I bought this color wheel and it is excellent. It makes color selection simple. Having the description of the different combinations (complementary, triadic, etc) on the card is very useful. A great way to learn this and not forget it.
Thanks. I am trying some abstract paintings and I remembered you talking about using a dominant and 8:35 non-dominant color and went back to find this video
Thank you so so much, very helpful! Now i can paint without fear when planning my colour combination and colour harmony before I start to paint. This will help a lot since I am new in abstract painting in oil. God bless you! Ann
Hi David Kessler, I haven't received notification that the colour wheel has been shipped as yet I received confirmation on Aug 4th, just nothing from the shipping company to say it's on the way?? Can you let me know what's up, thanks in advance :)
WoW!!! you are a wonderful instructor!! Just signed up for all your videos...I'm a teacher myself and have picked up all kinds of info from you. I look forward to all the fabulous videos to go through..
This color wheel is the best i have ever seen. One question. What 'rules' are important when i want to use white or black in a painting together with a matching color combination? Do they substitute an accent color or can they be used more freely?
Z.Z., when using white and black separately from the color combo, keep in mind that white will be your lightest value, so it is helpful if you use it in combination with your accent color. Black will be your darkest color, so use it near your accent colors to help them pop. Good question. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching my video as I describe my "Simple Color System" Color Wheel. Leave me a comment and don't forget to like and share the video - Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. How can you choose dominant, non - dominant and accent colors in analogous and tetradic color scheme. I saw no note for that in the color wheel.
You just choose. You have to experiment to find what works best. I typically use the warmest color or colors for the accents because they come forward.
John, you’re welcome. Here is a link to purchase the digital version: www.davidmkessler.com/color-wheel/digital-version-of-simple-color-system-color-wheel
Perfect way of taching! Am greateful! But you're forgeting talking about the use of black & white in the painting! How much must be those 2 colors! Thanking you in advance!
Where I get confused is when the wheel gets to analogous. For example the analogous colors are cad orange/Indian yellow/cad yellow/sap green but; the accent color is pointing to Viridian and the non dominant is pointing to cobalt violet. So will Viridian and cobalt also be included when using those analogous colors?
@@vanessavaldez8097 analogous colors are ONLY 3-5 colors adjacent to each other on the wheel. There is NO accent color. You have to determine which of the 3-5 colors you want to be dominant. FYI, the paint color names are only placed to help beginners understand which paint colors may equate to warm or cool reds, etc. I am not suggesting those are the colors to use. Just make the colors, yellow, yellow orange, orange and red orange. Keep it simple.
Looks like a one-of-a-kind colour wheel, really helpful. Buying from overseas online, and then the postage, is prohibitive for us Aussies what with the $ conversion rate. What would postage be from the US to Australia (Queensland)? Thanks for your help, David.

Black and white are used to make values - white to tint and black to shade.
They are very good lessons l just need to go through all of them.
