The apostles, could in fact, understand the person and mission of Christ only through the reading of the Hebrew Scriptures. And the other way too is true...time and again, the Hebrew Scriptures is pointing towards a Christ figure, who holds tke key to its proper understanding and fulfilment. This is in fact the fundamental Christian claim, that it is not the post Temple Judaism but the Church of Christ that is a true heir to the Ancient Israel, the chosen people of God
Christian faith is not some logical or theoretical question. Just as "2 x 2 is 4". We know it not because of some maths theorems or logical arguing but because when you take 2 apples and 2 more apples you get 4 apples. It's practice and you don't argue with it, it just works that way. You either use it or you lose in real life.
The same thing here. You either pray to God or you lose the fight with a totalitarian state. That's the practical task we all are about to face. And the classic passage goes like this:

Most of the "Great Terror" political prisoners (including very resolved, smart, educated and "scientific") were completely crushed while most of the Christian prisoners preserved their integrity. One may argue volumes... but that's practice and it just works.

The God of the Old Testament revealed himself to Abram first. He showed he was not a philosophical concept of the people who he showed himself to. He is different from the God of the ancient Greek philosophers and Mesopotamian priests. . It is this God, who revealed himself throught the preceding prophets who is shown in Christ. So Jesus tells us Who he is. and points out the Scriptures which tell us of Him and completes their witness. This is what I understand from what Fr John Behr is telling us. That this god is real. and takes the initiative.
The West needs Orthodoxy.
I like this guys 'vibe', if you will, but to believe as he does, you have to assume that the bible is correct, and you have to ignore that xian doctrines have no foundation in Judaism or the Tanakh, and in fact contradict jewish teachings.

@@melroycorrea7720 The christian view of the Tanakh is biased and self serving and is not supported by judaism. There is no eternal hell, no original sin, no devil, no trinity, etc etc in judaism or the Tanakh. To say there is, is to only fool oneself. For those who actually do the research, and this is basic stuff, sheol is not hell and satan is a hebrew word meaning adversary, both human and angelic and not a refernce to the invented christian devil. And this is all besides the fact that christianity is founded upon a creation myth, the events of eden, which in all likelyhood never happened, which is the end of christianity. When one peers behind the pious facarde of one indoctriation, many deep cracks begin to appear and we see that the religion we were programmed to beleive in is not what it appears to be. Peace.
PS - the writers of the NT reworked the 'prophecies' of the Tanakh to support their claim that jesus was the messiah as well as embellishing his story with supernatural elements, despite the fact that no one knows where he was from 13-30, and that only 2 of the gospel writers never met the living jesus and paul also never met the living jesus, if you are to believe his account that he met jesuss apparition while on the road to damascus.

I get what this guy is saying but it would be easier to say that God is a symbol or concept and Christ is merely manifestation of that symbol. Anyone can be like Christ in that anyone can show love to another human. Even with this definition a lot of Christians would have a problem with God being a conglomerate of attributes rather than an actual being.

Creating gods with magical powers like existing outside time and space, outside matter and energy and transcending our capacity of reasoning, logic and concepts are all just characteristics given to a god/super hero that humans create in their minds.
your brain cannot fathom all the vairables that create meteorological phenomena, you expect to understand god. here i presented you with a simple material thing that's beyond your grasp. things beyond your grasp arent human creations, they are a given. cause you are surrounded by them. also God is not alien to us. he can be understood cordially. He can be proven in the sense that He is the only one who changes humans to that degree. Meteorology is a science in which predictable models can be made, I do not hold a university degree in that field of study, but I do know that those who do are quite capable of letting me know how to plan my day based on their scientific forecasts as to rain/sun/snow/temperature...etc. So you are right about my brain not being able to "fathom all the variables that create meteorological phenomena".
That fact is a no brainer! I also cannot tell you how to put a man on the moon, build a skyscraper, or genetically engineer food. That does not mean I need to believe in ethereal genies to know that those things happen.
As to me and meteorology, I prefer the morning news when it comes to my daily weather forecast, not prayer.
Personally chosen, preferred, and interpreted religious texts, self reflecting sky wizards, and anecdotal tales used as proof for the validity of any of them means nothing to me .

to say "which god" is to presuppose that there is a class of entities called God(s) in the first place.. as the interviewer says..
if the category itself is based on unsubstantiated beliefs, simply asserting that the "relatability" of the Christ myth answers the question.. doesn't actually answer the question whatsoever.. it just means you've chosen your idea of God to be more anthropomorphic than the others..
An anthropomorphic God is the only kind humans can seriously relate to. The alternative is a variety of abstraction.

Why should it be a matter of fact? A God does not have to conform to logic, rhetoric or laboratory analysis. It might be some entirely other manner of undetectable some-thing. However if a God wanted to evidence itself, a thing people could relate to in axiological terms, another human form would be one way of doing it.

I disagree. Ontological primitives do not have to conform with the things that manifest from them. Humans might like them to conform to a recognisable taxonomy, but there's is no reason they have to. They might simply be a brute fact like the Big Bang.
We can take such primitives seriously as a philosophical possibility in a way fairies or pink unicorns do not require, as we understand the mythos from which such entities derive. God has no such backstory.
