But Ive bought a Timex..... specifically black face with red second hand....with its simple clear design its the best watch out there.....i cant even hear the tick unless I put it to my ear......but even if it hear it later say at night, I'll find it a comforting relaxing sound! I already have a Marlin, and I'm also likely to buy another £250 Timex Im looking at soon.....also black face with silver case, and with a red detail! Its the almost fascist colour combo aesthetic that is unusually attractive! A bit like the most stylish army uniforms of the Gestapo! (forgive the reference!) I love the fact Timex goes under the radar! Make those of us in the know more exclusive! Ive had many watches over the years.... especially Seiko,.....but Timex simple has the best design aesthetic across its range for quality watches at affordable prices. I"ll be showing my Timex off as I swan about London Art Galleries curating shows in T-shirts this Summer, and won't feel the slightest inferior to some Russian Billionaire with a Rolex on his wrist....in fact I'll feel creatively superior..... because I know I am. Quality, practical, elegant design, understated yet sophisticated Taste is far better than garish ostentatious chunky bits of ugly bling! Fact is, Im always the most stylish person in any room, its part of my Art Life meet Life Art......and for £42! The Timex Weekender is probably the most well designed stylish watch for value/aesthetic s on the Planet! The black face choice just gives it a that bit of dark arty edge! The added bonus of the Indigo night light will also come invert handy in dark gallery after events n parties, and trust me people will ask me about my watch when I check the time with Indigo lighting! By the end of this Summer I expect half the Artists in London will be wearing a Timex! 😁🙏👍
I have two of them and I almost never notice it. Yeah, it's not nonexistent, but I don't have a problem with "it's not completely silent". I live in the city, it's rarely completely silent around here.
I bought a Timex Weekender back when they were under $25 USD. I liked it so much I bought a second. Then a third, although I ended up giving the third away as a gift. But I still have two. They're not amazing watches, and I don't wear them all the time, but I wanted a cheap watch that I could just slap on my wrist when I wanted to know the time while walking around Disney World on vacation, and quartz so it would always be right and I could take them through the airport without worrying about TSA ruining them. I have since acquired some nicer watches for the purpose, and my Weekender watches don't get worn very often, but I still like them a lot. I like Timex. It's not pretentious and never really pretended to be. I wanted "a cheap watch that I could always wear and not worry about," and it met that in every respect. I feel like I got my $25 worth out of each watch. Can I get a better watch for $50? Sure! Can I get a better $25 watch used? Sure! But for what I paid for a *new* watch, I think I got good value. Would I buy a $400 Timex? Sure! It'd just have to justify that price point like anything else. Can they? I don't know, but I'm open to them trying, and I expect their design aesthetic would certainly not be the problem. Oh and, everyone talks about how noisy the Weekender is. Yes it's noisier than any of my other watches, but it's not by any means unbearable: I can (and do) sleep with two of them in the room.
@@tmf866 Gotcha, I didn't thought there were magnets in the luggage conveyor belts, I wonder how strong are they. And because they are left spinning there for hours, it can't be good.
My first watch was a Timex Easy Reader back when I was 5 years old in 1979. It was a really small watch, mechanical with hand winding (not automatic). This watch looks very similar, (including san serif font and red seconds hand) but my original as well as being much, much smaller, did'nt have the 24 hour time marked on the dial, nor did it feature a day or date complication. And Indiglo, lol, it was'nt even invented yet! This little watch lasted until about '85 or '86 or so, when I got digital watch fever! I then got a Marty Mcfly Casio calculator watch, and later on a Databank, which was so cool back then, you could store names and phone numbers, wow!
I have a Weekender. I have other watches that are expensive. But I wear this one every day. Because it is light, compact, informative, visible at all times, fits any outfit, unpretentious and very accurate.
I get it. But I have 2 weekender Fairfield 41's and a Allied LT. I love my weekenders, and the Allied. This past 4th of july I got cought in the pouring rain after fireworks on my motorcycle. Took a lickin and kept on ticking. I just really love the simplicity and elegance of the case. Plus who can compete with that Indiglo!!?? Other watch companies should take note, and stop relying on glow in the dark paint. I'm sorry. I wont give up on my weekenders. I just buy more nato bands. Great video.
They should make their more expensive models marked "Waterbury." Yeah, they do trot out that name on some models, but the "Timex" is always bigger than the "Waterbury" mark. They should just make the Timex mark only on the case back, and sell it as a "Waterbury" to try to appeal to a more upscale market.
