    The way Manga Plus Creators is currently it’s not a great way to try to make money, get published, or even get an audience. The only thing I would use Manga Plus Creators is to upload chapters you plan on being free, like for a sample of your manga to gain more of an audience and make your manga more well known then publish it else where. If they start letting the author get paid per view through ads then that would be a different story, and I do think this platform has huge potential so hopefully they get better.

    In my writing group, we are so excited about having now a clear path to Japanese publishing that gives us a simple metric to be judged by, and so lets our comics be judged for their merits, good or bad, and one day improve enough to qualify.
    in a world of so much uncertainty, having clarity and a straight path is a godsent

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад +6

      It certainly gives a simple and straightforward direction to plan ahead with. It would be nice if there was more of a chance to get picked by editors - similarly how on Webtoons you can get scouted even if you've got a smaller audience, but then again this is just starting so maybe in the future it's gonna become more creator-friendly and not just a numbers game.

      Technically they already had foreign authors, for example, Boichi from Dr. Stone is not Japanese so that milestone was already hit. :) But it's gonna be interesting to see if they'll be more open to try their luck with foreigners who have the linguistic and geographical disadvantage. Other magazines already shown more flexibility at this, we'll see if Shueisha is willing to do the extra mile or just stick to their traditions.

    I'm fascinated with this. Of course, this might mean the comics that get more views will mostly be seen.
    But who knows? Maybe we'll be surprised if something genuinely well drawn and written will get published soon?

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад +5

      There's always a chance. When something is genuinely good it'll get traction when shared, so going viral will always be an option based on quality. The trick is just getting to that point. Sometimes the most amazing things fly under the radar simply because people don't even know it exists, while mediocre things get all the exposure, because numbers do magic.

    As an asian reader who is now currently living in Europe:
    There a huge gap on Japanese manga industry where, no matter how complex your story/idea is, if there's no business on it, you're not get through it.
    I've also checked some comments down below about the overall opinions and I also hve some opinions to talk about:
    -Firstly, Japan have this tendency to use "Art" as a business. You see almost in everywhere like for example Akihabara alot of anime/manga billboards and shit. They see their art as a "job". What I mean is that they use this kind of art as a way to "promote" that type of content, while here in the West, we're still on that mentality of "Art is precious nd the value of it should not be decreased". Of course I'm not talking about every western people but the majority of it still thinks like that.
    Look, how many times you get mad when some type a manga get axed on Shinen Jump even if you think that the story have some potential?
    For us we think that if they have more freedom on doing so, they had to respect the overall type of audience they currently have (I'm talking about this later) and for Shueisha, if the manga isn't selling enough then, you know the rest
    -Talking about "Audience", if you want to publich a manga with very complex storytelling, publishing it on Jump+ is a no go. They only expect fast-paced and quick storytelling, where all kind of ages can read without any brain processing.
    For example: I love Chainsaw Man because Fujimoto risked himself to use a very unique way of storytelling, ignoring some rules Shueisha had always been place, but Chainsaw Man still got some rules on it that respects Shonen Jump rules. Even storywise you can clearly see the main points and figure it out yourself.
    I'm not saying that *You should NOT* publish your own work on Japanese publishers, what I'm saying is that they *DON'T* expect you to be *just* a Mangaka but they also expect you to be a Bussines man.
    This is what I think the overall view on publishing manga is, sorry if my grammar is bad but it's not my first language so I apologize.

      Creators have been business men since centuries ago though? Even Picasso struggled to make money as a freelancer. If money doesn't matter, everyone post their work on social media for free. And that solves the problem you say. I know many manga companies of your mindset have gone bankrupt. I don't think it's Japanese publishers issue. I know Shueisha way is savage but not all other Japanese publishers are like that.

    This is an awesome Epic idea that foreigners can get in a Japanese Publisher, but I also think there should be a name for manga-style comics for Stateside publishers like Saturday AM & etc. For Japan it's Manga, Korea it's Manhwa/Webtoons, China it's Manhua, there needs to be a name coined for USA manga-style comics.

  • @TheSonic1685

    Japan doesn't gate keep anyone out, SMA is a thing, and you've got to remember there is a huge language barrier, and the Japanese usually produce high-quality manga that is different from western manga which is usually pretty trash in comparison, and you've got to compete with that. It's just a buisness like anything else, you've got to make sure your producing a manga that is actually outside the box and of decent quality plus in the Japanese language in order to get noticed.
    I'm producing my own personally one that's not bound by genre conventions or a rigid story, and trust me, my Japanese friends simply cannot wait for me to finish it, to an alarming degree, they're perfectly open to foreigners. You've just got to be willing to take that first step and be different from everyone else, we don't need another bleach and we don't need another naruto like the garbage produced on satam.
    And you just can't expect to rock up to Japan with your steven universe clone, graphic novel published in English and read from left to right and expect an editor to actually even look at your work let alone take you seriously.

So I think this sort of thing is nice if you were posting to the platform already or really do want to one day get published it Japan because it's cool and post expecting not to win. But don't do it because you feel like your work is not manga unless you do...
    As just like RWBY/Avatar is anime your work if made in the manga style is a manga.

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад +3

      There's always gonna be naysayers who'll want to gatekeep anime and manga as a purely japanese thing only, and just start arguements on labels. I think we're seeing less and less of these mindset these days, and in the end all that matters is the quality of content and not the label attached to it. Just like how pizza is pizza no matter who makes it and where, and not something only Italians can make in Italy.

      True, but also the Japanese market is still a very tempting target for many because of it's size and professionalism. Other countries like France or Italy are doing better than the US market when it comes to manga, so there's clearly a way to make it happen anywhere if there's a good model, finances and audience for it, though it's not a simple thing.
