The colors are definitely processed much differently on the 2 phones so I guess depends on your preference. But I think if you want those super saturated, poppin' HDR pics you can still get there with a few quick edits in Google Photos.
Google is leaning more on software then hardware. Because hardware they are using 2 year old stuff. But picking up the slack with software but even then you can see software can only take you so far. But at its price and what it can push out its an amazing product

I think maybe you were judging based on what you saw on the display while you were taking it. But watching the video now, the Pixel stomps the iPhone in detail on the FFC. 11:01 is a good example. Freeze it and look at your beard and hair and the yellow tree in the background to the right of your head.
Facial coloring I guess are a matter of taste? However for pure color rendition at around 4 minutes there are objects on shelving with quite different colors. Which phone is closest to reality?
In general the Pixel seems to have better colour depth while the IPhone is more contrasty (though blues look deeper on the iPhone) . Both appear fine. Just depends on what you want. Personally, I'll stick with my Pixel 3a and save a few hundred dollars. $600-$700 for a 'slightly' better picture (maybe) seems like little incentive to buy either.
On your particular videos, colour rendition seems better on the pixel 5. However, I have seen other comparisons where this is not so. There is the other problem that zoomed in, the Google photos will have less detail/definition than some other phones, notably Samsung's (which have worse colour balance). All in all I very much like what they have done with an ageing sensor. Furthermore expect some updates which will increase photo and video output quality. Who needs the latest and greatest when you can do that much with an old sensor. As a side note, I still think that Samsung's Galaxy S7 had better general photo output than my Note 10 Plus (other than night mode which at the time did not exist and is mostly due to the better processor rather than camera hardware/optics). I thoroughly like what Google has done. A Volkswagen for the market. Who needs any more?
That's a hard one, one is better in some pictures, the other in others. Overall I think I like the iPhone's a little bit more, possibly just because of the warmer colours. But they are both very good.
@@phandroid yeah I noticed. It makes the photos look better to people who are not so much into photography. I personally like colourful pictures, but I understand that others may prefer more natural ones.
I was afraid about that Pixel 5 front camera..., but it’s looks good for videoconference! I will pic the Google Pixel 5, just because: good cameras, good price and very best battery consumption (maybe, 2 time more than iPhone 12 Pro Max)... That’s a shame iPhone, because in other case I will get the iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12... 📌
What I m thinking that pixel 5 is half price of I phone 12, if u say which phone's photos is best I would say both phone photos are awesome. However pixel 5 is less price that i phone 12, In that price pixel provide good quality camera I would say Pixel camera is Best & I will buy this phone in next month. ❤🤟
Whatever you all said but pixel has upfront this time as it’s even with down grade processor but Camara and video are also awesome.. as somewhere pixel is ahead and somewhere Apple ahead so.. no comparison btw pixel is little bit cheaper that iPhone .. and always processor has certain years of capacity to sustain upgrades and you have buy new phone so that’s Apple technics to make money whereas android is up to few years having updates and they are not costly as Apple so even after some time you can buy new phone.. besides all android phones’ price comes down after some times but Apple never reduce the price so..
I really don't know much about smartphones in general. I have been using iPhones for about 9 years now and I am open to something different. My iPhone 7 Plus is on its last leg and I need something better. I can't really tell too much of a difference between pictures and video quality, they both look pretty good to me except that Pixel seems to capture more lifelike colors. I never liked that my iPhone made me look orange. I am wanting something with really good battery life. I know that is something that Apple is known to not be great at so I was wondering if you could tell me how these batteries hold up to one another? I will either be getting the iPhone 12 or the Pixel 5 as I am not interested in spending a thousand dollars on a phone and I have been intrigued in Google phones since the Moto X came out as I have always liked Google products and I don't really use Apple's ecosystem try as they might to get me to use iCloud lol. This is basically just a long roundabout way of asking about battery life. I watch lots of videos on my phone and I am tired of charging my phone a million times a day! What would you recommend between these two if just looking at battery life?
Oh we want it! It just really isn't going to benefit us for a long time unless we're at an airport or a stadium or a big city. But we have a big stadium in my town and because my little town of Auburn Alabama becomes the population of Atlanta Georgia during a football game, I'm going to be happy that everybody's on that wave band so the rest of the city can be on a different one. I'm hoping it'll help with that congestion.
I am so glad that we can actually debate which one might be better in videos, even if it is the iPhone that wins! Because that was being destroyed by literally every phone on the market against Pixel. I was really kind of excited to hear about the Dolby vision on the iPhone, but every reviewer out there can't post any of it because the Dolby vision doesn't translate well and you have to have very specific software. I think it's ahead of its time, is what it looks like, but maybe it will go ahead and instigate it with all of the software and app companies out there. Then on the next pixel we will have it, I hope please? In many cases I like how the pixel lightens pictures and video and the colors are more vibrant, but it's the same as it is with Samsung where it's just not always realistic. The pixel always looks realistic, but in some cases it looks dimmer. One thing I've decided from Samsung, I would always rather have realistic pictures that I can put a filter on than a picture that is skewed in color and almost impossible to correct. Especially when you want somebody to know exactly the color of something you're looking at!