Got my Timex TW2R85300 a few days ago. Pretty cheap as it does not have the Indiglo or any lume but I find it to be classy enough to be a dress watch or a casual outfit upgrade.
Got one those Weekenders from the 1990’s, and can’t find anything wrong with it, sometimes it didn’t pay to look too deeply into what May have been a very good watch.
After spending ages studying German fliegers that I can't really afford, I finally went for the Weekender and I'm pleased as Punch. It's like a schoolboy's watch but I've reached the age where I don't feel the need to impress anyone. My younger, more affluent brother is in a state of shock over the cost of an alligator strap for his Breitling while I'm as happy as Larry! I'm still having a crafty peek at the odd Laco, hoping for a fire sale, and that new ""affordable" tourbillon looks cool ....
My Timex Weekender just arrived today (used, all the way from Boise Idaho to Sydney Australia). I must say, I think this watch has a perfection of design that should really be more lionised. It is almost like a child's archetypal image of a "wristwatch", a combination of field watch, Art Deco homage and almost a pocket watch look. The dial is the most legible imaginable, and all proportions, fonts and colours are exactly right. It is what all these so-called minimalist designs strive for, and generally fall short.
Great video on an iconic brand. I happen to appreciate Timex and the history of the Waterbury company. Sadly, as you pointed out, the Chinese market killed profit margins for this once American made classic. I think if timex would've possibly come out with a more advanced weekender with perhaps a stainless steel case and more premium band, that could've really improved the companies standings with other companies. The design is classic and loved by many it's a shame they didn't think of adding some premium upgrades to such a timeless watch.
@@tmf866 you're absolutely right and I hope they do improve their product to be as competitive as the likes of Casio or Seiko even if it puts them in a slightly higher price range.
I´ve just bought the exact same weekender with the blue and red zulu strap and I´m loving it! I even kept the plastic base it came with to use it for my weekday watch a Casio gshock 5610. Just these 2 watches and I´m good to go anywhere.
Timex know their market - they own GC Watches and Versace, although I owned one once, not known for quality, as on most watches the second hand misses the markers big time. You're right about the market, cheap and easily replaced watches - it is what it is, but they could buy out probably any other watch company alive, and despite Timex's wealth, they choose not to compete with even the likes of Citizen, too a great brand.
The timex watches are nice expendable watches. The brass is in my eyes a nice throwback to early watch case materials… I just wish they made their expedition scout series with a WR rating of at least 100m.
I, like many others, have accidentally acquired a couple of watches over the years and these include a Seiko 007, solar golden tuna, a cute little Vostok amphibia and a vintage Seiko UFO that I inherited. That being said, it’s my weekender that is most often on my wrist. In the mornings, I just grab it and go and as you said, it pretty much goes with anything! I have it on a cream nato from watch gecko and the watch has the white dial and I love it.
I have two, and one of them is a white dial on a cream NATO, which is how it came actually. When I was in high school I had a teacher named Richard Kidd who was a huge influence on my life. Any relation to a teacher in NJ?
I've never had an issue with water and my weekender Chrono. Lakes, oceans, showers, pools... I never worry about taking it off. It is an excellent choice for me. I have two cons though: first, the case is brass as you said and the chrome on my crown is wearing off so it's a different color, which is fine as it shows wear, but might change the aesthetic for you. Second, the hands aren't perfectly aligned with the marks, which is fine for a $50 watch. I love the nato strap though
I've got an Expedition Scout, and I can attest: Indiglo absolutely rocks! But it does suck juice, so if you're a fiddler, make sure to have a spare battery on hand, and watch a video on how to swap in the new one.
What is the difference between the Weekender and the Easyreader? My watch is an "Easyreader" so the label told me. But it looks nearly identical to the watch in this video. Whatever my watch is I love it. I fail to understand why so many people seem to have a problem with the audible "ticking". This is what watches do, hence do we get phrases such as "tic-tock"; "...what makes that guy tick?" and: "Oh no! Larry has a bunch ticker!" A ticking watch is normal and my timex is not that loud.
I have the easy reader as well.. apparently the difference is easy reader doesn't have the inner 24 hour markers and the case size is slightly different. The numbers are slightly larger on the easy reader as well. I don't notice the ticking to be loud on the easy reader.. it must just be the weekender models
I love my two weekenders (white and black). Affordable, minimalist, reliable and versatile. Some nato and zulu straps on top and there it is. Would love to own one in a gunmetal case or some other dull colour.
