We have to say great video James, we are glad that you have seen the performance of Stabiliser genetics first hand. I know that it always a big move to change cattle breeds, and one that you shouldn't take lightly.
As always keep up the good work on the channel.
Glad we made the move and very excited for the future. 👍
Thanks for the video, i was one who asked for this video, and i appreciate seeing this video, very intersting. Enjoy the new drone.
Thank Grame! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll keep the update videos coming. 👍
Great video nice to see your dad he has a lot of knowledge
He sure does, been in the game a long time 👍
Very informative video chaps our neighbors bought a few stabilizers and is well pleased too👍
Great to hear Paul, they have been a real eye opener for us.
thanks for that video James just what I wanted to see. have been thinking about trying them myself a friend of mine breeds them down at Kendal that's what started the interest.
Would really recommend them Ray, they are getting more impressive as they go on. They make me excited for the future.
It's impressive to hear they have such a kill out at 24 Mt's
Nice One James Informative video Thanks again
Glad you enjoyed it Darran! 👍
Great video James 👌
Thanks Gary 👍
Nice looking cattle. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that the stabilizers did better on poorer quality of feed than the blue mixes?
Yeh 100% Patrick. The native genetics in the breeding really show when they are on poorer grass!
Great video lads. You might want to separate bulls from heifers a bit earlier or you could have problems . Have been keeping stabiliser s for a few years now and find them very easy to deal with all round. Bull weanlings are very food efficient to get to factory weights
Good idea Jimmy. Thinking of grouping them separately at turnout this year if things allow. 👍
I've seen them as one month old calves looked very small never had the brèed wonder about their carcass at factory
Yeh, that’s kinda the point. Small calves that come out easily. Average birth weight is 37kg. About 35kg for heifer calves. High growth rates mean that you wean calves that weigh around 300kg at 200 days and bulls can be finished at 14 months, weighing 620-650kg killing out as R4L.
Steers and heifers can be easily finished on grass at 20 - 22 months too.
Had plenty kill out as U-3 but they are mainly aimed at hitting the R3 and R4L range.
I reckon you have another camera ,GOpro ? or is it the drone ? Have you ever used creep ? we would like to ,particularly the bulls but need to be careful not to be feeding badgers instead.
Not used creep for year however I’m interested in creeping bull calves too. Something I might dabble with this year but trying to make it work with rotational grazing might be difficult.
Oh and yes, it was a drone. 👍
Stabilisers were one breed I never tried but probably should have after seeing the video!
Is there is any difference in stocking rates between them and your Blue X?
Mark, we aren’t currently stocking the differently but we are finding the stabiliser keep their condition better on the same amount of grass.
the stabilisers have done well for you james . hard to beat having some simmental genetics in your herd. stabilisers i think are 1\4 breed simmental.
Yeh I believe your right. The combination of the 4 breeds are really impressive to see in person.
very good looking cows!
Hi from donegal Ireland like your channel where did you get your coat from
Thanks Donald. Glad you like the channel. My coats a Ridgeline monsoon coat and you can get it from Pasture Tec online. I think there’s a li m in the description. Its been a great coat but I think I’ll give the Ridgeline Frontier jacket a go next time as it’s been developed with farmers for farmers. 👍
Thanks for your reply lad
Are stabilisers a true breed or a combination of several breeds James.
Both! They are a compound breed made up of a 4 way cross, however they have been around now for so long that they are a recognised breed on their own. 👍
What dlwg are you getting with the ch on the blues?
Are your stabiliser calves castrated or intact?
At grass your looking at 0.8 kg DLWG on the charolais and they tend to pull the cow down a lot more as they don’t do so well on grass alone.
Yeh, stabilisers are intact as are the charolais.
The drone a new investment?
You got it 👍
Hi nice work, may you offer jobs, if i want to work at your farm?
Hey, at the minute I don’t have any jobs going but should anything come up, I’ll definitely say on my videos, so keep an eye out. 👍
I bet you invested in a new camera. Much better picture.
1st ?👍
