    Great video. Back in the 1980s Revlon made a great little repair kit with papers and a clear product that you applied it with. It was brilliant and lasted through washes, polish changes etc and was fantastic for growing out cracks really far back. I wish they would bring it back. Instead of cutting you tore it and the little fibres added to the strength.

      Wendy Bond: Look for the Nail Tek Nail Repair Kit at ULTA, Brush-On Nail Repair at Bed Bath & Beyond, & Supernail Nail Bandage Instant Nail Repair. Personally I use ASP nail glue and nail powder. I've used fiberglass and tea bags, they don't last long for me. My way there is no obvious texture difference and lasts longer.

    Using your tutorial, I was able to save 2 of my nails today. I used super glue instead of base coat as I wanted to be sure it would hold up if it worked. I was also shampooing my hair today and needed to rely on these nails to stay strong. It worked beautifully and I am very grateful!

Your nail repair idea was a blessing, especially during COVID, as I do not go to the nail salon at this very critical time. I found your video on RUclips just at the right time as well and had to repair another nail about a month later! Your nail technique worked perfectly again! The nail is now fixed and all nails are gel base and top coated ready for my next nail strip polish mani. I may even seal that in with another base and top coat of gel to give me a little extra strength wear out of the polish :)

    Great tips! I've used tea bags many times. Coffee filters and super glue when in a pinch. I prefer cheap filters. They're thinner. So, less filing to even it out. Sally Hansen also has brush on glue. Not long lasting by any means, but if you have a break far back (Ouch!!!,) it can be a life saver.

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  6 лет назад +2

      The problem with nail glue is it doesn't work well on everything and it is such a brittle product that it breaks down quickly. Gel also has a hard time adhere to nail glue. With acrylic a lot of people apply right over glue with no problems, but gel does not like glue.

    • @michelleoss-payne9641
      @michelleoss-payne9641 6 лет назад

      @@TheNailHub I guess my experience has been atypical, then. I lay the nail glue over the break, lay the tea bag on top of that, then more glue, let dry, buff, and do gel polish manicure over that. It lasts weeks. And, it takes a couple of acetone soak offs before I have to redo the repair (the glue lasts). Maybe I'm using bionic nail glue or something. 😂 I am eager to try the tea bag with gel polish next. Although, the hard gel overlay you've advised me on from my previous questions has really fixed my one nail that splits, to the point I don't even need the tea bag patch.

    Great video Liz! What an awesome tip. I have a client who has a cracking problem with her skin around her nails free edge that I’ve been trying to figure out how to stop. Maybe you have the answer. Her skin always cracks by the corners of the free edge and down her side wall. Do you have any experience as to why this is happening? I told her to keep them moisturized but I’m not sure if it’s helping or if she’s just not doing it. I have yet to find any help or answer. Poor girl. She thought it was the gel overlay causing it to crack but she took a break from gel nails and it still happens. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      She could be allergic to soap or something. My mom gets that when she uses dish soap. I would recommend she see a dermatologist and also she should keep a log of what she gets on her hands on a daily basis. People often apply all kinds of things regularly without thinking about it and it definitely sounds like dryness but could also be caused by an allergic reaction. An MD is best to help her.

It's no longer hurting, but i'm worried if I don't repair it, it'll completely crack the tiny amount that's holding it on. Would it be safe to do the IBX treatment before doing the repair? Hi, I just broke my nail as I was due for a refill. I have acrylic powder on my own nails, no extensions. My nails are very long now and my pinkie broke right across my nail bed. It was/is painful. The nail broke just above where the nail bed starts. There is still enough nail bed under it that the nail still holds on but it cracks and bleeds every time I bump it against something. I have a nail appointment where they will have to file and refill. Should I try your method or just cut it off? I am currently trying to hold it in place with a bandaid as it has not broken off completely. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    When you file in between layers of gel, won’t the filings stick to the tacky layer? I’m currently following along to your video and am not sure if I should wipe off the sticky-ness then file and then apply the gel again? Or...
    This might be an obvious answer to most so I’m sorry if it is but, my tear is almost from side to side so I want to get it right the first time to avoid a painful removal:/
    Please help! Thank you!!

      I would saturate it with isopropyl alcohol by dabbing not rubbing. I would not try to prep it more than that until it grows out more. You can also use non-acid primer for extra adhesion.

      @@TheNailHub can you use regular nail polish?

    Ive also used coffee filters but mostly been using toilet paper for years cuz it is fibrous n tears apart easily. If you pull the end instead of cutting you wont see a definite line when patching a long nail. Then you can still encapsulate with gel or acrylic.

      Karen Carlos Same here on coffee filters. Never thought of toilet paper. Good idea!

    Should we buff carefully the whole nail,before applying the small amount of base coat on the cracked area and all the steps that followed,so as to get rid of the "oily" nature of our nail plate?You didn't do that but i was quite curious!Is it possible to lift?🤔

    My husband has alopecia which makes his nails really weak and brittle so they break easily. I've been looking for a way that we can "repair" the cracks until they grow out! Thanks! Any other tips for strengthening weak nails so they don't break as easily?

      Definitely IBX. Here's a link. This is the only treatment I have found that really works.

      Yes! But I would not recommend super long ones as movement can make your nail crack more.

      Hi Carol leave everything off and go see a dermatologist to make sure your reaction is under control. Depending on the symptoms you have it could be minor or severe but it's important to have a medical professional check it out.

      @@carolpetronelli8453 I'm sure you've found your answer by now lol, but you can try looking into silk/fiberglass wraps as an alternative for strength/length or colored acrylic powder for long lasting color. I'm not sure if any of them have the same active ingredients
