I think people tend to undermine how impressive Apple is on pro and hobbyist photography. In general, tech reviewers tend to focus on the technology behind computational photography, rather than real life results. I love how Tyler reviews the iPhones as a photographer’s POV to share an in depth look and it’s a great reference for people who uses iPhones as their main shooter, like myself. Definitely looking to upgrade to Pro Max (although not a big phone user myself) as it looks to promise the best results. Can’t wait to see what Tyler thinks of the Pro Max next month!
Very educational! I'm looking at this with iPhone 13 just coming out. I used to be an iPhone user; I switched to a Samsung S9 a few years ago. Now I'm ready to upgrade; the only reason being to get a better camera. Your video helps me to understand what the various lens dimensions and other phone camera features do. All the better because you are based in Calgary (from someone who used to live there).
Incredible, invaluable content. Your unique take on a phone review as a photographer answered all my questions. Also love how you compare to so many gens because the average person is not upgrading all the time! Subscribed!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Tessoro Desoto he said, it doesn’t really matter if they’re good (or advantages they have) and it’s a big difference. iPhone is both solid, and popular - thus is a standard in photo industry. And I totally agree. You see, phones like Samsung tend to use heavy processing to achieve good looking photo. Which is nice if you want that look. Pros prefere to do those adjustments and color corrections themselves, so they can make most of iPhone photos, and not, say, pixel photos (it is such heavy edit it’s basically irreversible). And apple totally recognize this and respect - thus ProRAW! A special node to pro creators. I even dare to say, if you want compare iPhone photos to android you should clic “autocorrection” for each photo you take, so iPhone can retouch it, the way android does without asking. And because android does this involuntarily it can be really annoying... like “face smoothing” on Chinese phones, or “skin whitening” on Samsung. And googles high contrast look is pleasing for the eye it’s actually opposite of what pro wants - look like footage looks out of, say, red camera before color grading... log etc.
@Tessoro Desoto I'm with you man, I looked back at his videos and saw no android reviews. Honestly, I use the Note 20 Ultra and my vids and pics come out more natural than other phones, but I miss my pixel 4 because it was the easiest point and shoot. I think the iPhone is the laziest way to shoot on a phone , because the pro mode I have takes time to set up. I understand why that is, however anyone who tries to compare, I always shut down when I show them my pics.
@Tessoro Desoto Almost every pro photographer I personally know and follow prefers iPhone photos and videos. Like what the other guy said, the iPhone photos have a more "flatter" image compared to the MAJORITY of Android photos. This gives the user more flexibility or adjustments on the photo when editing it and this is why a lot of people prefer the iPhone's images especially Photographers. Sure some of the post-processing stuff that happens to every photo on Android phones looks pleasing, but it is most appealing to the general/average user. But some of these post processing stuff can be irreversible when editing it (This is from a personal experience with Android phones). Even the majority of influencers who use their phones to take photos and videos are using iPhones for the same reason (I already explained it). Also, app compatibility and optimization. For some reason, Photo editing apps just work so much better on the iPhone and can handle iPhone photos well. I also tried this before on my Android phone and my friend's android phones and sometimes the image quality tends to degrade after editing (especially on Samsung phones/photos). "This guy is making you think iphones are the best phones PER most photographers, and even worse, trying to make you think the 12 is way better than the 11, when at the end he disclosures that he used that program to enhance the shots." -Now, he is a photographer. This video is clearly not intended for average users who just take photos and post immediately and that's it. Most professional, beginner or even hobbyist photographers edit their photos and this is one of the reasons why I subscribed to his channel instead of relying on camera reviews by tech channels because they don't really answer most of the questions on my head regarding the camera and image quality. Most of their reviews are made to fit the general public or average users. Both Android and iPhone cameras have significantly improved and we are already at the point where we choose phones based on which fits our preferences more. Pixel's photos have their charms especially with contrast, but when it comes to having a more "editable" photo, it is the iPhone.
One of the best comparison videos I've seen so far, thank you! I would like to add that the iPhone 12 is noticeably lighter than the 12 Pro so for people that care about weight, there's that.

Thanks for this review Tyler. I really can't wait for your review of the 12 Pro Max this year. I agree, it's gonna be a good jump up! 47% larger main sensor is huge! It's like going from a APS-C to Full Frame in terms of size jump. Really exciting stuff!
Hey Tyler, a huge thanx for such an amazing camera review! It’s great to see the professional side of view on all of the new iPhone camera features. However, may I point on something which I’ve noticed in pretty much all of your videos: Can you please please please add a background music to your videos?🙏🏽 Honestly, your videos are dope, but it gets a little hard to watch attentively with 100% focus till the end, especially when there’s such a plethora of info. With the different background music it will be much greater to listen to what you talk about and there will be no need to constantly pause it and have a few seconds rest. Please consider it to your upcoming videos as I find them really useful especially during the photo shoots on a daily basis. Cheers