Yeah, brushed gunmetal sounds like a nice idea. I also have a black one and a white one, and indeed I bought them because they're neutral and will go with everything. I have (separately) a titanium watch, which is a very pleasant grey color. I don't think they can make a Weekender out of titanium, it'd be too expensive, but that color would be nice. (And maybe they could make a premium version out of titanium and it would probably be quite nice.)
Man I spent like a good 4 hours trying to decide which one of the weekenders to get from a sale. Can't wait to get my hands on it (or get it on my wrist I suppose..) apparently it was like 130€ normally and 35€ on a sale, not quite believing that one but either way it was the cheapest online price I saw in my country
I have the 40mm white dial version with black hands. I took off the seconds hand cause I couldn't stand the weird jumpy way it moved, it looks so much better now.
Ended up here after I watched the Filippo Loreti video back in Dec. Really wanted one of these Weekenders, but I wasn't keen on some of the color combos on amazon or Timex, so I ordered a customized one. White dial w/blue second hand, blue and white band, orange Indiglo, initials on the back. While I'm not sure if others would say it's worth the $ (almost $100), I'm really happy with how it looks and how it feels on my wrist. Now to get additional bands in other colors! Nice informative video!
A have those as my main ones, really loving them, and they were pretty cheap. There is only one thing that kinda weirds me out, ticking sound, it is so loud, i legit can hear them on the table next to bed at night.
I never have any cheap Timex watch in my life, but I do have a $10 Naviforce Chinese watch for space in case my daily watch need to service or broken, it is very accurate and reliable, Sometimes the cheap is not nasty as people think.
I didn’t need one whatsoever considering I have just shy of 60 watches now, but I got the cream dial on the brown leather strap a couple weeks ago. I actually really enjoy it. The leather is comfortable and I love the indiglo. It’s kind of a rugged, working man’s watch.
Some great points you made, Ben. In fact, while I still own several Timexes (cheaper models), and in fact have just about always worn some type of Timex watch, I have also been one of the people slamming a lot of their asking prices for their "retro designs." (While nice *looking,* the sum of their *cheap materials* just isn't worth it, imo.) Mainly because better made watches, with "better" reputations, and way better features (Seiko, Citizen, Bertucci, etc.) are sold at the same if not similar price points. I guess, as a "long time Timex customer," I'm insulted by that company's expectation that *pure nostalgia* will cause me to get "falling down drunk" and spend my money on their inferior products! Maybe some do, though. I dunno...
nice video, especially with the added humor parts. you could do this more often, but don't overdo it! also congrats for the sponsorship. as for timex, i have the 40mm weekender but it did not do the trick for me. that's when i turned to casio and never looked back. the weekender seems so conservative, shape, design etc. almost like a grandpa watch. i like the timex heritage but they should up their game a bit. some of their watches are just plain cheap with questionable quality, still, they have good ideas (explorer series or intelligent quartz etc). too bad they're the only ones who offer this type of backlight. best out there, no contest.
I really enjoy my weekender in the orange band. It’s a watch that if I’m going to be doing something rugged outside I’ll put it on and not worry about banging it up.
My favourite watch. (I own much more expensive timepieces) The tick is the best bit for me....sends me to sleep. Lol . Indiglo bright enough to navigate in the dark. Fantastic watch.
Still use my weekender... Its been tickinh strong for 5 years until last month when the battery died, which I myself fixed with a new cr2016 coin cell. The plating has almost given up but case is still solid.
I wore a weekender for years. It didn't take a kicking keep on ticking though. I'm on my third. I did wear it as a field watch while I was a Marine on olive drab, so it did get beat up. I honestly can't stand wearing it anymore because of the ticking.
Timex was never a budget brand for most of my life. There were a bunch of no-name brands selling watches for $4.99, then there was Casio and at the top was Timex. Brands like Citizen, Seiko, Omega and Rolex were fantasy watches for lawyers, doctors and lottery winners.
Not really, Casio’s quality is better than Timex. I own couple Rolex, PP, and AP. From my personal experience, timex watches do not last plus lower quality overall construction. Timex really needs to catch up.
The chromed brass case is one of the best features of Timex watches. The only real competition at the price is Casio and their cheap watches are chromed plastic. This will peel or wear off within a year or two. The other surprising quality Timex part is the leather straps. I own a US$35 Timex Expedition, the strap is amazingly nice supple tan leather. Still in excellent condition after 3yrs of wear ! I'd happily pay $25 for a range of these straps for my other watches !