I'm disappointed Google didn't up the ante more with the 5 but tbh I thought the Pixel still held a slight lead in video especially with focus and smoothness of movement. Apple is doing that thing Samsung does where it blurs detail in favor of oversaturation and it's horrible. Better camera I think on the iPhone, but better software on the Pixel
Daytime video = iphone 12 dynamic range is amazing (especially the window on the first 1 minute) Nightime video + photos details = pixel 5 Still though, as my previous comment on your other video. For girls who need instagram ready selfies iphone is reliable and have pleasant colors, but for a camera tinkerer the photo details and night vlog pixel 5 is better. So yeah, I'll pick oneplus nord 😁🤣🤣
Yeah, both are good. I don't see much of a difference. Sometimes the iPhone looks better, sometimes Pixel. It means you can't go wrong in this price range.
In daylight shots, iPhone turned out a lot better than Pixel in some scenarios. Pixel has a tendency to turn the shots a bit red which takes away the natural tone of the image. In night time outdoor shots also, iPhone was much better than Pixel. But low light indoor shots is where I preferred Pixel. And I found Pixel selfie camera consistently clicking better photos than the iPhone.
Pixel 5 should have come with the 865, in-screen fingerprint scanner and that image chip in the Pixel 4. iPhone 12 should have had a bigger battery and faster charging Both phones are really nice but with the stuff I pointed out being there they would be perfect. 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏻 😎
Thank you for your review. Every year I get new Pixel while I am always willing to also go for the iphone, where this year with the sort of well priced iphone 12, considering how close its to the pro version, I was even more likely to switch...but your review always help to stay Pixel :D -> i.ibb.co/sRvswBT/Capture.png This picture basically shows it all - on pixel your face details have been kept in tact, while on iphone 12 all your freckles are gone, wrinkles are less evident plus the skin tone is different.. say all you want, but in this department (skin tones, beatification...) not much has changed ever since iphone xs..iphone x was the last iphone where I liked how the "faces" where comin out of the photos taken with it..starting with Xs and the beautification crap it all went south..Thanks again, and good luck to you ;)
Maybe it's just me but I think P5 photos looks better than P6 in most scenario esp. in potraits. I have both phones but P6 have a better low light photos just a tiny bit from P5.
iPhone wins in both video and ultra wide, pixel wins in portrait shots. All of this is slight differences that you can barely notice... pixel is cheaper phone and has more customization so I would probably go with that. Unless shooting video is super important to you more than pictures
A lot of cameras with a lot of MP does 12MP photos (Like Samsung 108MP one,OnePlus 48 and 50MP ones,...),with them by pixel binning way you have bigger pixels so more light captured by the sensor
Without input from yourself telling the viewer which camera is producing the best colour representation, it is impossible to say which is best. Only you can see how close each camera comes to matching the exact colours in each image, so we, the viewer, cannot make an informed decision.
Pixel 5's front facing camera seems to be better than iPhone 12's in terms of video recording. As for the rear facing camera, I don't think iPhone 12 outperformed Pixel 5, although iPhone was called the video king. When it comes to photos, both are great.
Video, that was clear and anyone saying otherwise needs to rewatch your video as it was by a good margin. Photos, very even, subjective as the colour temperatures were quite different. I would be happy with either though the Pixel looked to have a better ultra-wide-angle. Thanks!
@@andredegelder7383 Yes, def better than my Pixel 4XL but it was coming from a low point. Still needs some work but now above average rather than sub-par.
Pixel has beaten the iPhone in every single aspect except dynamic range, I mean look at the light poles in night images, or whenever a picture is taken with the sun in the frame, you can see how precise iPhone captured the light source, on the other hand, Pixel's bokeh looks awesome.
Up to now I have used samsung and apple and they are great.. Looking forward to get pixel...
But they are both very good.
the iphone cranks up the exposure and saturation a lot more than google does. They honestly look like Samsung photos.
@@phandroid yeah I noticed. It makes the photos look better to people who are not so much into photography. I personally like colourful pictures, but I understand that others may prefer more natural ones.
You can always put a filter on a natural photo, but you can't go backwards when you're taking that selfie lol
@@hutchrt0596 that's true
Please do a battery drain test between these two !!
Pixel is magical with lovelier shots. Surprised!!
I believe Pixel is actually going to win the war with battery life!
Came here to watch the video. I see a timer and then boom premier starting. Guess I'm here way too early 😁
Great comparison..
Appreciate the suppor.t
Apparently the iPhone now has a scene optimizer; turning it off results in possibly more accurate pictures.
Pixel 5 improved a lot in videos' and always champion in photos
Considering the price comparison and the processing power difference the pixel holdes up really well to the new iPhone
Interesting...
@7:55 video sample....Is the Iphone 12 camera stuttering?
Or is it me?
Thanks for a wonderful comparison. The pixel did come out on top this time the only thing I wish the pixel was $100 less.
get the pixel 4a 5g its the same as the pixel 5. only difference is waterproof and wireless charging
Black Friday and after, it will be.
