  • I had to replace my 2007 Tahoe rear window switch. I found the past on rockauto.com for around $20.00. 3-5 days for the part to arrive and about 5 minutes to install it. Simple project for anyone.

Was able to dismantle new switch, removed plunger and rubber cap and transferred to old switch housing. Takes about a minute, works great

Just followed your instructions and everything worked out well. The task took about 8 minutes, most time spent with the tabs holding the old piece, after that smooth sailing. Thanks, much appreciated.

Just did mine today and you’re right on a small flathead and needle nose pliers is all it took. Great video!!!!

Thank you, sir. I was agonizing a little watching you. But it worked well. Will do the same with wife’s Tahoe tomorrow!

Your video help me out! Didn't even know there was a switch there. Always used keylock but since the battery is dead in it I had to open and lock it manually. Thank you!!!

Wish I would’ve watched this first. Watched a 1a auto video and they took the whole inside panel off. They made this into a 15+ minute process. This was so much easier. I just put the panel back and did this process. My hands/fingers are tiny enough that I didn’t need needle nose.

very helpful. Thank you. Want to summarize an 8 minute video and 30 seconds. Small screwdriver to depress tab and pry out first half. Needle nose pliers to rotate switch 180 degrees or less. Small screwdriver to depress the second tab. Switch pops out. Grab harness with needle-nose pliers, attach new switch. pop back in.

Very helpful video! Ordered the part, used the small screw drivers and needle nosed pliers and presto! I fixed it in under 5 minutes!

Thank you! After watching this, I ordered the part off Amazon, and it took me 5 minutes using nothing more than a small flat screwdriver. I greatly appreciate you taking the tie to post the video! I got the first tab out, carefully spun it around, and got the other tab very easily!

Thanks for the help but instead of grabbing it with the needle nose plyers I pull it more out with the old one still attached than I put a flat screwdriver to keep it from going back it , kinda between the cables and then I put the new one in and worked perfect

    Hi,
Thank you so much for this great video! This just happened to my 2013 Tahoe and I got encouraged by your video, ordered the switch on Amazon and replaced it myself.
    Thanks again God bless.

Great video but I wasn't so lucky, I had one clip off and then I thought I could just tug it through. The connector then fell to the dark side. Now I just need to take off the hatch panel, the wiper blade, wiper motor, 4 bolts to the switch cover and then I'll be golden. Luckily I have patience ... it really is an optional fix for me since the remote works just fine. So get both tabs out first you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for posting. I'd recommend putting some painters tape next to the plate to protect the paint from the pliers. Going at the tabs from the outside made all the difference too.

Great video. Degree of difficulty -- about the same as yours. Completed project and button did not release window. Figured out I repaired with the Tahoe locked up. When I unlocked the vehicle the switch worked!!

  • @thisoldbelair

If that connector were to slip inside, you would have to take the whole liftgate apart to remove that trim piece that the switch mounts into, which is the “the correct way” to do it anyway. But forget that. Too intrusive for this switch replacement. Thanks for the video, I knew it could be done somehow this way haha

When the rubber cover broke off of my rear window button, I noticed that I could still open the rear window by pushing high upwards with my smallest finger inside the remaining switch. So I just put in a large plastic screw inside and covered up the opening with electrical tape and Gorilla brand duct tape. To open the window, I just push upwards on the tape and the plastic screw pushes on the button high up inside. So far it has lasted a year and still works fine. And because it is in a hidden spot, no one can see the tape. Where I live, the switch costs $40 plus tax.

$20 part and a minute fix! Other videos suggest or illustrate screws and panels be removed, which may be the manufacturer's desired process, however this video gets the job done!!! Also utilize the instructions from Jeff Dickerson. Thanks to you both!!!

would be fine except you scratch the paint. I recommend taking out the interior panel and fish it thru the back. that was easier for me as the entire thing retracted back into the housing anyway.

I see you live up North, mine rotted out in Cleveland, OH last year. I am guessing the salt and chemicals from the winter season eats it up. Anyone in the warmer climates have this problem?

I live in Texas. I have a 2007 GMC Yukon and the liftgate rear glass release switch just recently fell out. Eight years of brutal west Texas heat dried out the plastic/rubber outer cover of the switch. Thanks to this video I am confident to replace it. Thanks a million for posting this video.

I live in San Diego and my 2010 just rotted out. So in good weather climate, it takes 8-9 years to rot. This past year I did notice the button felt more like sandpaper. Maybe using a conditioning product regularly would have kept it good longer.

Erik Clemenson ... good news is I figured it out. First, nowhere in any of the fuse panels does it tell you there’s a fuse for the back glass only. It was not until I learned just a few minutes ago actually, that my rear wiper was no longer working. Found that fuse in the driver side door fuse panel. And everything works just fine now.But thank you for your video it made changing my switch super easy

dejuante wade I can only assume it's not catching our locking into the clips properly. If it continues there's a chance something else is broke of inside. That's beyond my skill set thou. Hopefully someone else who knows more will add to your question.