I wonder how hard it would be for timex to make a separate brand for higher end watches. Could be something like Grand Timex like Seiko did or could be completely unrelated to the name then no worries about the cheap brand image
The Blackjack and Beekman, the latter a homage to the Southhampton was the first serous collab by Timex with an upscale lifestyle brand. Others have followed suit.

I love Timex. All the reviewers poo-
pooed the M79’s cost, but I took a leap of faith and got one anyway. It’s great and a keeper.
I like the look of the watch, but I hate the loud ticking noise so much that I almost never wear it.
I have two of them and I almost never notice it. Yeah, it's not nonexistent, but I don't have a problem with "it's not completely silent". I live in the city, it's rarely completely silent around here.
same here
I bought a Timex Weekender back when they were under $25 USD.
Why would the TSA ruin them? You mean the scanner shooting x-ray at it? Or shuffling it in the tray?
@@treehugger3615 the tray doesn't bother it. X-rays don't bother it. Magnetism from the conveyor belt will destroy it.
@@tmf866 Gotcha, I didn't thought there were magnets in the luggage conveyor belts, I wonder how strong are they. And because they are left spinning there for hours, it can't be good.
@@treehugger3615 they're electrically driven. Electric motors have magnets and generate magnetic fields.
Carry on solved the problem
Their night visibility is second to none. I'll always have a Timex around for that reason.
I have a Weekender. I have other watches that are expensive. But I wear this one every day. Because it is light, compact, informative, visible at all times, fits any outfit, unpretentious and very accurate.
The Indiglo on this glows like a torch. Got it on a parachute strap. You can pick them up on eBay for less than £15.
When you own a Timex Weekender, you are reminded every single second that you own a Timex Weekender. 😂
**TIC TAC TIC TAC TIC TAC**
Was half-awake on bed the other day and thought I heard raindrops. Looked out the window and realised it was my Timex Expedition ticking away... 😅
Buy a Timex Waterbury instead, similar look, better case, still has Indiglo, but way quieter quartz movement
Better movement how?
They should make their more expensive models marked "Waterbury." Yeah, they do trot out that name on some models, but the "Timex" is always bigger than the "Waterbury" mark. They should just make the Timex mark only on the case back, and sell it as a "Waterbury" to try to appeal to a more upscale market.
With the trend of vintage watches in full swing I think they could make some serious money doing this! I wish they would!
Not gonna lie, I never thought I would see ShoeNice in a watch review....
Great vid
My Timex Weekender just arrived today (used, all the way from Boise Idaho to Sydney Australia). I must say, I think this watch has a perfection of design that should really be more lionised. It is almost like a child's archetypal image of a "wristwatch", a combination of field watch, Art Deco homage and almost a pocket watch look. The dial is the most legible imaginable, and all proportions, fonts and colours are exactly right. It is what all these so-called minimalist designs strive for, and generally fall short.
Ben, I think you meant "famous Indiglo" not "infamous Indiglo" famous and infamous are not the same thing. ;)
They still make it, it's not too late.
@@tmf866 you're absolutely right and I hope they do improve their product to be as competitive as the likes of Casio or Seiko even if it puts them in a slightly higher price range.
Loving the memes and the skits in between.
I love my Timex Easy Reader.
Very Comparable to the weekender.
Its been on my wrist for 17 years
It's a great watch.. I was used to wearing a regular windup, but wanted Indigo.. love the easy reader.. lives up to its name
The little meme parts were funny and tasteful. Laughed.
The brass is in my eyes a nice throwback to early watch case materials…
I just wish they made their expedition scout series with a WR rating of at least 100m.
The tick is the best bit about it. 🙂 The indigo is awesome too.
@@tmf866 Believe it or not, I'm a teacher! I teach drama.
Sir when you mentioned that it was a brass case I looked on line and with the brass patina I actually think it looks nicer.
You actually see that on watches costing 4 times as much as far as the hands go. So the timex is better then a 200 dollar quartz on Indigo alone
I have one and I love it. It's one of my favorites and I wear it often.
Another great and informative video from Ben, well produced as always. Greetings from a fellow Stokie!
Weekender is one of my favorite watches, I love time only watches, I don't want multi function watches, or even date windows on mine.
