  • Hello Fellow Fish Keepers,
    We wanted to share our experiences with a really great fish from Lake Tanganyika - Cyprichromis leptosoma. It's a wonder fish that displays really nice color and adds movement to the mid/top waters of an aquarium.

    Man you guys have become my go to channel for this hobby. I tell you what this is one addicting hobby. I have an oddball forty gallon tank with an African butterfly fish, ten neon tetras, seven neon blue gudgeons, two Bolivian Rams, a giant mystery snail, and one clown pleco. However watching this makes me kind of want to do an African themed setup.

    I've been doing 70% PWC every 5 days for the last 3 years and it's been great. It's not necessary but everything is just so much healthier now. In my planted tanks i do much less for obvious reasons but for the cichlids they just love it. The main thing is to have the new wate matching the old water as close as possible.

    Great looking tank setup. I’m almost done building a 90 gallon tank for Lake Tanganyika cichlids and I’d like to add plants. I’ve been looking for plants that can handle the harder water and higher ph. So far I’ve come up with bolbitis and jungle val. Maybe I’ll try some water sprite too.

      Good to know. I figured with a sand and crushed coral substrate I’d be limited to mostly ryzome type plants. I built a 6ftlong by 18 1/2 wide by 16 1/2 tall acrylic tank for Julidochromis and lelupi hoping that they will colonize it eventually

    I have 3 in a small tank. I think one has an egg/young in her mouth because she doesn't eat (only about one little bite per meal) and she lies hidden on the bottom often. Also her mouth is slightly bigger, but not much. Now I ordered a tank twice the size (120cm) and hope it arrives soon so I can open her mouth and see if there's a young. If there is, I'll keep them both in a small separate fry basket (or whatever they're called). Excited, love these fish.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  6 лет назад

      She could very well be holding. Holding females will sometimes seclude themselves from the other fish and won't eat. If you only have the cyps in the tank you may not need to separate her. Mine leave the fry alone and the female spits them out an a fairly large size. Good luck!

      Hey Sander let me know how it works out for you. I have 2 males and 2 females living in a 90 gal Synodontis petricola tank. It is weird my synos are about 5" and the male Cyprichromis love to put the run to the synos. I have had lots of luck breeding Synos but no luck breeding these guys. I wish I could find more. Please let me know how you make out.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  6 лет назад

      At that size if the Cypts were full grown probably. Not sure I would trust the Fronts when they get large enough to eat the cypts. The other thing to think about - cypts usually like small foods like micro pellets, crushed flake and even live baby brine. Something probably ignored by the Fronts.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics

      When she finally spits the fry they will probably be about 3/8" - 1/2" (they're big). Still, at some point the Calvus will be big enough to prey on cap babies potentially. If I had an extra tank I would separate them.

    Hello thanks for the video. Had my cyps that were babies for 6 months. I started w 11. Now maybe 5. I know all won’t survive growing up. Have multies w them and even one goby. Have petricolas that were in there before in a 72 gallon tank. I feed w new spectrum very small pellets which are the smallest size mixed w their veggie pellets which are second smallest I even drown the pellets in water for five minutes before I throw them in there. I do water changes once a week or maybe even every five days. Feed everyday once but not on Sundays. Only deaths since I’ve had them is one multi With that many fish. Cyps are the only ones that will die. Last death was today but before that maybe two months ago. What else should I look for ? Idk what else

    • @xxxweezyxxx
      @xxxweezyxxx 7 месяцев назад

      Also I would say they are still smaller than the multies adults. I believe I feed them enough bc even my petricolas who are the biggest in the tank did not lose weight

    • @xxxweezyxxx
      @xxxweezyxxx 7 месяцев назад

      I change the water w a python. Probably 25 % Match the temp as close as possible as many water changes I’ve done in the six months i don’t believe it’s anything to do w the water. Only one multi may chase them away if they do but it’s the same multi that chases the goby away that has grown well in the rocks opposite side of the shells which exist on one side of the tank

    • @xxxweezyxxx
