    Great point about COVID and wanting instead of working from home, working from a boat. This is only the beginning. The current heat in the boat market is not going to go away - it's going to heat up even more. People working remotely liked it - they don't want to go back to offices. Home is great but a boat is even better. Boats - especially catamarans - have gotten better and better (more windows!), more comfortable, safer and more reliable, better equipment, electronics, better information: weather, digital charts, radar, sonar, etc, etc. Better communications AIS, EPIRB, Iridium - even internet (while waiting for StarLink I've learned that ViaSat already connects yachts to the internet anywhere on the planet.) Double or triple production - all those boats will be snapped up. Me? I've got a cat on order, but if my stocks have another phenomenal year I will be hammering at the door of HH.

Being tall, it's very noticeable when you're below decks and there's a mere 25 to 45 mm of space overhead on a hot day. Things warm up below the deck and under coachroof very quickly. Love how light the furniture components are too.

    Looks amazing and it's the perfect size. I wish I could afford a boat like this.
    Like so many of the new Euro-style boats, the cabinets, countertops and tables look to have very square corners. 10-20 years ago, these were much more rounded which I think is preferable at sea. The downside being that rounded are harder to build and offer less storage.

    • @HHCatamarans
      @HHCatamarans  2 года назад +3

      We agree. Our counters are rounded for this very reason. We failed to mention that, and the fact that we painstakingly curve the stone counter material to achieve this effect. It is certainly more expensive and time consuming to do it this way, but it is a much better look than two pieces cut into a 90 degree corner (and functional for safety too). Thanks for noticing!

    Well, you folks are to be commended. It's not easy riding the wave of change inside a very traditional industry and way of life.
    This ex SV engineer and start up pro thinks what you're doing is AWESOME. I have zillions of questions about the HH52...most especially specs and technical detail. I'm finally on a journey to get my 1st blue water cruiser and H2O based pied a terre.
    The timeline is prolly around a year, and the HH52 has me pretty excited.
    I'm most interested in the specs regarding the basics, like specs of the components. Also, run times and typical recharge times for a couple different weather pictures would be nice to see. Like cloudy day/sunny day type info.
    I'm mostly asking because I want to do some extensive upgrading, regarding load capacity and probably additional batteries. The boat is going to be a part time live aboard, and I'm one of those that needs and screams for more aH to power all the sweet tech I'm gonna retrofit.
    Are folks jazzed up about Starlink Maritime? Elon is kicking more ass and I love it. I know a lot of folks with the tech and have not heard a bad word. The pricing is stupendous compared to the usual companies and gear needed for 24/7 bulletproof data. My "retirement career" demands it. I just saw pricing on SL Maritime and think I read 1000 bucks a month for unlimited up to 1TB monthly at 250mbps. That's somewhere around 90% cheaper than the big boys who have a tiny customer base in the global market. And jeepers did I almost faint from the costs from Inmarsat, for example.
    Anyhoo, it's lonely being a business early adopter and sell and compete in a marketplace that is gonna have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the future. You folks are doing it passionately and thoughtfully. I imagine you are a family business, and maybe that's father and son I've been watching. Great stuff either way as far as the tech talks.
    Thanks for your efforts and one way or the other, you are on the short list of candidates. ⛵

For a boat this size the helm position makes the most sense to me and I think the overall layout is much better on this boat. A fascinating boat, perhaps some will opt for a reserve generator / engine and ditch the twin engines. Although having seen Sailing Nahoa's need to travel much of the Indian Ocean under diesel engine due to light/no wind, I would be interested how a hybrid system would cope with that + aircon. I'm sure the excellent weight savings throught the boat from carbon fibre to an expertly constructed interior will result in both swift sailing performance and less energy under power.

    Love the layout and those forward opening windows will be fantastic at anchor, this boat is going to sell extremely well! Is there a seating area for when the helms are canted towards the outside or is the intent that you’d stand in that position?

