Yep. They made the video solely based on the US market, while there are other countries where Motorola is still pretty successful (like Brazil). The only thing that could really save Motorola is that the US government requires all cellphones sold in the USA be "unlocked." That means the cellphone user can choose whatever model cellphone they want regardless of carrier.

it is 2022 and i still bought a motorola smartphone because i love the way they cameback in the mobility world and makes me motivated so i chose the company.
I never had a Motorola phone or any cell-phone, but I did have a Motorola walkie-talkie & car-radio! As a N.Y. State Peace officer, I can say that this brand was the most reliable of any kind that I had in my 27 year career! For whatever reason, our dept. switched brands a number of times, but they never lasted as long as the Motorola ones! I always say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Right, like the other companies aren't. A simple answer for simpletons, senior leadership in the phone division made some poor marketing decisions many years ago, then other companies were able to make cheaper phones that offered more things.
I was going to say, I can remember pulling my razr out back then and people would always say “that a nice phone, must cost a fortune.” No $100.00 with a contract. Those were the days.
Raindear Games I have a G7, its battery is really good. However performance can improve a lot, compared to other budget phones like the Pocofone. Also, Motorola is pretty much the budget phone of choice here in the U.S. It gets stuff done for a cheap price.
Why so many telling that lenovo destroyed Motorola. Motorola wasn't managed correctly by Google. As a result it became bad luck for Google so they sold it to lenovo
@@Boxhead42 lets be honest the pixels are just a half hearted effort. i mean once even microsoft tried their hands on this and we all know what happened
I worked in the cellphone biz from 1998-2004. Motorola not only built good products. They serviced them well too. I wish Motorola success in the future. Personally I prefer when Ericsson and Nokia built not only good phones, but all the switches and infrastructure equipment. Now companies from China like Huawei will just help China in it's covert world domination.
What this piece doesn't make clear is that when Google bought Motorola they also bought around 2500 patents. They sold it 18 months later with 250 patents retaining the rest. For Google, it was never about owning or growing the business, it was only ever a way to get the technology. Since Lenovo took over they have failed to market it at all relying only on social media where they are only able to penetrate existing customers/fans. I've used Moto Zs for the last 4 years and every single person I've shown the mods to has been blown away - and that includes sales assistants in the Apple store! Mods are now coming towards the end of their life (Z4 is only available in the US) but even a modest advertising budget would have reaped dividends earlier in their cycle. Aside from the demise in the face of the rise of Apple, in my opinion there has been massive mismanagement on the part of Lenovo which has been instrumental in their continued decline.
Haven't completed watching the story yet, but imho they make better hardware than software--I never cared for their OS/UI compared to Samsung and Siemens phones of the RZR era. Once Apple launched the iPhone, t'was the beginning of the end for Motorola. Gotta give Google some major credit for coming up with a feasible alternative to iOS in Android. In doing so, Google basically leapfrogged not only Motorola, but Nokia and every other pre-smartphone no one even remembers now, including the Palm Treo, which I believe would have been the gold standard of smart phones if they would have come out with the 320x480 screen utilizing a virtual keyboard instead of staying with the BlackBerry style hard keyboard. Apple's real innovation was the App Store and downloading apps wirelessly without the Palm Hotsync cradle. Great story!
The moon landing transmission was received and rebroadcast from Australia, which is on the other side of the international date line from the United states. So both time stamps are correct, from a certain point of view.
I remember back in the 90's when Motorola came out with the STAR TAC and then MICRO TAC with GSM capability. Motorola phones then were competing against Siemens, Nokia, Ericsson, Alcatel but Nokia had them all beat out. I moved to the US in the early 2000's and I couldn't believe that they have not heard of GSM before. GSM in Europe and in Asia was already up and running in the mid-90's.
Great video. One thing you forgot to mention is that Motorola was actually very important in the birth of personal computers, as it produced the CPUs of some of them. In fact, the processor in the first Apple Macintosh was from Motorola. Funny how Apple ended up indirectly crashing Motorola some 25-30 years later.