Import a Canadian version of you don't want the mmWave support
Oh we want it! It just really isn't going to benefit us for a long time unless we're at an airport or a stadium or a big city. But we have a big stadium in my town and because my little town of Auburn Alabama becomes the population of Atlanta Georgia during a football game, I'm going to be happy that everybody's on that wave band so the rest of the city can be on a different one. I'm hoping it'll help with that congestion.
@@hutchrt0596 gonna have to pay for the $100 more than the rest of the world if you want it then, it's basically useless outside USA
"but in some cases it looks dimmer" very easy to correct in post, same for too bright night mode pics
Both look great. Wish the Pixel had a wider ultrawide. iPhone wins there but google software is still incredible.
I remember when Apple users used to talk shit about Samsung oversaturation now look where we are. 🤣
Please deos explain which phone has good photo 🙏
3:35 and 4:49 Pixel much better colors. Really natural. Thank you
I'm disappointed Google didn't up the ante more with the 5 but tbh I thought the Pixel still held a slight lead in video especially with focus and smoothness of movement. Apple is doing that thing Samsung does where it blurs detail in favor of oversaturation and it's horrible. Better camera I think on the iPhone, but better software on the Pixel
Iphone is stunning! Pixel is almost blurry in some shots
Fun Fact Pixel 5 Font facing Camera is more stable during video than Iphone 12.
Once again, thank youuuuuuuu 👍👍👍👍
You're welcome. Which device would you pick? The iPhone 12 or the pixel 5 for capturing photos and videos?
Daytime video = iphone 12 dynamic range is amazing (especially the window on the first 1 minute)
Nightime video + photos details = pixel 5
Still though, as my previous comment on your other video.
For girls who need instagram ready selfies iphone is reliable and have pleasant colors, but for a camera tinkerer the photo details and night vlog pixel 5 is better.
So yeah, I'll pick oneplus nord 😁🤣🤣
Please iPhone 12pro max vs PIXEL 5 VS HUAWEI P40PRO VS MATE 40PRO
Too close to call really. Very even test. Two good options for that 700-800 price range
Pixel 5 should have come with the 865, in-screen fingerprint scanner and that image chip in the Pixel 4.
iPhone 12 should have had a bigger battery and faster charging
Both phones are really nice but with the stuff I pointed out being there they would be perfect.
💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏻 😎
Are you for real?
nah
The Pixel 5 has slower charging than the iphone 12. 18w vs 20w
@@itsjustashow You are correct I forgot Google is still at 18 Watts.
Which photos looks more true to life what you saw with you eyes?
Pixel 5 definitely. They are hard to find when I go to those computer exchange shops .
Pixel lineup has been making it very difficult for me to switch back to an iPhone since 2016.
iPhone wins in both video and ultra wide, pixel wins in portrait shots. All of this is slight differences that you can barely notice... pixel is cheaper phone and has more customization so I would probably go with that. Unless shooting video is super important to you more than pictures
why you recording me :D
I would rather save me some money and get me the Pixel 5, awesome pictures coming out of the Pixel.
Both cost more or less the same
Why do companies use different MP cameras? I see Samsung and oneplus using higher numbers. Is there an advantage to that?
A lot of cameras with a lot of MP does 12MP photos (Like Samsung 108MP one,OnePlus 48 and 50MP ones,...),with them by pixel binning way you have bigger pixels so more light captured by the sensor
whatever apple releases... people will say it sucks here. it's phandroid.
Pixel camera is slightly better.. Also this is a great deal❤️
Without input from yourself telling the viewer which camera is producing the best colour representation, it is impossible to say which is best. Only you can see how close each camera comes to matching the exact colours in each image, so we, the viewer, cannot make an informed decision.
I am an iPhone user and have to say Picel seems to have better definition in most but not all situations.
Pixel🤩
You're the best ❤️
Pixel 5's front facing camera seems to be better than iPhone 12's in terms of video recording. As for the rear facing camera, I don't think iPhone 12 outperformed Pixel 5, although iPhone was called the video king. When it comes to photos, both are great.
Video, that was clear and anyone saying otherwise needs to rewatch your video as it was by a good margin.
Photos, very even, subjective as the colour temperatures were quite different. I would be happy with either though the Pixel looked to have a better ultra-wide-angle.
Thanks!
But I like how the video on pixel improved alot
Thanks for weighing in.
@@andredegelder7383 Yes, def better than my Pixel 4XL but it was coming from a low point. Still needs some work but now above average rather than sub-par.
Light balance is also better in Pixel 5.
Pixel = Photo
iPhone = Video
As usual. Hopefully Google comes back with a proper flagship in 2021. Triple cameras, SD 875, new main camera sensor
Pixel has beaten the iPhone in every single aspect except dynamic range, I mean look at the light poles in night images, or whenever a picture is taken with the sun in the frame, you can see how precise iPhone captured the light source, on the other hand, Pixel's bokeh looks awesome. I have a pixel 3A by the way.