It’s important to mention that the fstop number is in relation to a full frame 35mm sensor, basically a carry over from analog film days. F1.6 on the iPhone is not comparable to the full frame dslr lenses you showed from canon. If you really want to compare numbers ( although I understand that wasn’t the main point he was bringing up) you need to calculate the crop factor.
That’s no quite right, the aperture is actuate on phones. It’s the focal length that is an equivalent to full frame cameras. The wide lens really is f/1.6, but not actually 26mm
@@stalman You are correct about that I did a little more research on the specific terms I used. Basically the fstop will be correct because it’s measured as a ratio between the focal length and the opening size. However I still find the comparison a little confusing or even a little misleading. As an example “An f/2.2 smartphone camera actually only provides a depth of field equivalent to an f/13 or f/14 aperture on a full frame camera”. So there’s that part of the equation and also the over all light gathering ability of a small sensor vs a full frame sensor that makes it a bit of a confusing comparison. T stop would probably be a much better number to use.
I am a photographer and I want to upgrade my iPhone 6s to either the the iPhone 11 Pro or 12 but I haven’t been able to decided because of the cameras. This video is very helpful, I am getting the 12.
I love this phone so much. Its mad what you can get out of a phone now! Yes its not perfect at all but there are times when choosing a phone works better than a real camera like shooting into direct sunlight. The iPhone is ridiculous for that! I made a video comparing it to my Canon M6 Mark ii :) Thanks for the great content!
Excellent! I was so close to ordering a 12 Pro, but now I’ll certainly hold out for that larger sensor and who knows what other goodies in the Max! Thanks very much.

Honestly I do not remember the last time I subscribed so fast to a RUclips channel. Very well done, nice pace and clean content. Keep it up! P.S. Reddit brought me here
My work requires extensive use of my XSMax. And work wise I usually upgrade every two years. The upgraded camera w/ LIDAR sensor and .5 ultra wide lens as well as the 5X zoom will help save some steps and get those quality photos of work related items to get the job started. Faster CPU, better GPU architecture along with almost a 2x faster neural engine, 6GB of ram and now 5G. The XSMax still does the job great. But when I get my IP12PMax, 256 GB, Pacific Blue my XSMax is going to be just a back up for good measure.
"This guy is making you think iphones are the best phones PER most photographers, and even worse, trying to make you think the 12 is way better than the 11, when at the end he disclosures that he used that program to enhance the shots."
-Now, he is a photographer.

Just love your videos , cause your reviews are simple and exact ! 👏🏼❤️
Absolutely cannot wait for this King to get his hands on a 12 Pro Max 👏🏽
"There is no dynamic range outside." hahah
OUTSIDE, XD
Great video. Your videos are always so beautifully lit and shot. Best iPhone 12 camera review I’ve seen.
This was super helpful! I loved seeing all the side by side comparisons of the photos taken from different iphones
Great review! Happy to find this channel, it made it a lot easier to see the differences with scenery I am familiar with. Gotta love Calgary's early winters, eh? Anyway thanks this helped a bunch in my decision.
One of the best reviews that I've stumbled upon.
Thanks for this review Tyler. I really can't wait for your review of the 12 Pro Max this year. I agree, it's gonna be a good jump up! 47% larger main sensor is huge! It's like going from a APS-C to Full Frame in terms of size jump. Really exciting stuff!
As usual aptly made video and perfect insight on the cameras.
I couldn’t wait for your Pro Max review. I’ll head to your podcast after watching your vid I’ve been a big since you just started on YT 🙏 thank you!
You did a better job of showing the upgrades of the camera than apple! Especially in the medium indoor light scenes
In depth ! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for this video.
Hey Tyler, a huge thanx for such an amazing camera review! It’s great to see the professional side of view on all of the new iPhone camera features. However, may I point on something which I’ve noticed in pretty much all of your videos:
Can you please please please add a background music to your videos?🙏🏽 Honestly, your videos are dope, but it gets a little hard to watch attentively with 100% focus till the end, especially when there’s such a plethora of info. With the different background music it will be much greater to listen to what you talk about and there will be no need to constantly pause it and have a few seconds rest.
Please consider it to your upcoming videos as I find them really useful especially during the photo shoots on a daily basis.
Cheers
I had to pause at min 5 just to comment that I’m disgustedly amazed and in awe of your video quality review. You def. got my sub. 👍🏼
The camera is just splendid!
Was waiting for 2 weeks for MKBHD s and Stalmans review !!
Thanks Mann !!
I love watching contents like yours , amazed by the quality of smart HDR on iPhone's and HDR+ enhanced on Pixel devices , even though I use redmi note5 with gcam 😅😅😇😇😊😊☺️☺️ !!
By the way , I have no money to buy a Pixel or iPhone 😇😅
Cool review Tyler. We’ll explained. I probably should wait for the pro max. Much appreciated 👏👏👍🏻
Bump👌🏻 great video for 12 pro buyers in 2021 🤘🏻
I am a photographer and I want to upgrade my iPhone 6s to either the the iPhone 11 Pro or 12 but I haven’t been able to decided because of the cameras. This video is very helpful, I am getting the 12.
Got the 12. I don’t regret it 😁
I love this phone so much.
Crazy quality video as always!
Cannot wait for your 12 Pro Max review🤩
Excellent! I was so close to ordering a 12 Pro, but now I’ll certainly hold out for that larger sensor and who knows what other goodies in the Max! Thanks very much.
Great video man, i always loved your podcast. Thanks for sharing 🙏🙏🙏
Hello, can you please make a playlist about mobile photography. I love your videos :)
AWESOME REVIEW, I will stop looking to other photographer's perspective review. THIS IS IT
Thank you. Super review.
Can’t wait to watch your review when you add in both the MAX and mini to the mix.

Great video thanks
i really like this channel. the information is important for us.
istg this guy does the best camera reviews for iphones
Thanks for the video, I never cease to learn something new because of great You Tuber reviews and content. Cordially, Charles
Randomly watched the video but loved it
Great video man- I’m waiting on the Pro Max as well. I’ve nearly given in a few times and ordered the Pro, but I’m staying strong!