    • @HHCatamarans
      @HHCatamarans  2 года назад +3

      Yes, there is a seat that folds down from the side of the hull. Here's a picture of what that looks like: drive.google.com/file/d/1iRnKGXwqr3CGM8v8F04UWSsetqL63s2W/view?usp=sharing

    • @HHCatamarans
      @HHCatamarans  2 года назад +5

      We felt the same, but there is always a trade off with design. By adding a backrest it makes the seat too thick and it will not fold flush with the hull in the up position. We assume most users will have pillows in the Cockpit they can use to lean up against, which might be more comfortable too. For this reason we kept it as designed. Lots of thought went into this helm station!

    • @kirkb3473
      @kirkb3473 2 года назад +1

      @@HHCatamarans this is just an idea, but since HH has the expertise in making custom carbon fiber components, an elegant solution would be to put two titanium bushing in the fold down seat platform. You could then have a back rest made with the carbon fiber exposed look that would drop into those bushings. It could be stored easily and not take up any room, plus look fantastic and high end for relatively little cost. You’d only need one because it would fit both sides. Guaranteed everyone buying this boat would tick that box on the options list!

    I like the idea of turning one of the forward cabins into office/work storage space but I can’t help wondering whether people would prefer that to be on the owner’s hull. I’ve never really understood the need to have an enormous bathroom taking up an entire forward cabin. I would prefer a mid ship bathroom like on the non-owners hull side and turn the forward space into a nice space with a large desk/ work table, comfortable chair and extra storage space, extra fridge, washing machine, etc. What do people with existing owner hull cats think?

    • @HHCatamarans
      @HHCatamarans  Год назад

      The issue for live-aboards is that if you move the head to the middle of the hulls then you remove all the cabinets and lockers for clothes storage. The boat also feels more cramped. Of all the cats we have ever built, less than 10% have been four cabin models.

    • @svkimbara5829
      @svkimbara5829 Год назад

      @@HHCatamarans Hi, I appreciate the reply. I suppose what I was suggesting is not to get rid of the concept of an owner's hull but to reconfigure the owner's hull with the sleeping area aft, a bathroom mid-hull, and then a forward (private) multi-purpose area (it wouldn't even have to have a door) which could be used as a walk in cupboard/dressing room/office/workbench area. The storage that would have been mid-hull would be forward instead. The problem with replacing one of the guest cabins with such an area is you cut down on the number of guests you can have at once. It is fine for younger guests to sleep up top in the living area, but i think as you get a bit older you do appreciate a bit of privacy.
      I might be looking at this from too 'male' a perspective and the size of bathroom may be more important to others. I also appreciate that my suggested configuration may not be the most efficient use of the available volume in that hull - would need your clever design team to do the calculations.

  • @jimheaven

    I still don’t understand why you would go for parallel hybrid over series hybrid. I have a BMW i3 Ranger Extender which is a series hybrid. The generator can hold charge in the batteries, or charge the batteries, or run the electric motors completely when the batteries are almost gone. However a sail boat also has solar panels and it can charge the batteries when sailing via the prop. There are also sails after all for wind power! So it’s all completely reliable and safe with multiple back ups and fail safe. In my opinion you should have two strong electric propulsion engines in each hull. That is simple and reliable and also has the safety of two engines giving redundancy. Then you only need one or two generators, which can maintain the battery charge level indefinitely if required as long as there is fuel to run them. But on top of that, sailing generates electric power from a reverse prop and solar adds to it as well. Having two heavy Diesel engines with the added complication of a parallel system isn’t the best of both worlds it is in fact neither one thing or the other and doesn’t fully realise the advantages of going al in with electric. You just need a generator to maintain the charge on the battery if required. All catamarans should be fitted out like this nowadays. Engines do not need to directly drive the props and should only be used to fill the batteries when needed.

    • @HHCatamarans
      @HHCatamarans  Год назад +1

      We look at it another way. Why have a Diesel motor in a boat that can't spin a prop when needed? Everything you say is correct about solar and wind power, but in a Parallel hybrid you are not solely relying on a single system - you have parallel systems. If one part fails, you can reply on the other system.