I have bought G power phones, very pleased for now with the quality and much cheaper than main stream top notch ones. Good performance for my needs and never had issues with the 3 phones. I also have a modem which is about 8 years old and still going strong!
Same here used the ZForce2 for awhile now dropped it many times. Replaced the extra screen protector twice and still working so well. Plus slowly adding my mods.
Nothing happened to Motorola, they're just fine. Apple has cut it's way into the market and somehow convinced millions of people that their products are actually relevant and worth their price (which, sorry to tell you, they aren't either of those things) and Samsung was the one to step up and be their main check. Motorola still releases really good phones on a regular basis, there just happens to be more competition than when they started.
I completely agree with everything you said! I used Motorola's Budget Devices (E-Series and G-Series). I love those devices. Battery Life is what I love the most.
Good is subjective, Apples phones are plenty good and worth the price, as do Samsungs phones, Googles Pixels, and others. Just cause it is not worth it to you does not mean it is not good.
Heroe / that is clearly not objective. But a highly biased opinion. Fact: they are expensive. Not Fact: they are not worth it. Ofc you can get better value for less. But worth it? That depends on the person. You cant just be like hurr Durr, apples expensive, you're stupid for buying them. Yeah supercars are expensive and you can get much better value with even half the price of one. But that doesn't mean it's not worth it to someone.
@@heroe1486 The Apple brand will eventually struggle , smart phones are like a belly button, everybody has one but it isn't anything special. Then, what can Apple do when the other similar brands are less expensive? Android does what I need, so I don't spend more

One of the best phones I ever had until my battery went bad and I couldn’t get a new battery for it and my other phones I had after was LG and Samsung, both garbage.
I loved my Razr, probably the most of all my phones. Started getting into video calls and games, but the OS died off so was not transferable to Android. Hope to see the Razr do well!
What is not mentioned that Motorola burned some bridges. I worked in a repair shop for a major electronics retailer. Many brands along with Motorola were sold and supported by my company. Motorola wanted my company to display the Motorola M "bat wings" on the street front of the shops in 1999. My company said no to that as there was no room to put up the 18 or so major brands we supported in front. My shop was in a brick building with no windows except the door. A small awning that the landlord put up with our business name only. They gave shoddy support with us for the remainder of the contract. I repaired their cellphone and business band radio products. They were so proud of the bat wings that these were enlarged for video pickup on the headsets of the coaches along the sidelines at the televised sporting events. They did not pay for advertising for this.

He said it was going to be "painful" but something that was needed to survive and get back to basics.. I was so impressed because he was honest.. I was a little over my head because RF and spectrum is very complex - so I departed and went back to the utility business. It was a great experience. Thank you Moto.
Surprised you didn't mention Motorola's StarTac. It was more exciting when it came out than the Razer.
And it's reception still better than any of the new digital phones.
Yeah I couldn't believe they missed that one.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. It was the first flip phone I remember and all the celebrities were touting it. I still have mine.
I used it as a toy spaceship when I was a kid. Really cool at the time.
Amen! I remember back in 1990 I was living in San Diego when I saw the first Star-Tac in a glass case. The phone was $1999 and did NOT come with a cell plan you to purchase that separately from US West in the neighborhood of $200-$300 per month and it was selling fast.
Watching this from my Motorola edge 5G which has been working flawlessly for the past three years
Motorola is like a Phoenix rising from the ashes!💯 Hello Moto 😉
I love my MOTO phone . Big bang for bucks .
I'm still rocking a Motorola. My first two phone's were Startac's . To my current phone being Moto G7. Never owned a Razr due to it not being on my carrier. And just like the iPhone, I wasn't willing to switch carrier's to get one at the time.

I just purchased the G7 Power my first Motorola since 2005 I'm just tired of Samsung and I'm not paying $1000 for a phone so I'm very happy and feel great about giving Moto a chance so far I love the phone . Hello Moto.
The Moto G7 Power is amazing, and the near stock feel of the Moto brand is what makes it even better
Got one myself, battery last friggin forever. For a under 300$ you can't beat it
@@johnrossi2516 bought one secondhanded for 130 and it's better than 2 of my last phones even compared when they were new (galaxy s5 then iphone 6)
Watching on a G7 power rn. The speaker could use some love but it's still a 5/5 especially for the chop for flashlight and twist for camera functions, I use them all the time.
