    My Splay Freestyle started to separate where the canvas meets the sole. I live in the Tropics in Australia, though, where the weather is extremely hot and humid and I think this was a contributing factor. It also rains a bunch so they got wet. In any case, I just glued them back up and they're as good as new.

      Definitely weather related. But proving they’re self serviceable is a bit of a plus 👍🏻

    I had the same exact problem with the slip-ons. Squeezed into them and sent them back the same day. I will reorder them in a larger size. Love my freestyle leather. I definitely recommend them.

    I was excited to see they are located in Utah County! Any chance they have a store front to be able to try the shoes on before purchasing? 🤞🏻🤞🏻

    I was wearing my splay freestyles last night. While I don't like the sole for wearing long periods, the width to let hour toes spread is a total win.

      Also, i know they ain't barefoot, but i'd be curious as to ur opinions on birkenstocks ? I feel the zero drop is not what matters the most for some people, and no anchoring neither. As for me, i don't want to wear ONLY birkenstock because i need my foot to "work" and therefore i want to use at least 50% of the time a foot with no anchor support, to develop muscle. but from time to time, slip on a birk isn't an issue, as zerodrop isn't what i'm the most concerned with.
      Wouldn't wanna wear only Birk though, but as an alternative in some situation i find them nice (also for the aesthetics)
      Take care u guys

      @@AnotherproblemOn I mean I've never tried them, but those toe boxes look pretty nice, that's a big deal for a lot of people. Probably a great way to start transitioning to more minimalist shoes!

      I love the Splay Freestyle which are very adjustable because of the laces. I do not like slip ons in general due to the lack of adjustability. It may be because the middle of my foot is narrow.

    Thanks for the reviews on these! I was going to go with another pair of lems boulder boots which got discontiued and tsla(Merrill clones) for summer. But ill give these a shot instead. Its a bummer that they dont have half sizes hopefully it wont be an issue.

    I really appreciate these reviews guys. I don't been looking for something exactly like these but I have a very high arch (I recall you guys mentioned too much volume as a complaint about the jim green's and they fit me perfectly, I even went half a size up from what I previously wore lol) so I'm interested to see how the volume issue with these plays out as they get more broken in. Though maybe the velcro option is better in that case because they're adjustable.

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  4 месяца назад +1

      I think the velcro are the most comfortable, Chris really likes the lace ups. They all have pretty low volume, but, we've found they all break in well!

    4:05 While I appreciate any video that gives measurements to be able to use to compare.. You have to realize you are measuring the rubber outsole going around the outside of the shoe. That the interior space doesnt always count that area, and the Splay clearly has more going around the outside of the foot.

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  2 месяца назад

      I think measuring the outside is the closest we can get to the measure of the inside without either A) cutting open the shoe or B) relying on the company to supply the measurements. Another way you can go is measuring the insole. Maybe I’ll start doing that. I can tell you that the splay and BeLenka insoles are SIGNIFICANTLY wider than the insoles for Lems, Feelgrounds, Vivobarefoot, and Xero 🤷🏻‍♂️ so ultimately the fact that they’re the widest still stands. But I totally understand your concern with that

      Haha sorry man! It's in the works but they haven't been a huge priority for us historically so we're a little low on traction in that area. Go check out the Lems 9to5, I think it's one of the best looking minimalist dress shoes out there. I wear it to work with my uniform all the time. Another option is the leather Splay Freestyle, a little less money but not as nice looking in my opinion. You can shine the 9to5 and make it look real nice!

    I have the slip ons and they're by far the worst barefoot shoe I've ever had lol, the explores are great- **once you break them in**. I do wear my shoes with no socks, and if i wear socks they are even more tight and still uncomfortable. I have purchased 4 pairs of Splays and one pair did after one use (walking to a restaurant from a hotel) the bottoms completely fell off. Guess it wasn't glued right? But their customer service was amazing and sending a replacement pair. So they're customer service is a 10/10. I'm a huge fan of Feelgrounds and have bought 8 pairs and they've been great!
    I have gone hiking and long distance walking with the Explorers and they are a good barefoot shoe for the price, they just need time to break in.

      I was honestly pretty worried when we first got the Slip Ons, but they did break in well for me to where I have no issues with them, I will be wearing them all summer long! Glad Splay took care of you when you had a problem.

  • @ddran

    Are these actually slip on? As in can you get them on without touching them with your hands? Do they have a stiffener in the heel so they won’t fold as I slip them on? I look for slip on shoes that I can get on without grabbing them in any way. That’s what I consider a slip on. I have been on a search for zero drop slip on shoes like that to no avail.

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  4 месяца назад +1

      No, I don't think you could get these on without touching them

    • @millone3393
      @millone3393 4 месяца назад

      The Bearfoot Oso allows you to do this but, the back of heel part is designed to flatten down and stay down to wear them like slippers if you choose to leave it. Or, you use a couple of fingers to pull the back portion up to wear like a shoe. I think they are a great design.
