Thank you for putting this video up. It has been more helpful than all other videos up on YT. Id love more Nuendo atmos videos getting started, Would be great to get one that talks about the difference between bed tracks and objects.
Hey Micheal question for you? Should my tracks in my mixer routing inputs be set to 3rd ambisonics on those tracks that I brought in via ADM Authoring? When those tracks were in stereo out I wasn't getting any sound.
Great and helpful Video, I followed every step while entering the steps in Nuendo and it worked great, except for the last section of the control room and the 3rd order ambisonics which I couldn't hear any automation with and the levels dropped out on the Bed (drums) - need to explore it further.. Thankyou David
Hi Michael, great video.. One confusion though.. In mac to monitor binaural there's a setting in Dolby Atmos Renderer to change monitoring to binaural.. So in nuendo..windows how are you doing the binaural monitoring?? Thanks🙏🙏🙏
The binaural monitor setting is only available in the external renderer. On Windows you can only access that through the mastering suite. I have a video in preparation showing a workaround.
@@michaelgwagner i simply made one stereo output bus and enabled that stereo output on atmos bus send and binaural monitoring is there through the send.. Just a simple trick that my friend suggested.
Is there a particular set of headphones you'd recommend for accurate mixing/monitoring of Atmos in Nuendo? I've been experimenting (using Immerse) and some seem to have a wider/deeper sound sound field than others. Thank you for all of the great information!
The general rules for good studio headphones apply. You are right in that a good soundstage might be the most important property in this case. I would recommend going for a good open back. I use the Beyerdynamic 1990 Pro.
Thanks Michael! I'm monitoring through dearVR Monitor (with 7.1.4 input selected) inserted straight in 7.1.4 bus and that bus feeding a Stereo Bus. Not ambisonic bus involved. I that ok? I don't like the away ambidecoder plugin sounds.
Yes, that is perfectly fine. The DearVR plugins are pretty good. The main purpose of that bus is that you can move the sound field around so that you can monitor the 3d distribution of sound objects. DearVR can do that.
is that stereo export you do in this video correct? wouldn't you have to send that 7.1.4 to the stereo and enable the downmix. and then make bounce source the stereo out? i assume that was just a mistake in the video
Hello..I write this NUENDO/DOLBY question under this tutorial by chance: Audio Device (Dolby Audio Bridge) seems to be for MAC only?....I use MERGING hardware....buffer size not supported it says inside NUENDO 11 when at least trying to do a Dolby Atmos creation....so...what about the setting inside NUENDO 11 driven on a WIN 10 PC?....the bridging i meen?...between the DAW and the Dolby Atmos Renderer (btw called and used internally here - but if uesd externally - the same question arises then how to get the connection between them?)
Excellent question. I honestly do not know how to do that in Windows. The bridge is Mac only. In order to use the external renderer in Windows you need the Dolby Atmos Mastering Suite. I have not played around with that yet. I probably should. ;)
@@michaelgwagner When refering to the term ” external dolby renderer” does that meen an external second computer running that one?…or does that only meen running the dolby atmos prod suite as an second open program on the same computer as the DAW?
Can be both. The external renderer can either run as a separate application on the same machine, or it can run on a different machine connected to the same network.
@@michaelgwagner If I purchase Davinci Resolve 17 Studio that will run on a WIN10 PC (right?)….is it without question possible to marry moving pics with atmos mixed live music into a MP4-file for a USB-stick and/or a blu ray for home watch and listen…without a MAC?….on the net I often read that both NUENDO11 and Resolve 17Studio can so it all on a PC…but that seems not the case right?
Both can do this but you either need to use the internal renderer or purchase the Dolby Mastering Suite (not the Production Suite, which is Mac only). Between the two, Nuendo is the better option, unless you already have experience with DaVinci Resolve.
If that is possible it would have to be done with Max. Not sure if something like this exists yet. My feeling is that you are out of luck with Ableton.
@@michaelgwagner thanks for reply Michael. I've made one Atmos mix in Ableton with modified Surround Panner Max for Live devices for beds and stereo channels for objects. Sounds good :)
I am so grateful that I found your channel. Thank you very much for your kindness in guiding us.

Great suggestion. I will likely include that in the next Q&A video.
Fantastic, Michael! Thank you.
You’re very welcome!
This was such a great video! Couldn't find a better explanation anywhere else where they talked about Dolby Atmos Music productions within Nuendo
Thanks!

Route them to the bus that holds the Dolby Renderer which will set the output of the tracks to 7.1.4. That should work.
Absolutely
Awesome
Thanks!

Thanks a lot, that's really helpful
Insightful - I think I’ll be crossing over from Cubase Pro.

That’s an old video but if I remember correctly I did the stereo downmix in the renderer.
Danke sehr!

Why does Atmos Renderer need to live only at 7.1.4 bus?? Why it cant be on the 5.1 or other bus??
It can. It’s just that 7.1.4 is the maximum for the home theater version.
DaVinci resolve Fairlight supported it Dolby Atmos
Excellent point, thanks! I need to check out how usable that is for music production.
Hi Michael, could make a video explaining the best way to make a Dolby Atmos Mix into Ableton Live 11 ? Thanks, Cheers :)

@@gaidz_off did you modify it? Or the plug-in works “as is”?
can you do one...with 10 beds and objects...
If you means with a 10 channel bed, I did that in one of the follow up videos.
Cubase 12 pro will also support Dolby Atmos
Yes, I noticed that. It will be interesting to see how the implementations in Cubase and Nuendo will differ (if at all).
Thank you! This is very helpful! I am going to steal your line "press the dislike button twice" ;-)
Lol. Not a problem. That line is not mine though. But I forgot where I got it from.