Motorola world's most ancient brand , I'm watching with my Motorola one power ❤️✨ #hellomoto
My phone is also moto one power. One year after my friends phone got slower, or facing some kind if issue, but moto is still working fine.
@@pulastochoudhury5319 s bro Motorola means quality durability same me and my friend bought some time mobile I bought Motorola one power and he got Asus ZenFone Max pro m2 now that mobile broken and also facing lag but my device Motorola rocks 💪❤️
Google didn't get less when they sold motorola, they got most of their patents
well let face it.. they do nothing...
I own a moto phone, and it pretty good quality and economical.
I had a Razor for 10 years! Great phone, now use G5 plus. Want to see it survive.
They were sitting under the tree when Apple fell on top of them.
Well played 👏
That deserved way more thumbs up
I have the Motorola G7+. It's an outstanding phone at a sensible price. For me it replaced a Samsung tablet, an Apple iphone and a desktop computer. I'm running it with 256gb expandable storage. We'll see if the next generation is just as good.
When you are first, doesn't means you'll thrive in the business forever.
I have a Motorola cellphone it's 5 years old and still going
My iPhone is 7 years still going perfect
@@jordansmith3597 but that is expected because it is a flagship device. People have to learn the Apple is not the best.
One downside for Motorola, that is not talked about, is the fact Samsung and other phones were on the shelf as a equal competitor. Motorola phones are not on the shelf at Costco for example.
Because they are paying enough for advertising, & heard by word to word. I only gone buy Motorola now on I have been buying for two years
Same like Sony phones or Sony Ericsson phones. Remember the P-Series?
I love my moto E5 dropped this thing so many times and still no cracks or scratches
Bish I'm watching this on a Motorola and it's one of the more reliable phones I've had
No one said they weren't good phones just that the brand is struggling.
That sounds disappointing
Broke🤤
Same. Switched from iPhone and never went back (and never going to). It's a great cheap smartphone, plain and simple.
Moto Z4 here.
I had a Razr back when I was finishing high school. Was probably my favourite cell
The Motorola Razar Was the iPhone of the mid 2000’s Until the iPhone they killed them.
Yup for Christmas I got the pink limited addition one in middle school everyone thought I was "rich" na I was just spoiled by a father that worked 100 hours a week to spoil me
I had such phone back in 2007...It was very cool ...I have another Motorola now but it ain't the same...the best phones now are Samsung and Huawei
Razr II?
I just purchased a Motorola smart phone. I love it. It's a steal of a deal for me as a consumer.
The only thing that could really save Motorola is that the US government requires all cellphones sold in the USA be "unlocked." That means the cellphone user can choose whatever model cellphone they want regardless of carrier.
My first introduction to cell phones was Motorola MicroTAC in 1990...used it a good deal at work on AT&T network; have been AT&T customer last thirty years, and I have had the pleasure of seeing the cellular phone system regularly increase in usability and reliability.
I still ride with Motorola in 2019! I'm still rockin my Moto Z Force 2 and I still love it!!! Got my eye on the Z 4 for my next phone tho.
it is 2022 and i still bought a motorola smartphone because i love the way they cameback in the mobility world and makes me motivated so i chose the company.
Watching on Motorola mobile 😉😊
I never had a Motorola phone or any cell-phone, but I did have a Motorola walkie-talkie & car-radio! As a N.Y. State Peace officer, I can say that this brand was the most reliable of any kind that I had in my 27 year career! For whatever reason, our dept. switched brands a number of times, but they never lasted as long as the Motorola ones! I always say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
They made great TVs in the 1950’s and 60’s. I have a good few.
AL TV collector Motorola had tv called quasar until Motorola sold off quasar to Matsushita electric
The new razr 2024 plus is dope AF.
I'm definitely pulling for them, for me they make the best budget smartphones.
Watching this on a motorola g51 phone, it's the best phone I've ever had
7:55 HTC: Don't mind me, just losing marketshare faster than other companies
That's a shame, HTC has nice phones.
