I loved it when the lady singing with the Dillards sang 'There is a time' on Andy Griffith show....loved that tune so much I learnt it as a little tacker, and now I sing it to my girl grandie little tackers. They love the song...everything old is new again....it is up to we musicians who love a certain old music genre to keep it alive, whether it be bluegrass, folk, country, pop, or rock from the old days...if we don't keep it going, our kids and grandies and their grandies of the future won't know about those great songs....my grandies love the beatles thanks to my great son in law...he plays as many of the Beatles and other old albums to them. He ain't bad for a 40 old son in law who wasn't around when the Beatles finished, let alone started, so he, like me, is doing his bit, via track and me on uke, or guitar.
Josh Benton Thanks for listening. I have several Bluegrass Playlists, but I especially remember my Dillards/Fast Bluegrass if you enjoy this style. Have fun if you check it out. My best, Moppet
I think this is played extremely very well in spite of the speed. You may also like Dave Hum's second version of cripple creek here on RUclips where he has some fun with it.
It's played at Dillards' speed. They were accused of speeding up the recording when they released "Backporch Bluegrass". That's why their next album was "Live Almost", to prove that they are actually playing at that speed.
I agree. Be it beyond me to criticize Doug Dillard; as it goes without saying that what he did, he did very well. But that was not the way we like to hear Cripple Creek.
One of them "invented" clawhand banjo playing. If you watch them play, sometimes you can't even see their fingers moving; just a blur of speed. They are known to have influenced the Eagles, Elton John, and other musicians. Also got Led Zeplin to try some other instruments.
Ha, and my teacher (who was actually a classical person but tried to teach me bluegrass at my request, didn't work) said ines going to fast. Nope! They are faster, it is more fun thay way.
yes, it is fast. I am used to the slower versions. Learned to clog to Cripple Creek in NC. I like the fast version also. The Dillards are fast. If you don't want fast, I'd pass them by. You are correct in that this isn't the traditional manner in which to play the song. Thanks for stopping by, Moppet
You should listen to the version by the Stonemans, from a TV show segment, on RUclips. Flying low, especially after the slow start. The vocal version of this song might be considered a little risqué even by modern standards 😈!
This is iconic bluegrass at it's best The Dillard's are true bluegrass .none better hands down
Slow down, Doug, and savor it!
One of the cleanest banjo pickers ever.

Maggie Peterson sang it with them. It was lovely.
Cripple Creek, the song that most aspiring bluegrass players learned first. Great song, slow or fast, and the Dillards are great!!
This is bluegrass at its finest hands down but jugs up
Josh Benton

MyMoppet52 you don’t have to thank me at all and I’ll do that
I guess I'm kind of off topic but do anyone know a good website to watch newly released series online?
@Jermaine Ricky try FlixZone. You can find it by googling =)
@Branson Ford Yea, I have been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)
Unbelievable. These guys are just next level virtuosos.

For those who don't recognize it, this tune was the basis for Hee Haw's "Pickin' and Grinnin'" segment.
I love listening to Great songs like is and I love it
Awesome talent!!!!
Man!!! Doug is like super fast on the banjo.
Put it on 0.75 playback speed and you got yourself a good country jam

yeah its fast, but sometimes songs just need to be played at blistering speed.
Thx. :)
God bless !
This song works beautiful at both tempos
Tune. Not song. A song is sung. A tune is played.
Goht dayum talk about fire on the strings

OH I love bluegrass! My Uncle played just like this!
Very good
Just slow it down to 0.75 to have a normal type speed.
For those saying that it's being played too whatever:To each their own.
It was too fast to broadcast
You don't hear'm like these anymore
Yeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaw
Brilliant as always, but why Bb?
I bet that banjo was smoking.
Faster than Scruggs but I Ike it fast

Not true..12 years ago. Doug died in 2012.. this was around 1965..sorry
Bury my baby
I do not agree. It is up tempo so its noise.
Way to fast, Earl Scruggs version is great but another fiddlers version is the one I grew up with is Johnny Deison. He was a local Texas fiddler.

Isn't is great how every musician can play songs their own way??
And how no one gets to criticize them for it?
Nope, toooo fast.
You are way out.
Agreed
Way to fast. Listen to Earl Scruggs play this masterpiece.
I hate earl scruggs. His version is terrible. This is a masterpiece.
Only in your eyes. Earl is the best.
Everyone's untitled to their opinion. It can be wrong but your still entitled to it!
@@muddy_armadillo I disagree, loved him!
