Hello from Canada! I am loving your simple, clear cut explanations..learning alot! Thank You!!
Hello Theresa - you’re welcome and thank you for watching!
I love mixing colors! I mix (usually) directly on the canvas, and make beautiful one of a kind neutrals because I use many colors in my paintings. Using Titanium, Antique, and Zinc whites even makes more choices of neutrals. Have a blessed day and keep painting!🎨🖌
Amazing 🤩
Thank you
Thanks for watching "Neutral Colors Using Complements". Let me know in the comments how you like to use neutral colors and how you make them.
tnx
You’re welcome.
Hi From New Zealand really good demo David have subscribed and liked your video will have a look around at your other stuff thanks for upload Max Lines
Thank you!
Hi David, I’m a Artist from Australia (lisafrancesjudd.com.au). I have enjoyed your simple explanation of colours, values, contrasts etc. and have learnt from you so thank you for your generosity in sharing knowledge with those of us who did not go to art school. In my early Painting years I did exactly what you described, using colours from the tube most often. I have learnt a lot about colour through trial and error and am still continually learning more and developing my paintings.
Lisa Frances Judd thanks for sharing. Best wishes on your art journey!
Thanks so much David! I didnt know this, so your video was very helpful! Why is it that when you mix grey (or other colors) it looks more alive than when you take it from the tube. I still have no idea…..! Do you know why that is?
Ellen, you have the richness of multiple colors mixing together, rather than a single color (out of the tube). I usually try not to mix them too much, laving small bits of each color showing through which enhances the richness.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 Thanks David , I understand now!
Thank you. I think you neutralize by using complemantary while adding white as well not to get a shade (or black)?
You’re welcome.
Yes, adding black changes the shade. The shade achieved depends on the BLACK used.
Are you ever in Lincoln Nebraska???? I’d love to go to your workshop!!!
Judy Hyland nope, not much interest in abstract painting in Nebraska.
David M. Kessler Fine Art. Darn it! I’d go in a heartbeat!!!!
David M. Kessler Fine Art . Nebraska seems to be waaaaaaaay behind in the art interest.
Is there a final coating that can be used for textured oil painting? To preserve the painting for years to come? Or would you just let it be
I’m not an oil painter, so I can’t help you.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 I understand thank you
Thank u verry much for all this vidéo they are verry useful can u explain how we use neutel colour with high chroma color againts each other or with other neutrel color (deffirent hue)
madrid Hamma neutral colors can be used as a contrast to more vivid colors. The mor intense colors may be used to create your centers of interest, while the neutral colors may be used to create areas of rest.
David M. Kessler Fine Art thank u verry much for answer
Neutralize.. is like toning but with complementary color right
I’m not sure what the definition of toning is. Neutralize means to decrease the intensity of the color and move it more toward gray. I thought the demo would be self explanatory.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717
Toning is adding grays ..light to dark 🙈
Yes I understand ..thank you do much for your demonstrations very helpful 🌸
Sara Hannouf studio typically I refer to that as value rather than toning
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 oh ok thannnk you
Hello question!! Can one use acrylic gesso for oil paint
I assume you mean can you cover a canvas with acrylic gesso then paint over it with oil paint. Of course -you just can’t do the opposite.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 thank you yes sir that I what I meant. Another question can I use the Utrecht gesso and mix it with a color gesso (Michael Harding non absorbing primer) will the Utrecht gesso turn the color of the the MH primer?
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 I know nothing I am ignorant to painting. But I know I want a color gesso that is thick
@@raefield4583 I don’t know - you’ll have to experiment to find out.
