This just popped up and glad it did. It's a musical powerhouse of David Sanborn and Friends. His band doesn't get enough credit. Marcus "Thriller" Miller is a tour de force. Boz Scaggs, Isaac Hayes et al are like fine wine that age well. The Best!
Thoroughly enjoying the session....sat back, eyes closed, in the zone.... then suddenly an irritating noise occurred and it kinda startled me! Looked up at the screen around the 25 min mark, thought it had jumped somehow but no..... perplexed!! Had to skip forward till the music started again. Bliss!
This was actually taped in New York in December of 1997 for broadcast a few weeks later on New Year's Eve. I know this for a fact because I was living in NY at the time and was at the taping. It was a cool, very eclectic mix of musicians and musical styles, which is why it still stands out in my mind some 20+ years later.
Tanya Johnston David Sanborn is the first musician to bring me to tears back when his interpretation of The Chilites "You Are Everything" came out. I was listening to CD101.9 and they'd put that on. I mean I was ARRESTED immediately! By the time the tune was over I was crying like a baby! The music arrangement and orchestration was so spot on, and David's wailing on that sax just took me away.
What a memorable evening that was! And being front-row center was magical! (Thanks guys!) RIP Isaac Hayes, Don Alias and Lou Reed, all gone way too soon! Hard to believe how time flies! PS Thanks for posting Herkenes! :)

Gene Lake is a GREAT drummer!
When you're on stage, unless you surrender to the moment, you're not telling the truth. I look for people that tell me the truth.
David Sanborn
no autotuner, no computer telling everyone the beat. Just guys playing. A truly dying art form.
Real music is still bubblin...check out Robrt Glasper...real music will never die....
I was just thinking this when I opened the comments and saw your post. It’s like our ears take a second to adjust. Long live real music!

Great gathering! Thank you for sharing this.
Me gusta su musica, es un jazz mezclado con el rock, donde se oyen temas con ritmo de este estilo.
They need to have another session ...

打碟的那個朋友看起來好尷尬。。

I had to skip the rap crap garbage. How to ruin some otherwise great music.
No such thing as a "bad" Marcus Miller bassline...smh...
Right L C Brown. No such thing. That's why he IS Marcus MILLER!!
wonderful, but have been better without that rap crap.
the worst marcus miller's bassline at the beginning.....
Don't be so silly
