Yeah, i agree. The thumbnails often have an uncanny valley feeling to them, almost as if they've been passed through an AI filter several times, they almost look inhuman.

9:34 Are those red flowers poppies? They sure look like it. The area where it was does seem somewhat close to where some of the WW1 front lines were... If not slightly west of them.
There were definitely a few times where you were just unlucky with the 50/50s while being on par with Shimmy otherwise. Impressive stuff from both of you.
And shoutout to Slovenia from me as well (it's my home country). ✌️😊 It's a bit mindblowing to me that someone from here is a Geoguessr pro.

Am I the only one that puts on a z8-video and a minute in or so think: Oh, YT must still be on 1,25x speed from that last (insert random genre) video I watched where i sped it up, cause this is going way too fast to be real time play. And then I check, and its actually playing zigs video in normal speed, cause thats just how fast he talks and plays? 😅

Newcomer here. I am genuinely mindboggled about how good you and the pros are at this. Cant even tell my own country in the UK mode let alone world. You know instantly what country it is 9/10. Can someone help me understand how? Its incredible and you have a new subscriber in me
I'll give you a go, as an amateur. Take the first one: it's in Europe. The houses are small with tiny windows and it's a very poor country, or was one so it's ex-Communist. It's far to the east, it looks very inland, and the clouds also look like this far from the coasts. But it doesn't look like Russia or Ukraine, which have a different vibe to them, and Poland is a lot more green. The road is in good condition. I don't know the road markings, but ZigZag will. Not all the countries in Eastern Europe So it's likely in Hungary or Romania. It's flat, so it's not the mountainous parts of Romania in the middle, so it's either near the east, north, or west. I'd probably go west Romania as a hedge since I don't know which of the two countries it is.
I can do all of this without much thought in less than ten seconds, a pro-level player like ZigZag can do it in 1-2 seconds and get a better guess than me, mostly through experience and learning things that are specific to countries and their regions (eg electricity poles, trees, houses)

The sky, the hill, the weird buildings - none of them say Australia, even with the eucalyptus. Only problem is that it's way too red to be as far south as that sky feels. Difficult round!
More "Aussie" meta - because of the 'ANZAC' poppies I would have gone eastern France near NL or DE every time.

Personally I disagree that it makes for better viewing as I don't enjoy seeing people lose unfairly because of them; Orlando probably would have won the Americas tournament vs Gingey without them for instance. Fair enough if you really don't mind, but I think quite a lot of people would at the very least like them reduced in value a lot. Geoguessr is plenty fun without them!
if the "greatest of all time" can change over time then he wasn't the greatest of ALL time ("current goat" is kinda wrong isn't it?)

I'm not familiar with shimmy. I looked at their profile and they have barely any Duels played. What causes them to be so highly regarded - do they do very well in "pro" tournies?
Was there more than one guy playing on Shimmy's account? Sounded like just one dude to me.
yeah shimmy does very well in pro tournaments and holds tons of world records, would have been cool if he applied for the world cup but he didnt want to.
to the other comment, they were obviously using "they" instead of "he" because they just werent sure what pronouns shimmy uses. its a totally normal thing

Im new to Geoguessr. Why are all pros and RUclipsr playing those other World Maps, for example A Diverse World, An AI Generated World etc. What's the difference between those and the standard World Map the game offers?
Much harder, the standard world map tends to have a lot of meta stuff as well as mostly major cities. It becomes super repetitive and easy
