossfights I've ever had. Who ever got the idea to fight Ridley in a scenario of constant falling is a damn genius.
@@v.3314-t1w definitely one of my favourite things about this fight. It feels desperate for all sides. Samus can't fly (well, without space jump...), and Ridley can, but inside the pipe section he doesn't have enough space to flap his wings effectively, so he resorts to scrape his claws against the walls. This makes this whole fight feel desperate and chaotic, and I love it! Also, Meta Ridley... The freaking cybernetically enhanced space dragon with solar sails for wings. Definitely one of the absolute coolest designs ever. The shot of him flying through outer space to Tallon IV was absolutely breathtaking
@@nolanstrife7350 he clearly thought this through, he's willing to tear Samus to ribbons, no matter how close to death he has to get. He wants her DEAD, and I do mean DEAD, even if it kills him, He. Will. Win.
I know Ridley is a recurring enemy, but this was one of the biggest surprises for me. Not only because this was Meta Ridley from the first game, but they even reused his theme, like a big nostalgia trip to one of my favorite boss fights ever
Though the boss fight was enjoyable, I still wished that Kraid had shown up on Norio instead, with Ridley later appearing on the Pirate Homeworld. Or vice versa.
Scratch that. Retro Studios had no business flexing on us as hard as they did with this entire trilogy. Hard to believe that they were just some humble studio in Texas who had never shipped a single game prior to MP1.
Remember that fight Gandalf the grey had with that Balrog of morgoth from lord of the rings? Yeah this was that but with a mecha pterodactyl dragon and a woman with space armor and a canon for an arm.
Of course it is! Because it's wii remote pointer aiming & nunchuck controls(Set to advanced) blow everything out of the water based on what's currently available consoles. Aka gyro motion, which is straight up inferior because it has no sensor bar/reference. MP3's aiming was revolutionary back in 2007-ish, and the game itself imo is easily the greatest in the trilogy. VR motion controls are an evolution of the Wii remote & nuchuck, like the Quest Pro's controllers for example, that very well be even more accurate than Quest 3's.
It's like Halo, the difference being Halo puts in a lot of effort for realism and complex backstories for everything and overall has done a great job of fleshing out that universe. In comparison, Metroid is more experimental with its ideas and puts more effort into design rather than lore for amazing gameplay. There are even similarities between the 4 'types of enemies' you face in each game - a large malevolent organisation spanning multiple species (the covenant or banished / space pirates) wants to use a powerful weapon (the Halo rings / the Metroids) which the protagonist eventually destroys. Said weapon was created to stop an even more dangerous parasite (the Flood / the X) by an ancient, morally dubious at best civilisation (the Forerunners / the Chozo) from which a controversial leader (the Didact / Raven Beak) is still alive and fights the protagonist due to a wish for dominion (taking the Mantle of Responsibility / using Metroids as a weapon) and a personal grudge (his wife wanted humans to have the Mantle after the Forerunners were gone / Samus threw a wrench in his plan by destroying the Metroids, setting loose the X and therefore killing RB's army)
Samus: " You're out of ice, you can't be out of ice!" Rundas: "It means it's hot, and I'm dehydrated Samus!" Samus: "I thought you could use the water from the air!" Rundas: "There is no water in this air! What's your excuse? Run out of power beam?" The Incredibles reference btw.
@@religiousjedi Prime 2 is great yeah, I still really like it. I'm just saying 3 blows the first 2 so far out of the water it's insane lol. It really surprised me my first time through and imo really proves the potential of the series. That sequence where you release the metroids is another huge highlight. it kinda gave me Half Life vibes. 3's still by far my favorite but 2 is definitely my 2nd
Then Samus slips from Rundas' arm because he is icy and slippery. She dies and every metroid game taking place after is retconned so that Rundas is the protagonist.
I wish retro studios would port this over to Quest 3. The next logical step for the Prime series is VR. Not even the switch can replicate how amazing the wii remote and nunchuck were when 3 debuted back in 2008-ish. The joy-cons are awful and have no sensor for reliable accurate pointer aiming. Prime remastered feels like a big step back compared to what Prime 3 did all those years ago.
No wonder he became all mechanized, falling from a giant shaft 16.5 Km at terminal velocity cannot be shrugged off. Also this fight in hypermode is FIRE!!!
That Ridley boss fight is great not just because of how much fun it is, but also the fact that it resembles one of the best fantasy movie openings. It not only serves as a good homage but also a stand alone. If you’re unfamiliar (highly doubtful that you are) The opening scene in “The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers” has the character Gandalf battle a giant fire dragon demon, the balrog. Samus is fighting her lifelong enemy in a similar way. Both scenes end differently. This one ends with Ridley’s defeat but Gandalf amd the balrog didn’t stop fighting when they landed.
0:51 Love how he says "heck" and also is immediately made insecure about his ability to be in control of the situation after having just expressed confidence in being able to do so with his PED suit.
And to think: canonically in 3 games from this she has a PTSD episode and freezes up when she sees Ridley TL;DR: Other M sucks, long live the Prime Trilogy
A 17 km tunnel! Earth's radius is 6km btw. The Galactic Federation have amazing excavation tools to do such a thing. It literally goes to the core of the planet

The guy who watched gandalf fight durin’s bane
The idea to have Ridley ‘falling’ backwards, using his talons to stablize his descent while firing at Samus? Was brilliant af
