You may notice that when I do the cut there is a fair bit of sawdust as I go past the mid section of the board. This is where there was a bow in the board and the bade on the saw is not fully enclosed in the cut like it is during the last 3rd of the cut. Now the board is super straight!
Great stuff Dave. I have heard you should leave half a mm between the two rails when tighting up. Also if you put one connector in slightly more then the other it's easier to get the next rail on
I have had these for over a year and half now, and i agree they are the best way to go over the expense of a long track, also they are way easier to carry around! They are so good, that the straight edge you used was unnecessary to use before you even had them tightened up, as when you tighten them up is what aligns the tracks up perfectly straight, no straight edge necessary!
My point was that you were using the straight edge to line the tracks up before completely tightening the connectors up, is not necessary. After connectors are tightened up, straight edge to demonstrate straightness, sure! Love your channel and your shop, keep it coming!
Funny the timing on this one Dave, I just received my GRC-12 alignment guides today. I'm also using the Betterley Straight Line Connector to guarantee a 100% perfectly straight cut along the junction of the two joined rails. Those GRC-12 beat the pants of the stock Makita rail joining system.
Scott Kaye, for glueing 2 large boards together I think any assistance to squeeze the last drop of accuracy is a good idea but in general use, no need for the betterley.
One advice I wouldn't butt the two ends together. There's no guarantee that it's square, and if you dripped it, it could get out of square (if it ever was square). Leaving a small gap would insure the connectors do their job.
Not sure if I've mentioned it to you before but like you I don't like joins so I bought the 3m Festool track. I didn't consider the fact that they're extrusions and extrusions are rarely perfect so I found it has about a 3mm bow in the middle. IMO in the case of tracks, you're better off with multiple shorter ones and can use the joins to compensate for any flaws though the shorter nature reduces any error anyway. I've since bought these TSO joiners and another short track and they're a perfect pair.
@@dennisbinyon9023 Unfortunately I didn't use it for several months after buying it as the project got put on hold and by the time I did they didn't want to take it back and claimed it was normal anyway. I can compensate for it now that I know about it but was rather confusing at first.
hmmm didn’t have that problem the first one was there in stock and had a lovely curve which i didn’t notice till i used it, took it back replaced no problem second one checked in the shop bent again third time was good. was it a big festool supplier? mine didn’t survive slipping off the truck and getting run over a few times. Replaced it with a Makita or a Hitachi track which i ended up cutting into 2 lengths.
Hello David. Great video. I am looking to order some TSO products. On the website, they refer to Carbatec as the distributor, but Carbatec does not sell TSO products. How are you getting them in Australia? Are they shipping to Australia? Thanks - Steve
Hi Dave, Where can I buy a set of these in Australia. As we are in lockdown in Victoria it doesn’t matter which part of Australia as long as they deliver. Cheers Jim
Why must you show this stuff. I now must upgrade my connectors. Those are awesome. Ive noticed using the makita , festool, and powertec ones you can get dents in the tracks that are noticeable form the other side. Love your content.
I have these and with my makita rails it's always 1-2mm off being straight. Curious if anyone else has had this issue. I've tried connecting them many different ways and it always the same result.
Old video I know, but I have the Makita track as well and I get the same thing. Makita rails are crap. Mine wobble side to side. I think with the Festool rails these would work fine otherwise I still need a straight edge to align and even then it's not 100% straight.
Hi David, thanks for sharing! I have a simple question: What blade do you use to rip down such thick material? You seemed to go through it with ease. Love the track connectors btw! I've got the TSO rail square - absolutely brilliant bit of kit. 👍
Hello Dave, I would love to be getting the TSO products but fine the shipping astronomical at the moment maybe you should become an agent in Australia for us
Neil Slater, the cost would be a lot more for double handling. TSO have been looking at cheaper ways to transport to Australia. BUT, you can use a mail forwarding service from the States. TSO send it to an address in the US and then it is forwarded onto you here.
These look the same as Festool's FSV/2 connecting pieces 577039. Did Festool rebadge the TSO products - as I think they have done before with the Guide Rail Edge Square FS-WA/90 106849?

TSO makes great stuff! I bought one of their track squares because the similarly-priced item from another manufacturer wasn't even square.

Good timing Dave, purchased these for my Makita track and haven’t used them as yet. This video gives me all the info I need. Cheers jenny
Glad to help
Beautiful David. Always clear and concise.
Glad you enjoyed it
I have to say these are the very best rail connectors you can buy they take all the guesswork and slop out of it

Interesting point mrmajestic345. I use the straight edge to emphasis the point on how good the line up without a straight edge.

Dave ..... I have these and several other TSO products...... all are great quality and extremely functional!
Totally agree!

you will no longer need the betterley!

Looks much more sturdy than the original Festies!
They work so well.

Love the video Dave, where can I pick a pair of these up in AUS?
The importing price on most websites can be best described as extortionist!

i returned mine until i got a straight one

Dave who's red quick clamp are you using? Thx brother
Most of my clamps are Bessey.

I was about to write the same comment.

Or you can use your track saw at the separation and use the cams to bring the track in alignment
It will work to a certain point but there are a few variables that can throw the alignment out and over 2.8 metres that could equate to a 5 mm error.
Why must you show this stuff. I now must upgrade my connectors. Those are awesome. Ive noticed using the makita , festool, and powertec ones you can get dents in the tracks that are noticeable form the other side. Love your content.
You should! And thanks for the compliment.
Can two hiwin rail be aligned end to end to make it longer

Do those TSO rail connectors work as well on makita track?
Ian Moore, definately.
Bosch/maffel track way more advanced and less hassle to connect them straight, you don't need any sort straight edge.
I purchased the makita connector and think I’m going to return and get the TSO setup instead

Julian Niemeyer, no they are not. The TSO joiners are a specialised product that work as advertised. The Festool style are no where near as accurate.
The best thing about Festool is TSO, in fact I find it galling that Festool makes the crappy joiners in the first place. why bother?
Dave , lost your email address, fans??, anyhow where to purchase TSO products in Australia? or are these all via the net and sent to Australia.

Lot of dust escapes from the cordless without vacuum
Ed Blough, not a lot really, read my comment as to why there is a fair bit of dust on some parts of the cut.
👍✖️1000
Mafell has a far superior track and single connector. Better saw as well
They look great Dave, but won't be buying them in the UK..........US ($49.95), UK(£74.28($97.73))