I've got an Expedition Scout, and I can attest: Indiglo absolutely rocks! But it does suck juice, so if you're a fiddler, make sure to have a spare battery on hand, and watch a video on how to swap in the new one.
Dollar store sells the battery.. can't beat it!
Larry has a bunch ticker!"
A ticking watch is normal and my timex is not that loud.
That transition to the ad was so smooth and sudden it almost gave me whiplash.
They really need to make some brand divisions. Just like Seiko used 'Grand Seiko' and 'King Seiko', how about 'Presentable Timex'?
When I was a kid I always thought Timex was a Japanese brand because of Shenmue.
I have the 40mm white dial version with black hands. I took off the seconds hand cause I couldn't stand the weird jumpy way it moved, it looks so much better now.
It was the Japanese watch invasion in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but thanks.
Exactly, Ben doesn't know what he's talking about.
ACKSHUALLY
Wow I just bought a Weekender last week and it's arriving today. This video is on point.
Are you still with it? Do you still use it? What are your thoughts on this model? Thnkssss
Damn is it just me who finds ticking soothing ?! I literally sleep like a baby as soon as I hear the ticking.

@@marvin19966 Hah. True.
Me too. I have all my watches near my bed and the ticking of my Timex helps me sleep.
@@bradridgway581 Lol. Finally someone. Cheers mate.
@@christopherjackson3455 Cheers Chris.
I love my Weekender, it does exactly what I want.
i love my timex expedition, the only thing that drives me crazy is the ticking
I didn’t need one whatsoever considering I have just shy of 60 watches now, but I got the cream dial on the brown leather strap a couple weeks ago. I actually really enjoy it. The leather is comfortable and I love the indiglo. It’s kind of a rugged, working man’s watch.
Call me crazy but the Timex tick at night is quite soothing.
The Weekender is the perfect name for this watch- its genius marketing. The chrome on it is well done, too.
To me that ticking is a plus. Love it, its like ASMR for me. That NATO is perfect, best one I own. So soft and comfortable.
Some great points you made, Ben. In fact, while I still own several Timexes (cheaper models), and in fact have just about always worn some type of Timex watch, I have also been one of the people slamming a lot of their asking prices for their "retro designs."
(While nice *looking,* the sum of their *cheap materials* just isn't worth it, imo.)
Mainly because better made watches, with "better" reputations, and way better features (Seiko, Citizen, Bertucci, etc.) are sold at the same if not similar price points.
I guess, as a "long time Timex customer," I'm insulted by that company's expectation that *pure nostalgia* will cause me to get "falling down drunk" and spend my money on their inferior products!
Maybe some do, though. I dunno...
My weekender broke
I'm so sad right now😭
It was my main for sooo long
nice video, especially with the added humor parts. you could do this more often, but don't overdo it! also congrats for the sponsorship.
as for timex, i have the 40mm weekender but it did not do the trick for me. that's when i turned to casio and never looked back. the weekender seems so conservative, shape, design etc. almost like a grandpa watch. i like the timex heritage but they should up their game a bit. some of their watches are just plain cheap with questionable quality, still, they have good ideas (explorer series or intelligent quartz etc). too bad they're the only ones who offer this type of backlight. best out there, no contest.
I get a lot of compliments when wearing mine. Very simple and clean. It tells time!!
I really enjoy my weekender in the orange band. It’s a watch that if I’m going to be doing something rugged outside I’ll put it on and not worry about banging it up.
I own a Timex Waterbury classic which I bought few months ago. Nice watch. Really love it 🤩
My favourite watch.
I'd happily pay $25 for a range of these straps for my other watches !
my wife and I love our weekender. Versatile and a good daily beater.
I wonder how hard it would be for timex to make a separate brand for higher end watches. Could be something like Grand Timex like Seiko did or could be completely unrelated to the name then no worries about the cheap brand image
I think they did Rolex
Timex SHOULD start using better quartz movements and synthetic Sapphire. If they did it, they'd smash every fashion brand.
I really like what they have done with the Todd Snyder Timex watches. Spot on with your take on the brand
The Blackjack and Beekman, the latter a homage to the Southhampton was the first serous collab by Timex with an upscale lifestyle brand. Others have followed suit.
My favourite daily beater. I have 2 Timex watches, running as swiftly as they were when I was a kid.
Just ordered an Anaheim ducks one. Second weekender first was a chrono. Something about a legible simple watch with that indiglo.
It's my favorite watch that I own. I wear it everyday! Mine has an olive green band though.