I still ride with Motorola. They're good phones. I just bought another one. The Moto G Stylus.
The same thing like to GM, GE, Boeing - uncontrolled greed...
Finally someone said it!
I love how it is now called a ‘foldable’ phone. It’s a flip phone!!
I love Motorola phones. More durable than Samsung imo.
I've had a Moto G7 power all year and it's quite frankly the best phone I've ever had. Period.
Just got a G7 power a couple weeks back. Been the first time I was ever able to go multiple days between charges, and that's me using my phone HEAVILY
I have a G6 and the battery is awesome. I have had the G5 before that and the battery was better than the 6
I've just bought one and the battery is impressive
Raindear Games I have a G7, its battery is really good. However performance can improve a lot, compared to other budget phones like the Pocofone. Also, Motorola is pretty much the budget phone of choice here in the U.S. It gets stuff done for a cheap price.
Who said they fell? They seem to be doing well
like motorola , i would love to see also sony with their old sony-ericcson walkman, to do a flagship and innovative smartphone
I have a Motorola E4 it’s the best phone I have ever had.
I still use a motorola smart phone. Best phone I've ever had. I'd never be caught dead with an apple phone or any apple product.
I have never met or seen anyone with a google phone.
Shspurs1 go to google headquarters. Any location, in any country. Bet they all carry a dumb google phone
Why so many telling that lenovo destroyed Motorola. Motorola wasn't managed correctly by Google. As a result it became bad luck for Google so they sold it to lenovo
nah google just wanted patents they didnt care about handsets. they basically sucked out the blood
Because it's owned by China. You can't trust them now.
@@ktolwal "They didn't care about handsets"......So explain the pixel series?
BoxHead 42 you mean the deeply flawed Pixel?
@@Boxhead42 lets be honest the pixels are just a half hearted effort. i mean once even microsoft tried their hands on this and we all know what happened
I worked in the cellphone biz from 1998-2004. Motorola not only built good products. They serviced them well too. I wish Motorola success in the future. Personally I prefer when Ericsson and Nokia built not only good phones, but all the switches and infrastructure equipment. Now companies from China like Huawei will just help China in it's covert world domination.
I'm watching this on a Moto g6
Same here
The battery in my g6 went out
same
What this piece doesn't make clear is that when Google bought Motorola they also bought around 2500 patents.
If the razor is still for sale, I'll get one. My iPhones are useless once the IOS needs an upgrade.
Just get the Z flip over the razer 2020. Legitimately better in any way
Yeah they are 1,500 dollars..
I had Galaxy, LG, Blackberry & I Stick for the battery with Motorola it last for ever I travel a lot, so is the best phone for me..
I swear the moon landing was on July 20, 1969 but on that video it says July 21, 1969
Great catch. The moon landing was July 20, 1969 so the video is wrong.
Im using a Motorola cellphone.
My First mobile was from Motorola... 😊
Motorola C168 with color display and FM Radio
First, a cell phone is a radio transceiver then all of the other functions in your smart phone.are add ins. Motorola makes the best radios.
I personally think that I could not have done better for the money than my E-5, I love it.
I have bought G power phones, very pleased for now with the quality and much cheaper than main stream top notch ones. Good performance for my needs and never had issues with the 3 phones. I also have a modem which is about 8 years old and still going strong!
Been using moto Z for 2 years, it's pretty robust like a tank (I've dropped my phone from 2 meter high, and nothing happened but only small dent)
@@THEFIRE360 apple smartphone used to be good, today they're no longer worth it cause you can get better for less money, and it's objective facts
Android does what I need, so I don't spend more
Dude I'm watching this on a Motorola phone, they just need the right marketing
Marketing? Who takes care about chinese smartphone.
@@maxmaxie1328 Chinese owned, but Motorola mobility is still US based
My very first cell phone was the flip phone. A Motorola StarTAC in 1999. Had it for 3 yrs. it fell, got banged up but it never broke and it worked.
I have a Motorola phone right now and love it.
I can see Motorola coming back I just feel like it will take time and a lot of work!! 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓👍👍👍👍👍🤓🤓👍👍👍👍
